I ransomed a raven last night in a .4 and got 20 mil. Did I rip myself off?

Yeah you did. Ravens are out 90 mil now. Add modules to that figure 150 mil (guy was being cheap in his fit) IĘd say a minimum of 50 mil on a Raven.

depends on many things tbh. if he actually didn't have more than that and had crummy t1 fittings then sometimes i'd rather take 20mil than just a killmail. but it is worth a lot more than that usually.

Depends how the raven was fitted. If it was a t1 fitted ratting raven, then no. Those can be outfited for only a few mil isk so those have a net loss to a ratter of ~15-25m (90-100m for raven, 30m for ins, 5m fittings; 110m ins payout). If it was a t2/faction fitted mission runner, then yea. Firguring t2 equipment, Arb launchers, rigs, etc and loss to the mission runner is 100+mil.
Btw, what ship were you using to ransom a raven in .4. I'm assuming it was on a gate.

He was a ~3 month old mission runner. Wasn't thinking he'd have Faction stuff yet but...

Well...Im not a pirate but I would take at least 40% of insurance payout.
If hes even 6 month old, he certainly has the isk to pay that price....under 2-3 month old may not tho. Anything above 6 month or say like 1-2 years can even ask for 90mil since he prolly have 2x ship cost in mods.

You really want to know what ship I was using? Well a covert ops to scan him down doing his mission, and a celestes to do the dirty deed. Caught him with agro'd rats.

I always ransom bs for 150m.... unless of course we have a scanner handy, it then can get alot more expensive for the victim.

20m isn't bad. I usually go for half price of the ship. If they're a little short and I have the time, i'll let them haggle a bit down. If not, i'm happy with the km and selling him back his loot.

Always remember the possibility of the "client" being an 0.0 alliance alt...with the potential for heavy implants or fittings way beyond what a standard four month player might have.
Start high and go from there-in a busted mission you should have plenty of time versus in a belt. You may be nicely surprised from time to time  .

The way I look at it is, if you cant afford to lose the ship, you shouldnt be flying it. So ransoming someone is a waist of time.
So go ahead and ransom, because by the time you get done typing you will be sucking up some ammo.
BTW I fly a Raven, stop by some time :)

you have to spend time on fitting ships. thats what i hate the most when i loose a ship i really like.... takes atleast 30minz to get the stuff u want...more if ou got to lag hell jita :(
i have sofar never been able to ransom a BS.. but usually i ransom for platinum insurance cost.... all depends on char age and many more variables :D
should carry my alt whit a ship scanner more often whit me :D
