If the path to your client doesn't contain any spaces, you don't need the " at all.
It's working fine for me with the command line:
c:\eve\eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF
I cleared my cache, etc etc first and it's just recreated everything in the old place as I'd expect.

btw...the "" for the target of a link is only needed if theres an space in the path like
c:\[User]\Files and Folders\xyz.ext
then it would be with switches
"c:\[User]\Files and Folders\xyz.ext" /switch1 /switch2:parameter
"c:\eve\eve.exe" /end /LUA:OFF is the same as "c:\eve\eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF"

If I let Eve automatically move those folders to the determined places, is that going to hurt game play? Or anything at all?

In most cases, no it shouldn't.

Can somebody tell me if the LUA switch needs to be there all the time or can I remove it after a first post-patch startup?

I'd say the switches should be kept in place all the time.
To the people who say it doesn't work, you noticed the bit about it being case sensitive?
It has to be exactly:
"c:\eve\eve.exe" /end /LUA:OFF

@echo off start /BELOWNORMAL eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF exit

With that command, you keep your cache and settings were they are, but the capture folder and logs will still be moved to My Documents/EVE/. Not much do do about it I'm afraid.

well to splash anyway.
(which reminds me will try without /noconsole)
edit; again, it's faster :P mwahhahaaha
What's /aflock and /pyoptimize for?
Yeah, what do they do?

Originally by: Andrahkon I use xp..but what has this to to with the os?
it's vistas fault. vista has special rules where to put what files, 'something to do with access and ownership rights. that was one of the reasons the client wouldn't run on vista.
meh, i willingly coose not to use vista and it affects me nonetheless, ridiculous.
the /things are switches to tweak some internal settings, someone made a post about it, but it was deleted.
