Ok I've been running a Cyclone in lvl 3 missions fairly successfully but I'm getting bored while training for a Domi and wanted to try some 0.0 ratting. I found a nice quiet little spot in 0.0 that looks nice but end up having to dodge a few gate camps from empire and in general want to be making some income while minimizing my potential losses. Normally I just low-sec ratted in a Rifter but in 0.0 it won't put a dent in the 250k BC spawns and I didn't even try to take on a BS. Ratting in low sec just doesn't seem to rack up the isk and all the places close to me I end up spending too much time running from people warping into the belts on me.
Is it even plausible to rat in 0.0 in a cheapish Cyclone? Reason I want to use a Cyclone is because I have one, I know it well and mainly because I don't want to spend money when I'm saving for my Domi. This is my current lvl 3 mission setup but it has about 30 mil in equipment I'd rather not watch go boom when there is a lot less risk and higher reward just doing missions (or so it seems to me at this point).

LOW-SLOTS : ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tracking Enhancer II Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Reactor Control Unit I (don't have Adv. Weapon Upgrades to fit everything)
Any advice on what to swap out for cheaper stuff would be a good start. Of course a whole new cheap set-up would be welcome too. And there is always the "you're a noob, stay in empire" argument.
A couple things about my set-up: The tank isn't that great and can get overwhelmed but 95% of the time things go pop before I take major damage. I've got about 4.5 mil sp spread out with an emphasis on guns and drones. My missile skills suck and the assault launchers are pretty much to help pop frigs that get too close and help my drones work on a target while my 720s pop others in short order. The prototype 720s stretched my wallet as is so anything better just got way too expensive for me. My cap skills suck, my shield tank skills are just ok. I've tried a few setups based on research on the forums and this just seemed to click for me. Problem is a lot of its effectiveness comes from the T2 gear, which is exactly where the cost comes from. If I run everything my cap goes pretty quick but I can keep the invulns up pretty much indefinitely.
My 0.0 plan would probably be just to run away from players rather than put up a fight since I have virtually no pvp experience. Is the run away option a lot more difficult in a BC even if I'm aligned to warp? My rifter is out of the belt by the time the guy warping in activates anything so running has never been an issue but the cyclone isn't exactly nimble. If I remember correctly the rats where I'd be hanging out are angels and the explosive missiles seem to be the biggest threat.
Well hopefully this post is somewhat coherent, focus isn't really my strong point. Any help is greatly appreciated and sorry if this info is out there but I looked and couldn't find much relevant to my questions.

I always thought an AC setup might work pretty well for PvE, with a lot of NOS allowing you to just sit on BSes and never cap out
5x 425s (maybe 220s) 3x Medium NOS
1x Large (or XL if its possible with skills and 220s) Shield Booster II
1x MWD or AB.
All rest mediums in tank (resists),)
Mix of Gyros/PDUs or speed mods
Honestly I don't really know how well It works, just a thought.

If your ratting Angels, i'd suggest:
High: 5 x 650mm Artillerys (Fusion + Nuclear) 3 x Heavy Missle Launchers (Havocs)
Med: Large Shield Booster II, 2 x Invulnerability fields, Shield Boost Amplifier Cap Recharger
Low: 2 x Gyrostabiliser II 2 x Power Diagnostic System
It has decent passive cap recharge to support your shield booster until you finish cruiser sized spawns, with a bit of manuvering, you could take on low end battleships as well. I don't usually recommend Cap recharger mods, but since your operating out in 0.0 and haven't mentioned if there is a nearby station, i'm assuming you can't have a cap booster supply lying around. Having no shield extender means your sig is reduced a bit, thus taking less damage from BS npcs.
If you can squeeze 720's in place of the 650's, all the better.
Get your cap skills up to at least Energy Management 4 and Energy system ops 4, it helps alot. -----

Yea i figured ammo consumption would be the main drawback...

Depends on the rats you are shooting.
The Invulnerability fields simply wont cut it against rats doing EM or Thermal damage, so you need to make sure you fit 2 rat specific hardeners.
Artillery is also the way forward, but bin the AB if you dont absolutely need it, and get another hardner in, or even better, drop down to 650 arty and throw another extender in. Well, one thing you should think about is that the cyclone has a bonuse to shield boosting per level.Trash the sheild extender and put on a T2 large or x large sheild booster.Leave the burner off and add a T2 meduim cap booster.Run A couple T2 rat specific hardeners,as well as the invuln, you should be able to tank most of the rats you run into down there.Although you might need adv. weapon upgrades to fit it all on. ________________________________ The public will more easly fall for a big lie, than for a small one

Sweet, thanks for the advice. Yeah I'm not close at all to a station so ammo and cap boosters would be an issue. I like arty but in losing the AB is it difficult to stay in proper range? Dropping the shield extender is appealing because that alone was like 5 or 6 mil and sub T2 just didn't seem to cut it. I'd probably fit specific hardeners over invulnerability fields, just used them for simplicity in missions. How do 650s do against BS, enough DPS to take em down? Thanks again for the tips, given me some good ideas to mull over.
