As a noob, I did the tutorial missions, mined scordite, joined miner corp, mined kernite, then spent a week doing agent missions, level 1 then level 2. All this time I was never threatened by another player. All the agent missions involved easy NPC kills, except Kruul, that's the only challenging NPC for a frigate user. So most of the time I spend time flying while AFK without any fear.
I know that all the action happens in low security systems, but this is not enough. Right now I have to put my self in danger on purpose, only when I choose to and when I choose to. There is no threat in just carrying on my daily business - that makes the game too easy. In 2 weeks of playing I was never in real danger. I would expect more action from a game, more things to worry about, more challenge.
Basically, I think the safe zones are too big.
Having said that, I find it surprising that considerable number of people complain about pirates, losing ships, getting podded. Why is that? The safe zone not big enough? do people REALLY want 100% security in safe zones? instead of like 99% that's already there. Where's the challenge? WhatÆs to be excited about if most of the game is completely safe?
I say - lower security forces in all sectors. Stop listening to whiners who can't handle a ship loss once a week. Bring some action to the game! yes, noobs want action too. Noobs don't lose much in death, occasional adrenaline rush is good for us.

I agree somewhat with your post (for the exception of calling people whiners )
I am not a pirate, but i have no problem getting podded by one....its part of the game.
What I dont like are the sneaky exploits that has nothing to do with game play (imo) to destroy you.
But I dont mind pirates...I think they're sexy

Awesome attitude!
I agree... make empire space as risky as it was when the game started. I had so much fun being held up in a belt in a 0.8 system. Sure the cops warped in, but the guy was not instantly killed, he got away in fact, and I was forced to take a breather.
Unfortunately this game evolved due to finatical pirates who did a lot of killing in medium sec space. O_o

You're not forced into lower security systems after 2 weeks of play.
When you play longer, you will want to find ways to earn more isk...e.g. mine in 0.0 and do more difficult agent missions. I'm sure you _will_ meet the dangers out there.

the more money you make, the more zeros you add to the number that you consider a "profit". the more zeros...the higher the risk you have to take to make a deal "worth your time". on the other hand...the more you own, the more you have to lose...the more you shy away from the risk of losing it. it's a nice balance...
but i agree with you in a major point: when i started (back in beta) it was my first PvP MMOG (besides AO that i didn't play long enough to participate in real PvP). i chose EVE because of its PvP content. i didn't want to be a pirate or a bounty hunter or something directly involved with fighting...i just wanted to be a trader. outsmarting the pirates and running the dangerous routes. ok, i admit, this goal i had to drop...maybe i'm not smart enough
i don't want the pirates territory increased...but i definately don't want it lessened either. humans tend to go the least dangerous way if possible...and i will if i can. but danger and adernaline are the real fun...

Check out the security status on your map...low securty places by far out weight the safe zones...lookin for a rush...go out there, choose an agent in a .2 system or sumthin, theres a ton of risk in EVE, ships die very fast if not always equiped for PvP...so give it some time ull see how risky it is after hours, weeks, or even months of playing goes gown the drain in 45 seconds..happy traveling.

My first week in game I have created a corp and rented two offices in 0.0 space. Recently I have been through the Huff Technologies blockade to go visit Germinate. I have also lost ships in 0.4 and never complained about it.
A 1.0 system that you can't avoid because it is the only possible road between many regions is not the right place for PvP.
The day you will lose millions of isk in implants you will be probably less coll with Pvp. It is more than just losing a ship you know.
It took me one hundred hours to build my thorax and I have never been in SL lower than 0.5 with it until I could insure it. Who are you to say I can lose it from PvP and it is not a big deal? Do you think I can spend 100 hours every week building a thorax?

Chnage corps -- go join m0o or Space Invaders for some action. Or hold <name deleted> hand while they shoot pilots at 65km away and then wait for the Freedom Force to come attack you back in revenge. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Get into a corporation at war and see just how big the safe zone is, that and view the map, see that small green and blue in the middle, that's it.

I think some of you are missing something.

That's beyond abnormal for most MMOGs. It's almost freakish. I've been doing missions in a Rupture in .2 space since Castor.
Attacked once. By a scorpion and a blackbird while floating afk outside a station. 30 seconds later, the Scorpion had my down to 3/4ths shields. He was so far away to remain outside the sentry gun's range, the tachyons he was using couldn't land a hit consistant hits(dunno why they didn't throw torps or cruise missiles at me). Natural shield regen took care of it. By the time I went back to base, dug out a Typhoon and returned for a bit of fun...they were long gone.
People seem to be advocating that others should be putting themselves at risk for the sake of putting themselves at risk. Aside from the fact that runs counter to most people's natural survival instincts, it serves about as much purpose as skydiving.
Sure, it's fun (did it twice). But how many of you look at a person like they grew a horn out of their forehead when they recommend it if you say "I'm bored"?
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann

Someone help me understand this, please. Because the ErraticFig contends himself with easy life in safe space, the game dynamics need to be altered?
When did the a responsible third party make the choice that Monsieur Fig would like to see reverted?
M. Fig, I strongly recommend a vacation in Placid.

One thing worth bearing in mind is that lower security empire systems have been a lot safer in general since Castor was released, simply because a *lot* of people are doing agent missions for research. The last two weeks (actually last month or so) is not a good time to base a judgement on empire safety.
That's not to say it's dangerous in the same way 0.0 is, but it's not as risk free as you suggest. Every new player should get into the habit of checking the ship and pod kill stats before making a journey... otherwise you *will* run into pirates. As a new player of two weeks, I'd rate your chance of survival under those circumstances as less than zero. I doubt you'd even last long enough to know you were in the wrong place at the wrong time
Once research dies down a bit we'll start to see the pirates return to their lawless ways once more

Well the problem is that new players way back when did not share your views...
Instead they shared a view where they felt everything should be given to them without having to go through risk or fear.
The Devs listened to them to the games general demize. Maybe now..that the game has matured a bit and that most of the whiny carebears have left, the game will get a bit more fun again. but its still on the fence. the devs have sorta said they were prepared to listen to suggestions, but it doesnt go any forther then that though :s...
So yeah wait and see if EVE returns to its former glory!
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

your lvl3 agent will send you to some scary places and mining some rare ore can be a bit scary too ... we had alot of ppl crying about n00bs getting podded so i think ccp made it no so scary in the beggining , like you said just playing 2 week's in a safe spot my lvl2 had my going to 0.4 and my lvl3 sends me to fd-mlj

that doesnt change if you want danger go look for danger always nice that you can choose to stay safe at your choice

Edited by: Asharee Intrefer on 14/01/2004 12:33:33 I have no problem with being sent to "scary places" by my agents... as I do missions for corp standings more than money I just try to minimize losses by heading out in cheap frigates or even shuttles if the cargo is small, and keep my clone updated in case I get podded. Loosing a frigate or a shuttle fast is better than loosing an expensive cruiser after a few minutes of against the odds fighting. :)

Erratic Fig the reason that the game seems so safe is that you are too new to the game to have to do anything dangerous.

I think Fig's post is an example of just how vast the Eve world is.
I would think Empire space was safe but for the fact that Luminaire and Yulai, both 1.0 systems, consistently show up in the "ships/escape pods destroyed" roll call. Existing in <.5 space, our corp has dealt with its share of pirates who like to ambush mining parties.
Some areas are peaceful, others aren't.
It keeps us all on our toes never knowing if that blinking yellow light on the scanner is an abandoned ship or someone looking for your hide.
Fun times. --------------

My point was that in the beginning Eve is pretty safe now, but as you get past the newbie stage Eve is as safe as you want it to be.
If he only wants to do safe things then he can play the game and be safe, but probably sooner or later he will reach the point where he needs to do something dangerous to achieve a goal. The most common example is going somewhere dangerous for trade, missions or to mine. ----------------- The universe is not only stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine. - J. B. First of all, if you have only been playing for two weeks you probably don't know everything there is to know about the game so you shouldn't be making these sort of statements. I haven't been playing for much longer than that but I read up on the forums everyday and I think I'm correct when I say that there would probably be less PvP if a player lost a ship once a week. Also, if you want to have more danger then there are plenty of systems that will accomadate you. I lost my rookie ship the first time I decided to hunt some NPC pirates in .7 belts. Yea it was fun and I learned a few things but I only lost the measly civilian cannon and shield booster as well as new 200mm autocannon I had just purchased. The point is after playing only two weeks I doubt that I would be any fun for anybody to attack unless they are just a grifer and enjoy causing other people pain. And most people like to play the game without having to worry about other players destroying them for the fun of it. In my little experience I belive Eve has a good combination of PvP and PvE content.
