My friend and I started playing a little over a week ago. We were eager to get into pvp so tonight we hit low sec in a pair of Rifters. This is our true piracy adventure.
We started the night in Hysera, but as we were trying to get the hang of group warp and the direction scanner we were jumped by a caracal. She out-pirated us and sent us home in pods in short order.
Not deterred, we set two Rifters building and bought replacement modules. While we waited for the ships to build, we took turns hiding in the system and scanning each other down to practice our skills.
Geared up in brand new ships, we hit the gate again. Despite our scanner skills being much improved, we couldn't find anyone. In idle boredom, I changed the name of my ship. When she did her next round of scans she mis-took my new name as a hostile that jumped in us and locked, webbed, and scrammed me. Shortly, she realized her error. We decided to hop to a planet out of our scan range and look there. Unfortunately, this planet was 70km from a gate, and the sentries blew her Rifter to pieces.
Round Three: We lucked out and found a Rifter for sale in system and we were back in business. This time, we went even deeper into low sec. We found a flashy red Catalyst at the gate and took him down to hull, but he escaped to the other side. He did, however, hold us there long enough for his friend in a battlecruiser to warp in. While hiding at a planet from the battlecruiser we noticed a Rifter nearby. We quickly scanned her down and blow her to pieces. Then we created a safespot and waited out the timer. After dropping off our loot, we hit low sec again. We found and popped a Cormorant at the belt. Apparently, he knows the same guy with the battlecruiser, because we lead that guy on a chase jumping from moon to moon until we lucked onto a safespot.
Our hearts were racing and our cargohold was full. We waited out our timer, banked our loot, and hit low sec again. We didn't find anyone in the first few systems. Then we hit a system that looked like the jackpot; there were haulers all over the scanner. Unfortunately, they were all safespotted. While she searched for the haulers; I searched for a catalyst. I managed to find him, and then I uttered the famous last words: "I scanned him down, he's at that moon!" We warped in, ready to engage, and she barely had time to type, "What are all those things that say online?," before we were blasted to pieces by a player owned station.
And after that, we called it a night. All and all it was a great time. We lost 5 Rifters in total (chalk that up to learning curve) and killed a Comorant and a Rifter, but it was great fun. I'm pumped about going back out tomorrow.
Good fight to all we engaged (or ran from!), and we'll be seeing you again soon.

lol @ "jumping around from moon to moon." Hope ya got control towers turned on in your overview and scan it out before warping, otherwise you'll be building yourself some new rifters soon. --

Nice story :)
yes put control towers on overview, that way you will know wether theres a pos at a moon or not. Also in like 99% of the cases a ship at a moon will be at a POS.

that sounds like a heck of a lot of fun for some newer pilots.
Just a couple of things btw. As others have said, don't ever warp to a moon without first making sure force fields or control towers are on ur overview settings and scanning it at 5 degrees first. almost all moons in low sec tend to have a pos at them.
Also when ur friend got popped by sentries he must have accidentily warped to the gate, there are no planets that are within sentry gun range of a gate.
also not quite sure what u mean by lucked onto a safespot?
Good read

Always nice to see newer players not afraid to get their yarrr on. Not get discouraged by your losses, although it doesn't sound like you are.
Very fun read.

Yeah. Was wondering. 1 week player building ships, having a good understanding of safe spots, sentries, and all the other mechanics and lingo.
Maybe a new character, but a new player? Unlikely.

Heh, you've caught me. I've been following Eve on and off for quite some time and I've done the free trial a few times before.
As for building ships, Level 1 Industry and a Rifter blueprint saves me an hours worth of travel each time I need a new ship. The convenience was well worth digging up a guide on crafting.
