From a technical perspective, what has EVE TV learned from previous broadcasts that they will be applying to their upcoming operations, in terms of handling stream performance and connection issues? Also, what stream delivery mechanism can we expect (Windows Media stream, Flash player, both, etc.)?
PS: Wrangliepoo, you've got a spelling error in your yellowy text. :)

How will EVETV adapt to the new rules of the alliance tournament? Such as possible as many as 20 pilots, plus multiple warp in points. How, from a technical perspective will the team team, especially the camera crew be able to cope?

After reading Xyliana's last production blog, she mentioned that the set would look towards what you would see in-game. Does this also mean the reporters/on-air staff will be playing more towards the EVE theme or will they have that "generic" earthing look?
To follow-up on that, will we be seeing this broadcast more as a "TV News Program" like your local news stations or is this going to have one of those "20/20" or "Dateline" feels to it and if not, do you hope to bring a more original vibe to the show?

I want to know why you have decided to start charging for something that was for the EVe community.
We where quite happy with the way it was done before, we did not ask you to spend out 11 million on some place to film.
Yes its nice to have a decent quality stream but paying for it?
its just comes down to profit again as with eve voice. This is not the correct way to go about getting more customers into your game OR into watching EVE TV

I really hope you reconsider charging people for this, your target audience shouldn't be Eve players it should be the future Eve player. EveTV is a great recruiting tool and you're blundering this by using it as a pay service.
On the FOH forums for the alliance tournament there was something like 20-30k hits on the EveTV link. I'd say atleast 90% of those people had never played Eve, and after that theres been 1000+ post threads dedicated to getting people into it.
EveTV is a marketing tool, not something to be sold.

OK I have edited this Since I have gone to the EVETV Site.
I signed up. I went to Watch the Fanfest. I saw 3 seconds of Video (Hello, I'm whoever this is Hellmar...Blah blah) It Stuttered and Buffered for over 45 seconds I turned it off and watched 2 of my 20 free Credits tick by.
(Please NOTE I have a Huge Pipe from my Office which is Right off the NAP Backbone in Miami FL its not my connection.)
I will not be paying for this. I will save the rest of my Credits to watch the "Premier" but paying Real money? Sorry Guys still not going to happen, You spokes-babes are cute, and its nice to see that they are players, but beyond that I'm not paying for Content I can't keep. Its not like EON Magazine which I buy once and read whenever I want. (Sure I could Videotape it off my PC and Xfer it back to Digital Re-edit to get rid of the buffering... But then I wouldn't be playing Eve now would I?)
Good luck but perhaps you could make the money by selling it to G4 Tech TV or Getting paying advertisers. Threv

My questions may come off as rude, and I apologize, but I'm very interested.
1.)How much of whats being reported do you expect presenters, who started playing as a job requirement, to understand?
2.) Why no Americans on screen? 2a.) Assuming your answer is 'geography' do you ever see a time when an American will regularly be on the program.
3.) If there is ever an official separation of dev and player which group would your cast and crew be in?

How much money will CCP lose when this tanks? Once it does, will it actually affect development on some real stuff? Would you cpp/evetv staff actually pay to watch someone else play a game?

I am one of the few eve players who have no other choice than play on dialup (28.8k *gasp*), which means that eve tv will be unviable for me outside of home. Will there ever be an option to pay to download a copy to your harddrive, or a very low bandwith option?

Is there any specific reason why the EVETV shows are only going to be available in streaming format?
As many members of the community have expressed, there seems to be little willingness to pay for a streaming service without the option to download the shows in addition. Will there be a downloadable version of these shows eventually, for example released a week or a month later?
Thanks in advance. --- WTS: Forum Signatures, price negotiable. Evemail me!

Firstly i'd like to say that i totally disagree with your decision to make eveTV cost money! You're already asking for far more money then any other MMOG i know. Now we have services such as EVE-voice and now EVE TV. Both of these services were built up and financed by all of us eve players who have been paying CCP 15$ a month for years. now CCP hypes EVE TV with the alliance tournament and shortly there after a service payed for by every player is now only accesible for people who are willing to pay extra. so basicly in the last say 2 years 1 of my 15 dollars went to finance eve-voice and eve-TV which now bring exactly NOTHING to me because i'm not willing to pay you even more - especially not for services that are free everywhere on the internet (eve-voice) or services that were free only a few months ago (eve-TV). that's a little like the h-eroin dealer (why the heck is that censored??) who sells you the first fix for 5$ and every fix after that for 100$.
so here's my question: what do you say to us eve players who have payed CCP for programming and implementing new features (ie. eve voice and TV) and then making those features only accessible to an absolut minority of players? How can this be fair when we all payed for CCP to create this service? |

Having tested out the stream in the flash player, I must admit im very disapointed about the quality of the stream. (Stuttering, contantly out of sync sound). I dont mind paying, thats fine, but the stream should refelct the fact that im paying for it.
Will other avenues of distribution be considered? (Like iTunes. Would love to be able to view the show multiple times without having to pay. Again.)

First of all, kudos on the EON mag - awesome publication, and one I don't mind spending some RL cash on since I can re-read it as often as I want, the quality is excellent, and the articles and stories are top-notch. My question relates to EVE-TV...
I can understand MMM Publishing's need to raise some kind of income in order to pay for the costs associated with creating the show. However, going the pay per view route does not seem to me to be a well thought-out approach since a large proportion of the playerbase are either unable or unwilling to spend extra money for this purpose, as we have seen in the responses in the forums to that little announcement. Have you looked into the possibility of having adverts during the show (and/or weekly show sponsors)? Even if these adverts are not directly EVE-related but would appeal to the "average" EVE gamer on some level or another (such as hardware manufacturers, gaming mags, gadget adverts, etc)? I would think that advertising to a reasonably large viewer base of dedicated gamers would appeal to that sort of advertiser. You could also look into corp/alliance adverts too of course.
I'm certain that the majority would prefer a free service and watch it often even with a couple of minutes of adverts every 12 or 15 minutes, than one that costs to watch it without the bonus of a coffee / toilet break. With this "free" model, you could potentially also make the shows available for download say 2 weeks after their original airing, giving your advertisers even more coverage for their money (and this should not cost you anything since your revenues are not coming direct from the players).
Has this approach been carefully considered? Have you tried approaching potential advertisers / sponsors to gauge their reaction?
If you have not considered alternatives to what is effectively another subscription model through Jalipo, I personally believe you are at risk of alienating and losing a large proportion of the playerbase, cutting out a great PR opportunity for EVE itself to attract new players, and ending up with too few people tuning in to cover your costs. What's going to happen in that case? No more EVE-TV? Recruitment Thread EKT Website |

Edited by: Kristie on 19/06/2007 20:27:17 Edited by: Kristie on 19/06/2007 20:26:43 If you are going to charge for EvE TV, I suggest you also make a way that people can trade isk for credits. I also suggest you re-consider the streaming aspect of your player. My connection which I have had to fight, scream, lie for only has about 25-28kb of download transfer bandwith and with where I live, I am never going to get a better one. Services like Vent and TS have countless problems trying to stream over my connection and they take far less bandwith than trying to watch one of your shows in high quality. If you are charging for it, from where I see things, there is no reason to pay less to see a really crappy version of something which is already going to look several times worse than eve in high quality. If you are really bent on charging for a service that I think nearly every player believes should be able to be budgeted from the main game income you simply have to make the files available for download, and in popular formats like mp4 (LQ), wmv (MedQ), mov (MedQ), mpeg2 (now we are talking high quality) etc. I know many, many players would gladly pay a little to have access to download the show and to be able to play it on a portable media player/game system, or to be able to simply play the show on their PC without the fear of stutters and other problems as they are watching it as high volume.

I don't mind paying as long as I get to watch the show whenever I want. In the age of TiVo, I should not have to be in front of my PC on a certain day and time to catch the show, especially when it would be so easy to keep it as a pay download.
I was really looking forward to this, but the implementation means that I'd have to schedule a time to watch it. If you offered it as a pay download, you could keep it in rotation for a week, which means the server load would be less, because that 45 minutes of streaming per user would be spread across the week.
I have no problems paying, but you really need to make it accessible to everyone, no matter what their timezone or personal schedule.

How come I only got 20 credits for signing up to Jalipo, when it was suggested 200 would be credited?
At $2 a show, surely the use of commerials would be more viable?
