You know to be honest I was hoping the doomsday weapons were going to be something like the SDF-1's main cannon, or the Thor's Hammer from Legend of Galactic Heroes. Massive blasts that would put a hole in a fleet, rather than just be big huge smartbombs.
I had visions of fleet commanders yelling for their forces to scatter as the nice pretty sparkly light built up on the front of titans, ominiously. *sigh* Not to be, I suppose.
Could have been worse, could have blasted Lynn Minmei songs over everyone's speakers, demoralizing the ship crews of the enemy fleet. :)

Guess you never saw Macross II, the series where they actually termed it the Minmei attack. They had these little drone ships designed to project giant mile-high holograms of her singing and dancing in the middle of the engagement.
EVE needs this. :)

this thread makes me wonder. do these crews work for free? i checked my wallet, i'm not paying them and i have a lot of ships. do i have a small volunteer army blindly obedient to my every whim?

Simple. Their salary, board and life insurance is included in the price of the ship.

Oh and if they introduce crews, can it be yet another lazy numbers tack-on please!? I really want CCP to reduce the deeply complex mechanics of crews to yet another way of getting 5% from my large blasters!
No, really! Who needs specialised T2 with unique abilities when you can have T2 that is exactly the same as T1 only it has HIGHER IMAGINARY NUMBERS for its stats? Or rigs, which are like ship implants that INCREASE NUMBERS! Or heat, which when enabled simulates the complexities of managing the prodigious amounts of heat generated by a starship by INCREASING YET MORE NUMBERS!! etc
Seriously, is every EVE player but me an accountant in real life!? Does playing with numbers turn you on? Why do you put up with this?
CCP - if you introduce crews (or anything else for that matter) don't make it just another way of increasing a damn number.
EVE is not dragon-ball-z-in-space. I don't need to sit in Jita going "I am now more powerful than you all because my megathron's attack power is 9000 which is higher than your attack power making me more powerful than you all aahhh" over local to feel like I'm progressing. Sort it. --------- EVE is like a box of chocolates.

*shudder*
THAT isnt the strangest with him, have you ever seen such a crazy boy? sitting as a angel, emotional and REALLY, really looking to be deeply emotionally moved by anything, and never showing real boy behaviour, *ever*. Never doing pranks, never playing football, cricket or such with kids.
Who'd want such a crew member in his crew? A kid with no life, and acting as if belonging to an alien race almost? (he's a paragon of crazy 70's new age ideas, though).

Give us a docking mod so we have to get w/i 1km of the ship to lock the docking mod and send marines over to board the ship. ------------ This is not War... This is pest control - Dalek Sek

I've been seeing the ship crew post for ever now. Why not have slots for a certain number of crew members and u pay a montly slary to keep members in those slots. Thing is each member has a ship bonus. The better the engineer say the higher the slary and better the bonus.

I do understand there is crews, all them little windows on the ravens give it away but i think crews could become more useful.
Paying wages (Like in Frontier Elite) for crews would be a good ISK sink, the Marines sounds like a good idea.

Where does the idea "ISK sink good" come from? CCP control the faucets and drains allready, an additional sink means they then have to open other faucet!
They should of called rigs "crew teams". (Rigs are still a bad idea, but they'd of quelled this crew thing at least!)

They've explained in Dev blogs that a fundamental difficulty for the EVE economy is that there is massively more ISK coming in the faucets than there are going out of the sinks. More isk sinks are most definitely a good thing, at the moment.
Isk faucets include bounties, mission rewards, all NPC trade profits, all insurance pay outs (representing basically a triple-your-money investment). The lowly sinks' top marks are skill book buying, POS fuel, the minuscule trade taxes, and people quitting the game (off the top of my head).
I'll see if I can find the dev blog I'm thinking of, although it might be a bit obscure for this time of night. --------

Nom they explained no such thing, and the key marker 0f Eve's inflation in terms of the market was under control until relatively recently - and it's been CCP's own design choices which have caused inflation, unlike other games.

Hrmmm, you could be right. I'm sure I read it somewhere though. Maybe it'll come to me tomorrow.
ISK Sinks vs Faucets is an intersting topic, really. I'd be dead interested to see exactly how they compare, in terms of quantity. I just can't see the Sinks equalling the Faucets, though- it just doesn't tally up right, mentally. --------

Ships do NOT need crews.
I work on a ship myself. (the seagoing type). I can start and stop all engines from the bridge, pump ballast, fuel etc. I can manouevre it from the bridge. The radar and ECDIS can plot all traffic and track them without me pushing a single button. I can set a route and the ship will follow it, autononously setting thrust, rudders and course with me doing nothing after setting it to do so. Deck cranes can be operated remotely. On many ships the engineroom is unmanned. If the authorities decided completely crewless/autonomous ships were allowed I'd have to fear for my job!
And people are telling us spacetravelling races hundreds of years in the future cant do all this?
There's little a sledgehammer can't fix. If you can't fix it, you need a bigger sledgehammer.

My question is... how could you ever get a crew for a dictor?
Or how could you convince your crew to be a bait ship.
Captain: "Ok, there's a hostile thanatos on station, we're going to bait him in this harbinger here so the rest of our gang can kill him." Crew: "Isn't that a bit dangerous?" Captain: "Don't worry. I updated my clone."
Brunswick2 is too sexy for the eve-o mods |

Also, I second the idea of getting a randomly-generated (like the complaint generator) letter from a tearful spouse on how her children will grow up without a father/mother because you were too lazy to ask for a scout through EC-P8R.
And I'd like to put MacGyver in my Engineering Section.

Actually it was talked about a couple years ago. Crews would be kinda like rigs are right now. Ships would have a crew, and that crew would gain experience in whatever it was you do with the ship, and you could either trade the crew to a different ship, or when the ship was blown up, some would float in space and you could scoop them, and use them on your own crew to increase their experience.
That was the idea anyway... -----------------------------------
