Originally by: Red Gabba I do understand there is crews, all them little windows on the ravens give it away but i think crews could become more useful.
Paying wages (Like in Frontier Elite) for crews would be a good ISK sink, the Marines sounds like a good idea.
Where does the idea "ISK sink good" come from? CCP control the faucets and drains allready, an additional sink means they then have to open other faucet!
They should of called rigs "crew teams". (Rigs are still a bad idea, but they'd of quelled this crew thing at least!)
They've explained in Dev blogs that a fundamental difficulty for the EVE economy is that there is massively more ISK coming in the faucets than there are going out of the sinks. More isk sinks are most definitely a good thing, at the moment.
Isk faucets include bounties, mission rewards, all NPC trade profits, all insurance pay outs (representing basically a triple-your-money investment). The lowly sinks' top marks are skill book buying, POS fuel, the minuscule trade taxes, and people quitting the game (off the top of my head).
I'll see if I can find the dev blog I'm thinking of, although it might be a bit obscure for this time of night. --------

Originally by: Maya Rkell Nom they explained no such thing, and the key marker 0f Eve's inflation in terms of the market was under control until relatively recently - and it's been CCP's own design choices which have caused inflation, unlike other games.
Hrmmm, you could be right. I'm sure I read it somewhere though. Maybe it'll come to me tomorrow.
ISK Sinks vs Faucets is an intersting topic, really. I'd be dead interested to see exactly how they compare, in terms of quantity. I just can't see the Sinks equalling the Faucets, though- it just doesn't tally up right, mentally. --------

Originally by: ZenTex Ships do NOT need crews.
I work on a ship myself. (the seagoing type). I can start and stop all engines from the bridge, pump ballast, fuel etc. I can manouevre it from the bridge. The radar and ECDIS can plot all traffic and track them without me pushing a single button. I can set a route and the ship will follow it, autononously setting thrust, rudders and course with me doing nothing after setting it to do so. Deck cranes can be operated remotely. On many ships the engineroom is unmanned. If the authorities decided completely crewless/autonomous ships were allowed I'd have to fear for my job!
And people are telling us spacetravelling races hundreds of years in the future cant do all this?
Well yeah...but what fun would that be? --------

Heh, funnily enough, I was just reading the transcript of the Heat dev blog. Check out the bottom of page 10:
Originally by: TomB Thank you, and the biggest reason for this is just to add a little bit of ISK sink into the game. We donĘt have enough of them in eve.

Originally by: Maya Rkell Patch, I think that was sarcasm on TomB's part. Not a real reason.
You think? It didn't sound like sarcasm to me, particularly not in context. --------
