hey guys... im about to start a new charr but cant make up my mind whate race ships to focus on. i like the minmatars small ship (on the paper anyway) the vagabond looks like alot of fun and the maelstrom looks like a nice Bs for fleet battles to.
i also like the amarr recone and their BS, but im not sure about it becaues of the cap problems and the fixed damage type. over all i think minmatar is the one for me but i have a problem with the Cap ships of minmatar... both the carrier and the Dread of the minmatar looks alot wors then the amarr version:(
my question is very simple... if you was to trade your old charr for a new one what race will you pick? you can pick the same as you got now

Sorry i cnt go into detail on the other ships because I was mainly looking at the recon's.lol. Alot of ppl hav been saying bad things about Amarr tho, so it cud interesting.

I tend to base my ship choices on looks alone (hence my current <3: the Dramiel).
For sub-cap ships I'd go Amarr. For capitals I'd go Minmater.

Tough question, I fly both Amarr and Minmatar, and while the cap drain of lasers is a pain its something i can live with when flying a Geddon, because mega pulse geddon rocks your socks!
An option worth considering is training both, anytime i fly a punisher or maller (and sometimes abaddon) i stick autocannons on 'em
Anyway both races have their pro's and con's so its a tough choice, vaga is very nice for solo hooliganism but so is curse and pilgrim
However after staring at the wall for 10 minutes thinking about this i would say go for minmatar, because not being able to fire your guns when someone nos's you annoys me a lot

Depends on your personall piloting skill, really. If you choose wisely, and know what you want, get amarr. They're gettinng some oomph in the next few patches, their damage is pretty ok if you know how to shoot, and their ships are damn sexy. It's pretty much starightforward: cap, gunnery, guns, drones. Then pewpew all night long, no need for ammo.
If you want to be a jack of all trades and the king of drones, get gallente. I sense a nerf bat incoming soon though...
If you want every single of your ship to serve a complete different purpose, and money isn't a problem, get minmatar.
If you have a boring personality and like blob warfare, get caldari. Their ships are designed to fullfill a few main purposes, and they do it damn well. Aside from that, they suck. ---

Well keep in mind I base my choices on looks alone. If you want combat effectiveness, switch the choices around =P
This is part of my theory...the better ships look, the crapper they perform, as a general rule. hence Caldari rule PvE, and Amarr its craptacular at everything. Generalizations of course.
Oh, and also why Achura males are fugly.

Amarr = sexy ships, groovy light shows, rock-hard armour tanks. Minmatar = Junkyard Wars ships, speed speed speed, schitzo tanking layouts.
The Minmatar have more "excellent" ships than the Amarr do, in my opinion, but to fly all the Minnie ships effectively takes ALL the skill points. Having good gunnery and missile and drone and armour and shield skills is a must. With Amarr you always know what you have to do to fit and fly your ship right.
That said, seeing the look on a friends face when you burn past him at 1500 m/s in a cruiser with no MWD is truly priceless Speed is the thing that we do best of all, so if that's what you want, you know where to get it.
And if you're willing to make the investment in skills, why not train for Minnie small ships and Amarr caps? _____________________________________

You've got that backwards. Amarr have the best capitals in the game. (Uber cap + dread doesn't need ammo + uber tank)

Go Caldari!
Fire without cap, missions are easier, and Rook, Cerberus, Drake are some nice pvp ships On the other hand Gallente are even better on PVE+PVP but their chars look dorky and ships look like they're surgically removed from a dying man for a biopsy

Edited by: madaluap on 07/06/2007 22:36:46 IF i were to pick a new race? I would pick amarr, but thats because im gallente and minmatar specced. Personally i would pick the race that seems like the biggest challenge to you.
I flew a gankageddon, but swapped to the 1 co-proc craptastic, instant capdeath blasterthron. You were dead before you could get within 5 km of a gankageddon. I did this because after a while it just gets dull to F1-F7. Caldari is a fine pick aswell, even more now they have the rokh (awesome (if not best) fleet ship).
Pick a race for its style, not for how good it is atm. Things might change slowly in eve, but if they change, they change good. _________________________________________________ Breetime

Edited by: Shardrael on 07/06/2007 22:50:16 I fly both, but I love amarr battleships, so I would say if you want to go bs or capital definetly go amarr, and if you want to go cruiser/battlecruiser go minmatarr but amarr have good ships in that range too
edit one note though, both are insanely skill intensive so dont expect to be proficient within a year, more so with amarr, they rock hard but they take so many damn sp's to get there

1. Train char #1 Gallente/Minmatar 2. Train char #2 Amarr/Caldari 3. Use coolass faction ships 4. QQ when someone pops them 5. Say '**** it' and eat a poptart

minmatar currently has more 'good' ships than amarr but amarr are due for a boost and they do have 2 great ships and a couple of good ones
I would say it is 50/50 and would not try to pick based on best race for ships but rather what you think would be cooler or more fun for you
is it laughing at damage as you tank like a beast in a big golden laser ship or flying a terrorist junk box built by hannibal and BA at 5km/s doing hit and runs
(just dont pick gallente)

minmatar need armour and shield, they need guns and missiles and drones they rely on speed more than other races
I would say minmatar is the most skill intensive race there is

Amarr and Minmatar are too very different philosophies: - Amarr: some gank and lots more tank, but if you get pinned down, you'll take it like a man, cause there's now way so can turn and get out in those fat ships with hungry cap guns. - Minmatar: gank, little tank(with an exception, the Mael) and try to run when things get ugly.
Whatever fits your style. Both have nice ships, but the Minmatars have much more than the Amarr.
Btw, minmatar have both worse capitals, while Amarr have the best dread.

if this is for a new char, don't be thinking of capital ships, it will take years to be fully effective in either a dread or carrier, tho some noobs do jump into them in under a year (these pilots suck at anything but hauling) and have zero skills for anything but those cap ships.
imo if you want minmatar go for it. When you think about a dread/carrier eve will be totally different (say 2 years time), and the mini cap ships may have been brought into line. If they havent, well, just train another BS 5 :)

Minmatar are the current FOTM and they are going to take a few hits here and there to slow them down a little. Their ships are made of duc-tape and tank as well as something made of scrap iron. Fast they may be, they don't serve well in larger engadgments and oftain end up playing their own game of 'keep the transversal high' even with other people.
Amarr on the otherhand are solid ships with a lot of armor and guns jutting out of every corner of their ships. If you like the idea of flying a gunboat and shooting at people, of being able to reach out with your long knives and touch an apponent you may find Amarr to be more to your taste.
I will say this though: Lasers, and the particular mechanics of crystals - the fact that you can switch from close range to long range ammo in a second (crystals have no reload time) is invaluable especially as you get into larger ships. From 15km range to 200km range with a simple crystal change. Projectiles accomplish a similar feat with falloff - but its not as impressive. The two wepon systems, what they are designed to do, how they function are completely different - but - I would make my choise based on which ships you plan on flying. In the end, you will find yourself using 2 or 3 ships at most and you can only ever fly one at a time. . . So add up the ships you like, the ships you find you will be flying the most and make your choise then. ----
