I'm currently doing Enemies Abound, my drones where nicely chipping away at the stargate, but my shields are depleting and so is my cap. I warp away, refill on my heavy drones, and return to find two aditional waves present. I sent my drones away and i notice that my shields are being depleted quite rapidly, so i try to warp away, but i can't. I'm at 100%, nothing is in my way, but the dreaded thing just won't warp. Nothing is in my way (i'm not bouncing off anything).
My question is: Can i be warp scrambled in missions by npcs? How do i see if that happens? If it's not the case in my situation, what happened?

Aye theres a few scrambling ships in Enemies Abound.
Check out the website below for the mission details, it'll tell you which ships are scramblers. It's slightly out of date but the info on Enemies Abound is pretty sound I believe.

jeah (some) npc's scramble!!!
you get a mesage that you are being scrambeld, but it most likely drowns under all the usual combat messages, so check your log best!
inform your self before you do a mission and take the scramblers out first!
but hard to believe you made it up to lvl 4 missions without knowing that npc's scramble ^^

One way to recognize a scrambler/webber rat, is to look at the bounty of the rat. If the bounty is between 20k to 30k then he can possible web/scram you. --- It have always fallen to a few to sacrifice for the good of many

slightly stealing topic, but this just shows that the shiny new rev2 gui needs a "scrambled" light, or Something.
damage message spam = not knowing what bad things are about to happen, or are already happening.

Not sure how you got to level 4 missions, and particularly to the point of taking on what is generally considered to be one of the hardest level 4 missions, without discovering that NPC rats can warp scramble - just lucky, I guess ;-)
Anyway, that's beside the point.
As commented, there should be a message in the log, and possibly a brief one displayed, but both of these might be missed or difficult to find in an intense combat situation. There are various websites, again, as mentioned which will tell you whether there are scramblers in the mission, and which ships they will be.
Finally, which has not been mentioned, there is a subtle graphical effect which indicates scrambling. This is a line of intermittent faint blue blocks striking your ship from the direction of a [normally] frigate. It can be difficult to spot sometimes with explosions and lasers and such, but it is there, and if there is a chance your tank will not hold up, should sound numerous mental alarms.

Yep theres scramblers, usually frigs but Ive been scrambled by cruisers a couple times... as people said check the intel on the mission, and if possible target frigs first as there usually the culprit. ---------- -Rilder Visit my blog =) http://rilderslog.blogspot.com/ |

my prefered method of taking on that mission is come in first in a heavily tanked ship with just smartbombs fitted, pop all the frigs at the warp in point wait for second wave and repeat then warp out refit ur normal mission setup and work away as an normal mission

Lucky, maybe ;-)
I generally take out the smaller ships first, they annoy the crap out of me and tend to slow down my crap heap. So maybe i've been warp scrambled before, but blew up the ship before i actually needed to warp out. I tend to keep a relatively large gap between me and the larger fish, so they might not have been close enough to affect me.
The reason this went south was because i changed tactics, i wanted my standing raised asap and didn't care about the bounties. That went well for a couple of missions, but didn't work for this one. If kept to my usual tactics, i would probably have finished the mission intact. I didn't try again because my setup ain't cheap (costs around 200m) and replacing it once wasn't a big problem, replacing it twice was. I bookmarked the location, canceled them mission, and saved a lot of my T2 items.
Thanks for the adviceand the information btw.

If you're a heretic and play with sound on, Aura will ***** at you "You are unable to warp because you are warp scrambled."
I tend to mission with sound on for this and other audible alerts. I turn off sound for most other things.
