I'm trying it out at work because I value my home computer. Download.com have reported some security holes but hopefully they will fix these soon. It's still only beta at the moment.
I have to admit I like it though. If they can make it secure I might become a regular user (but it won't take me away from Firefox). I like how it doesn't try to take over your PC (it doesn't even ask whether you want to use it as the default browser). Firefox and IE are constantly fighting on a Windows based PC to be the default browser unless you switch these checks off. Safari just naturally assumes you're going to be using something else as your default.

The HTML parsing engine really is fast as heck (Firefox 2 is the only slow one left now). But scrolling is far from smooth, and there's no way to full turn off the text smoothing.
That and it's very barebones feature-wise. That'll appeal to those Firefox users who don't run extensions though.
Of course I use Opera religiously.

Considering there were multiple serious security vulnerabilities found in the http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/06/12/0120230]first few hours of its release[/url], I would suggest not using it

I used it for about 20 minutes, then went back to Opera.

The Mac version is solid, but the Windows version appears to be about as secure as a sieve.
I was just reading that the remote code executions are working on OS X. That I found to be very interesting. Was also confirmed by several running OS X. |

Eeek. Guess it wasn't as solid as we thought
Good thing the apps run in user mode rather than privileged mode in OS X though.

That's what I was trying to say but it came out garbled. That's what I get for sitting up until 3am.

I had a play with the win alpha of Swift, which uses the Apple WebKit, a while ago and whilst it was quick and an all round good effort, it was ultimately a big pile of crap. perhaps the webkit is shot to hell?
i wouldn't know because i use firefox, which is now ****ter than AIDS according to people on t'internet.

So tell me- why would anyone actually want to use Safari out of Mac? What does it do that Firefox or Opera doesn't? --------

From what I have read, it will be used to develope/test web based apps for the iPhone. I really don't understand why they don't just release an SDK. Big mistake imo. |
