Right now players have to log on to eve each time they finish training a skill so that they can start another skill training. I have a suggestion that could change this. It's fairly simple, but the way i;ve explained it probably makes it seem anything but that
Ok, here goes:
Add a button at the bottom of the skills window that is called "training list". Clicking on this button will bring up a window with 10 slots in it. Right click on a slot to bring up a list of the skills that are available to train. By "available", i refer to any skill in which you already have levels (unless it is lv5) and any skills stored in your cargo hold that you have met the minimum requirements for.
You should have realised by now that this is in effect the same as the current system. Please stay with me, because this is the good bit
With a skill set in the top slot, it will start training as normal, and above the top slot a timer will start counting down until the skill is finished. Now right click on the next slot down. The skill list here will be slightly different. It will be the same as the one from the first slot, save in 2 regards. First: it will not show the one training in the first slot. Second: it will show skills that would be available to train if you already had the skill you set training in the first slot, inluding from skill packs in your cargo bay. For example: set a skill training lv3 in the first slot, and you could assign the same skill to train lv4 in the second slot. Or: put lv4 navigation in the first slot and lv4 afterburner in the second slot. Then you could put lv1 high speed maneuvering in the 3rd slot if you have it in your cargo bay.
All the other slots would act in this way, taking into account what skills you have assigned to the slots above them, and what skill packets are stored in your ships' cargo hold when they give you a list of what skill you can set them to.
Each time you add a skill to a slot, the timer changes to give the total time required to train ALL the skills that you have set into any of the slots. When the skill in the first slot has finished training, the skill in the second slot would start training automatically, and so on until there are no more assigned skills to train.
If the skill pack for a skill you set is no longer in the cargo bay when the list gets down to training that skill, the skill will be simply be removed from the training schedual and the next one will start training. A message should also appear, saying that the skill could not be trained.
Ok, crunch time: what are your toughts on this?

This is the most detailed idea I've seen about this so far. I like it

why not just have a list of all availible skills including in cargo. You then just move items up or down list to set order. Then system just has to work its way down list.
Also would be great if eve-online website gave users accsess to train new skill from website on line.

I like the idea.. but I see chip toxic's idea as better. You have a 10 slot queue.
You select which skill to train from your current skill list (unless lvl5) and what is in your cargo hold.
It trains the listed skill for one lvl. Once it completes it discards the skill and moves on. If the skill cannot be trained due to requirements, it is removed from the list and starts on the next slot. - Ka Dargo. Yes!!!!
Why log on ever?????
/Sarcasm off Sorry but the experiance system in eve is already generouse as it is. Doing this removes the most basic need for characters to log on.
Managing your skill training times is, and I kinda hope will continue to be apart of the strategy to staying ahead in eve.

I agree with Belzavior, skill training is a reason to log on...
However I would like to see a way to at least queue up one skill beyond the current one. So if you are going to be away from EVE longer than the longest skill you want to train will take, you can queue up the second longest or any skill for that matter.
This would keep everyone happy, those who don't have very much time for EVE, and those who think EVE is the real world...

Yes, I'd like to be able to queue up 1 skill (so while training one skal, you can queue another skill that gets trained afterwards)

And what would you do if you needed to train up a quantity of skills that have really SHORT training times, and you could not log on?
I decided that lining up 10 skills would be a fair number, without making it so that players can stay off eve for excessive amounts of time...
Ok, slight amendment to my suggestion: The idea stays as it is above, but with one change. The timer can not go above 14 days, any skill that would push it above that could not be assigned to a slot for training. Taking into account what was said in the last couple of replies, this restriction only applies to the 3rd slot or higher, meaning that the first two can be set regardless of how long it would take.
I chose 14 days because most people take holidays that are that long or less, so it would be convenient for them without allowing them to stay away from eve for an excessive amount of time, which seems to have been the largest problem mentioned in the replies so far.

Then you make sure to have a really long skill to train.
Plan ahead some.

The only reason i added in the exclusion of the time limit for the first 2 slots was because some people were wanting to have it set to just that, but i know for a fact that it would make little improvement, if any, for some of the other players. Sure, just set off a pair of really long skills if that is what you want to do, it's your choice. But long skills that last 14 days or more hardly even appear to a player until after they have been playing for about a month, and even then they are not exactly common.
The core of the idea is to make the skill training aspect more efficient and usable for ALL players, i never said they would have to use it if it's ever implimented (and judjing by the negative feedback so far, it looks like the chances of that are slim, and getting worse)
One flaw, IF it could be called that, is that it would effectivley stop the growing skill gap between players that can get on at any time to keep their skills ticking over and the players who don't have that kind of freedom for logging on.
I apologise for the tone of this post, but when i think i'm getting criticised i really start to lose it

I only used the holiday as an exaple to show how the idea could be used. I would not actually be setting a full 14 day training schedual every 2 weeks, but i thought it might be NICE to give people that option if the ever need it.
Again, apologies for the tone.

One change I'd quite like is that if you are training a particular skill, when you complete the training of a level, it continues on and starts to train to the next level. |

Ok so if they cant do a list what about a wat to pause a skill and start a secound so you can come back to it later. I dont think you can do this if you can please tell me how.
This would mean that if you had a skill that had 2days left but went away on holiday you could pause first start a 13 day or something big skill and when back start the skill that had 2 days left to compleate.
also good if you are training something and have just found a new skill that is more usefull at current time.

You can do that. DO NOT right click and abort training. Right click on the new skill you want to train, and click "start training" (or whatever the text is). You will be able to resume the previous skill later
