Hi m8 I don't have the same problem as you but i do get that error sometime when i am playing, it is not cause by eve it is not caused my my isp, it is caused by my adsl router locking up long enough for eve to loose it's conection. hope it help...

Just to add Taking the ore skill up to i think lvl 2, i may be wrong, will give you 100% minerals in most stations (excluding station take do to standing), except the 30% stations.

I don't know why they wouldn't want to do that. it'll not make people play less, just make the game tick along. I spend most of my day at a pc with out eve installed, i would love to be able to change my skills from there.
