I think it is high tme that we have an in-flight market browser, so that we can browse the market, buy and sell stuff while on those long trips across the galaxy with nothing to do.
If we can do these thing from our PDAs and in our cards in this century... it only makes sence that we should be able to do it from the high tech ships on the EVE future.
This would be such a time saver and it would give us something to do in the boredom of long distance travel.
What do you all think? |

Odd to think but im actualy dead set against this idea.
You should be paying attention when captining a ship and not be distracted with other roles ... Your a captain of a spaceship god dammint not reading the stocks on the newspaper !!
It simply doesnt fit with the ethos of the game.

If travel bore you it may be your brain telling you you shouldn't travel so much.

LOL Naturally you should not be reading while pirates are attacking you, so thats just silly.
And yes, I have enough excitement in my life where as making a 15 jumps across space bores the hell out of me sometimes.
Its all about choices.
We have plenty of other things to look at while warping, so why not give us something usefull and time efficient? |

What if there was a skill connected to it, and if it took one module slot on the shio. Maybe it would be better if you were just able to view the market
I think I've recently read a similar suggestion about the things I mentioned above, but I don't remember where (it was on this board somewhere)
meh..

Instead of having up to the date information have it refreshed everytime you dock (or you pay to have it refreshed. This means you still have to put some thought into trades but you can also browse other areas of the market as you go.
Having it constantly up to date as you travel would cause all sorts of bandwidth problems as the amount of information being constantly sent to everyone using it everytime a player in the region bought or sold something.
A snap shot would be good and have it module or maybe cargo based. Marketing agents could have facilities whereby they can give insights into market prices in other regions that may or may not be entirely accurate (no ones perfect right?).

I really like Rho's development of the initial idea.

Hey Rho: I put the idea of a market in-flight browser forward some time ago. It was specifically for Indy ships to give them a little hand in being worth something as a instellar trader.
The other idea I had was that traders could open offices (at a certain cost per month) and have access to the market information in that region. It would make the markets more liquid, and stabilize prices some what.

Region wide offices may be too large. If you make finding good trade routes so easy there little interest in trade since its almost automatic (like mining currently is).
Offices that provided system wide would be a better idea. Means that the trader must still put some thought into where to place their offices. An additional part of the offices could maybe to remotly set buy and sell orders for local items.
