I am looking for a few pointers on how to fit my shiny new zealot that i cant quite fly yet in a pve situation, perhaps level 3 or 4 missions. I can use some t2 stuff... not guns yet, soon, not hardeners/platings.. faction stuff is out of my league.

Don't use it in PvE. It has no drone space and thus is really limited, you can't (you can, but horribly bad) run missions where they are resistant vs EM.
It's a mid-range PvP killing machine.
For PvE go with Harbinger (or Prophecy, tbh it's good enough dmg for lv3 and you won't have to dedicate slots for tanking like the Harbinger). For higher level missions Battleships or Command Ship is the only option as Amarr. Either of the 3 bs' work, just different ways of playing them.
And the good news is neither the battlecruisers, nor Armageddon or Apocalypse will cost much more than your Zealot. Absolution or Abaddon would be slightly more.

ugh battlecruisers... frankly, i dont want to ever fly a hunk of space metal with shiny decorations every again. So i look at t2 smaller alternatives. I have heard and seen people running missions in zealots before, and i frankly dont care if you say it is a bad idea. It WILL happen, unless you can give me another alternative. (like...... .... .... err.... nothing comes into my head atm)

I runned a lot of lvl 4 missions with amarr navy in zealot, and i can say is pretty doable. You just have to be careful in which mission you chose and what ships to take down first.
First: Fitting
4 heavy pulse 2 1 med diminishing
10mn ab 2 fleeting propulsion inhibitor tracking computer 2
med repper 2 2x energized membrane 2 heat sink 2 thermic hardener 2 internal force field array best cpr
i made them while there were no rigs so i didn't put rigs on an energy burst aeretor and a ccc could be a wise choice though.
This was the generic fitting, most missions involved sanshas or blood raiders, so would be better to put 1 eanm 2 and 2 n-type thermic hardener
How to use it: Remember that even if it has a good tank and can run the repper indefinetely it is still a cruiser. It's best defense against battleships is transversal and signature. Your tank will work ONLY if you keep moving. So keep AB ALWAYS on. You cannot tank bses. You simply count on a really small signature radius and your speed. That's why i found myself more in danger against a bunch of npc cruisers that actually hit me, than 5 or + bses that never ever hit me. Thus first thing to destroy in every stage are webbing frigs. Webbing frigs + a couple of bses and your a dead target. Bring scorches and multi. Scorches allow you to oneshot frigs from 40km, and are really useful against cruisers. Multis will be necessary if the frigs get near you (you really want them dead) and when you'll have to take down bses.
Missions: If possible avoid everything with angels. I never did angel extravaganza and the few time i found some angels ships they were a pain. Mostly coz they use missiles (they always hit you) and are harder to take down. Guristas are more doable since they are less resistent to thermic, but you'll have to watch your tank carefully and perhaps do a warp in/out. Would be better to avoid them too though. Go for sansha and blood raiders. Easy and fast.

You know, those two things are directly related. To effciently run high end missions, and thus earn decent isk from them, you WILL need to fly hunks of space metal with shiney decorations on them rather than smaller alternatives...
Sure the Zealot can FINISH many L4s, but it will take WAY longer than any BS. Probably takes a bit longer than a Harbinger for L3s too.

When i say that faction stuff is out of my league, i mean that i simply don't have the money to get anything better than t2...

Harbinger does L4s easier than a Zealot???

hmm if anything a harbinger would do more damage, but not as much tank. 6 lows, no resist boni. I had origonally thought I could use a zealot because of the resists, and the range bonus... and its not really that expensive... only 90 mill or so.
7 lows should give me enough to tank with the resists, and fit plenty of damage methinks.

That was exactly what I was hinting at. To get the ISK to better fit small ships you need to run missions in large ships...

Read again. I said L3s, not L4s. Any BC can tank any L3 fine, and the Harb has one more gun and drones...

it will fly through level 3's, however my guess is it would take hours to do some of the harder lvl4's if at all. You need some pretty heavy damage to take some of the higher bounty npc BS down & EM+therm isn't always the best damage to be dealing.

hmm i run only blood or sansha missions, tank em/thermal, do em/thermal damage... If i were to run level 3s a LOT, would that be a good investment of time, untill i can get uber faction equip?

You don't need uber faction equipment. I used to run lvl in a standard t2 fitted retribution and lvl 4 in the t2 zealot described above. Lvl 3 were not much time efficient, but it was working and i had even some fun.
Mainly you need good skills, faction equipment is a not necessary boost.
And btw... for doing lvl 3 zealot is much more time efficient than any bc. That's because is simply twice faster than any bc and instapop frigs at the same rate a bc could do.
I almost instapopped friggies and destroyers with 2 guns ffs...
