Edited by: Treher on 06/06/2007 17:21:33 Today it is at position #7. I found EVE through MMORPG and I'm sad to see that it is nearly off their homepage as it moves to #8. Of course, it's all because of the allegations and probably due to a massive negative spamming (although they do make it somewhat annoying to spam over and over due to the fact that you have to register a new account and make a forum post)

Its 2 issues solely..
1) The allegation of cheating by devs (and the actual proof of a different instance of cheating by boosting the biggest corp in the game by Hundreds of Billions of Isk, that required a hacker to actually discover).
2) The mega corp noted above has taken over a good chunk of Eve. When 1 group of people take over a significant amount of area.. thats lost content to people... and people do not want to lose out on content because of "territory".
---------------The Low Sec Issue------------- Gatecamps that kill all who pass with no remorse and in many cases, no possible way of retaliation, is not PVP. |

On a more positive note, there is an interesting interview with the CCP CEO at the source listed below.
Quote: Part 1: CCP's Hilmar Veigar Petursson talks EVE Online.
Established in 1997, CCP is one of Iceland's leading developers and one of the most important pioneers in the MMO field. The company's sci-fi themed PC title, EVE Online, now has more than 170,000 players - and that number is growing all the time.
GamesIndustry.biz sat down with CCP boss Hilmar Veigar Petursson at the recent Nordic Game Conference to find out about the company's latest plans for EVE. Part one of the interview is published below; part two will be on the site next week.

One thing about EvE is that I can think of no MMORPG that is more friendly to having multiple accounts. The way training works in eve coupled with the fact that you can use ingame currency to pay for your account subscriptions means that lots of people have many more accounts than they would in another MMORPG. There are people with a dozen or more accounts and even fairly average gamers like myself often have several. EvE may have 170,000 accounts, but I doubt it has anywhere near that many actual players.

The first thing all the angry people do for whatever reason is go to sites like MMORPG.com and write bad reviews, and try to lower EVE's score.
Doesn't really matter all that much anyway.

I know that CCP is trhowing atm 4.7M Ç this year to marketing EVE-online for the so called "common people". All game nerds out there know what eve is, but ccp are trying to get more supiscrpts from other Computer users. CCP will advertise on yahoo & etc.
If they are talking down to EvE at MMORPG.com, thats fine, I guess that market is saturated atm. I guess CCP will get more accounts from others who usualy don¦t play mmorpg. atleast if there 4.7m Ç campaign will get success.

eve is not a game for everyone.. take all the people who love the game a lot and let them rate it and it will score a lot better..

You don't have to play the game to rate it low. Keep that in mind when considering the value of user ratings of games.

LOL... Or could it be that there are just newer games coming along and people voteing on those put the other games above. EVE is getting old, and just like any other top list, it will eventually drop off as newer stuff pops on.
Also keep in mind that EVE is a niche game, while there may be 170k accounts there are only 30k +/- actual players and most of the casual players are being replaced farmers (not macros but ppl playing their multiple accounts by GTC)and hardcore PKers.
The average MMO players are COOP/PVE and as EVE contines to move away from that the games that offer most people what they want will get higher scores thus there is no conspearicy to move EVE off the MMORPG list. It is dropping because it it is not a game for the average player, which BTW is not a bad thing. Who really cares what EVEs rateing is? For EVE to be #1 and stay #1 it would have to be a game that would rival WOW in gameplay, do you really want that?

6 months profit off spawned BPOs. But that's not the issue here, nor should it be made into one. It's been hashed out enough and I think BoB suffered as much as the general community did in that scandal.

I agree entirely. And I thought you were referring to recent events. At any rate, things have been resolved with both cases. Time for folks to move on.

It'll bounce back. From all the talk thats going around you'd swear it was the whole of CCP who were to blame, instead of a few people.
Eve will continue to be a great games. It'll be number 1 again, if we vote for it.

There's this Mexican restaurant at which I love to sit down to a meal now and again. As I was leaving the other day I heard someone mention that they felt sick after their meal... and that it was probably the food they had been served.
As the months passed I kept seeing fewer and fewer people at the restaurant... finally they went out of business.
Clearly it was because everyone was getting food poisoning.

i wish you guys could step back and try to look at it from an outsider POV who has nothing todo with alliance bussines like most people playing eve
people like to play games or sport because there are rules and everyone is treated equal
if thats in question something needs to be done or it goes down

imo eve is not as good as it once was and deserving of a lower rating.
