The deployment of EVE Online: Revelations II is now underway. The second of three installments in EVE OnlineÆs second major game expansion, Revelations II brings a wide range of new content, features, updates and improvements to the EVE Online universe. You can view this information by visiting the EVE Online: Revelations Patch Notes pages. Dev Blogs with information on some of the recent changes, additions and features are also available.
Revelations II deployment commenced at 0200 GMT on 19 June and is scheduled for 24 hours of code updates, database maintenance and optimizations. Updates on the status of the deployment will be added to this news item and the Message of the Day.
Please note: The Revelations Patch and Full client installation are not available for download at this time. Notification will be made here when the downloads are available. Do not download or install any test clients into your play directory. These test clients will not work when on Tranquility after Revelations II has been deployed.
During the deployment, the Character Sheet and Player Forums have periods of unavailability due to the Revelations II deployment and database updates.

It is June 18th, 2007 yet the deployment was set for June 19th which should be in about 10 hours from now according to my watch. But, alas... the deployment is underway. Either the dates are off or someone is drinking too much coffee and has time-warped into the future.

It's set for 0200 GMT, -4 hours for EST and daylight savings if I'm not mistaken.

yeah, seriously.
I have skills to train. I'm not to sure when i can log on again; I'm getting the eve itch. If I don't get my fix, I might be forced to read something.

Well, I am on eastern time and as far as I can tell they brought the server down about 15 minutes or more early. I was going to log on and train some last minute skills before the server went down just to find out that they had already brought it down. It would have been nice to have had a little warning that the server was coming down early tonight.

They gave us like 5 days notice the server was going to come down for at LEAST 24hrs. Now, if you didn't set a skill last night thats kinda your own fault. And I hope the skill is for more then the 24hrs, patches have a tendency to take longer then said, plus the massive lag of 30,000 users logging in at once tends to kill things and make CCP restart the server for the next 24hrs. As an example our corp fueled our POS for at lest a week. the times after the patch is when we really start to get to know the meaning of soon(TM). Don't get me wrong, I understand how you could have wanted that last chance to change skills, but 15 minutes........ I think my clock might be off by about that, what I mean is not every one is counting the same second, thats why they gave us 5 days notice. Seeing as this is the first major content patch that ive seen, can someone explain why CCP requires 24 hours for the update? I mean I can understand 4-6 hours, but 24 hours and just for software?

24 hours is a worst-case estimate. They'll need several hours to reprogram the database, along with updating the server software on all nodes, proxies, and the DB server itself. After that they need to test everything and knock out any show-stopping bugs that may surface on TQ that don't occur on the test server. If we're fortunate, this could take as little as 12 hours. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

24 hours they need to apply the patch to the server then update the database plus make a backup, also hardware is tested reorientated etc. Theres usually inhouse stress testing and a lot of other things CCP sometimes are able to get it up in 16-20 hours but its buggy etc.

You have to understand, TQ is NOT one server from what I've read, its about 124 blade servers running in London. That means they have to update the software on each one of the machines, make sure it doesn't break them, restart probably between hotfixes, and then bring it all back up and test each piece of it. All of this AND having to deal with any issues that come up at the same time. RMR patching took that long I think but Rev 1 was much smoooother.
Hope that helps explain things! If Valar or someone comes along, they'll DEFINITELY be able to explain it better than po' old' me! |

You can always check the actual time GMT EST PST whatever at this website http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/ http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/
And for those who didnt switch skills...dont feel too bad....when I woke up this morning to go to work, I was going to switch to a longer skill training time, but then, the server was on it's routine downtime.....When I was heading home from work...I got stuck in the worst of traffic today and missed getting online by 1 min 45 seconds
So now.....I'm stuck.....I dont suppose they could turn it on just for me could they?

I wish i was in tiajuana eating BBQ'ed Iguana. Patches are an evil that suck but are in the end all good for game play read a book, wack-a-mole, eat a taco. The server will be back up when it is up and then we can all go about our killing and be one big happy geek disfunctional family in the space known as eve.

Mmmm... Revelations II. Here's hoping for a smooth deployment without too many restarts. If not, well, maybe we can get caught back up with real life during patch week.
Time to go see if they've changed anything in the patchnotes since they first posted them. . .
