I sold myself an afterburner for 9,700,000 isk because I decided I wanted to beef up my other character. What I did was dock my character Gauron in the same station my other character Orin was in. I set up a sale for an afterburner with Orin for the price of 9,700,000 isk, a little less isk than what my other character Gauron had. I switched back to Gauron, found the afterburner and bought it. Gauron had the afterburner but the isk never transferred over to Orin. What happened? I'm still using a trial account cuz I won't have my card till this Thurs or Fri, could that have something to do with it? Did I just lose all that hard earned isk for nothing? Is there a way I can reverse the transaction or should I kiss all the isk bye bye?

1. if you dont get the money in an hour or so petition it
2. in the future use a private contract or trade to avoid this problem

Edited by: Kumu Honua on 13/06/2007 00:19:24 What happened is you don't know how the market works.
You just bought the lowest priced afterburner (Not yours obviously) for large sums of money.
The person with the lowest sale priced afterburner is saying thank you.
(This person is in the wallet journal, but don't expect your isk back.)
Next time you will do a cash transfer (Search for your alt in people/places and right click to "Give isk".) You can of course only do that on a paid account.
Edit: My explanation needs an explanation.
When I place a sale for 100 isk, and you place one for 100000000 isk and then joe right clicks on your expensive item and pays your exorbitant amount.....it sells him MY item, and gives me YOUR price in isk.

Actually, I was extremely careful before I bought the AB, I made sure I found the one Orin was selling for the exact amount I sold it for. i.e. it was the only one in the station that was selling for 9,700,000. So I'm actually pretty sure I bought the right one.

No, it doesn't matter what one you selected. It will always sell you the lowest priced one in the station you are at.
Even if you right clicked on your ridiculously priced afterburner, it sold you the one in the station that had a price of 100 isk. However, you told the market you wanted to pay 9.7m for that afterburner. (Tip?)
Market is not a place to transfer money.

Ouch dude, you just sent your 9.7 million isk to some other guy because you don't understand how the market works. You should never make assumptions about how things work in EVE.
Kumu is quite right. If there are two orders in the same station and you buy the more expensive item you actually end up buying the item from the cheaper guy but for the expensive price.
If you look in your wallet and check the transactions tab you will see who you sent the isk to. You can eve-mail them and ask for your isk back and hope they are one of the nice people in EVE. There are actually nice people in EVE. If it was me I would give your isk back, but there's no guarantee of course.
You can also petition it and hope you get a nice GM who will decide to take pity on you and your noobishness and give you the isk back. But that's also a slim chance.

No problem.
Try checking your wallet under journal tab. It will tell you who you bought the ab from. You might get lucky if you evemail him and explain what happened.
But, you might have just made a 9.7m learning experience =/

EVE is full of tough lessons. It is a harsh mistress.
If you want to try that trick you should use contracts. I think trial accounts can put up contracts, but I can't remember.

Trial accounts can't use contracts I believe.

Yeah, like i can never make money... And what happened to Gauron never happened to me... I mean I saw several prices for same type of item in a station and when i bought them nothing bad happened!

If all you were trying to do was transfer the isk then you could have just done a search on the char you wanted to have the isk, right clicked and selected give isk.
You can give isk to a trial account, or at least you could when I was a trial, in what seems many moons ago. |

Trial accounts can receive money. Trial accounts can't give money.
He's trying to give money from one character to another on the same (trial) account as he can't activate his account until later in the week.

Even if the other player want to return you the isk he can't as it is not possible to transfer isk to or from trial accounts. It was done to reduce the misuse of trial accounts by isk sellers.

Can they not use trade (person-to-person, on the same station?) - you don't even have to give something back, just put the iskies in? I used a GTC on my cutest creation so I can't test it but I can't see why it wouldn't work?

When you right-click on an item in the market like that, you're not buying that item. You're placing a buy order for that item at that price at that station. The person who's selling at the lowest price fills your order.
You can evemail the seller and nicely ask for your ISK back. It may or may not work. You can also file a petition. Sometimes the GMs are nice about such things, sometimes they are not. It's likely that you can kiss it goodbye, unfortunately.

Yes, in theory - but since both characters are on the same account, they can't both be logged in at the same time.
