First you have to buy and train the anchoring skill. Then you can buy a secure cargo container and launch them into space. When the secure cargo is in space you can anchor it and protect it with a password.

I believe you also have to have corp ceo skills as a pre-req to anchoring.

There are no prerequisites for the Anchoring skill.

Hello Thanks for the answers i've bought anchoring skill, when i'll have learned it, I have a merlin frigate How does it work? What i want to do (i hope it's possible) buy a huge cargo container, bring it empty with me in space near asteroid, fill it with mineral (to avoid xx too and forths to the station) then wghen cargo full, bring it back with me to the station to refine and sold the content, then do the same again with the same (now empty) cargo it's correct or am i totally (or partially) wrong?

I've managed to bring a cargo in space and the deploying it near asteroid, filling it with minerals , but how can i bring the entire cargo with me to the space station (towing it to station) or it stay in space then it is used as a stage for mining?

You can just unanchor it and scoop it to your cargo bay. Though I find alot of times it takes more time to do that, than just making a second trip with the ores it holds.
Depending though, if you have a high anchoring skill, I think you can anchor/unanchor faster.
But then again this is just what I've noticed, as with my industrial, if I have two cans I need to drop and deploy, it's faster to make a second trip to grab the extra 1800m3 units of ore instead of spending 2 minutes unanchoring the two cans, then spending another two minutes anchoring them again.

Nope, higher anchoring skill levels does not affect the anchor speed. Might be needed later on for anchoring sentry guns and mobile refineries. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Ahh okay, haven't really read up on the skill. I grabbed it to anchor a can I was using awhile back and really haven't touched it since.

Another Q regarding containers...
How long will a secure container remain in space? does it have a preset lifespan and if so how long is that?

Secure cans when anchored do not expire. Though once unanchored I believe they have the same 2 hour life-span as the original jetison cans do.

I just started playing and had a question about these also. Hope it's cool reviving this thread :)
Can you "scoop" the standard jettison cans into your hold ? I was looking the other day and that didn't seem to be an option. But I was wondering if it's not possible, or if there's a skill I need. I don't have the anchoring skill yet btw.

Tomai, not sure if you got your question answered--the "jettison cans" cannot be scooped. Every other kind of can ... can ... er ...
Anyway, hope that helps.

Cool, thanks Kilhu :) I figured that's the way it was as the option didn't appear :)
