Question. Is, Entering - and just before jumping through; Writing " c 0c k? "(take a guess) in local considered smack, or just a question asking if there is a specific item around?

The fun life of piracy has attracted a lot of new ppl in the last 6 months or so and the numbers of pirates seem to be higher than ever. There are a lot more noobie 6 month old pirate small corps about and these are usually the type of ppl you find doing the kinda things you're talking. The well established pirate corps still hold true to their ways of old.

I have been 'pirating / ganking / killing' for almost 3 years... and still love every second of it.
- I like to smack in local
- I like to provoke debate on forums
- I am not modest about my ganking abilitys
- I am honest
- I still enjoy popping a shuttle (with a carrier is even better)
- I speak my mind without fear of what others think
- I don't go out of my way to further the legend that is 'tiller / klepto'
You say Klepto are just some 'forum pirates'.. sure we're here in force. Guess why ?, yup, there is almost 150 active members. Thats 150 guys in game 'shooting' up the place and generally upseting alot of people.
Of course your jealous and feel left out, hence mentioning us.. I understand though, I would be too.
Piracy is alot more common now days as more people get bored with the other content in the game. Either that or the population is so much larger ...which ever, I still love it!

once when I was still using my first toon I jumped into a system and said jokingly something like "okay folks, I'm here for your ISKies - just have them ready for me as I come to your asteroid belt." I was kidding, but I see your point here.
I used to be 100% opposed to smacking in local in general, but I see the tactical value of it at times. These pirates you speak of, however, are not doing it right :P --

Quote: - I like to smack in local
Alright, you like to smack. Fine, but can I ask you, if you are hunting with 3 other corp mates, and you jump into a system with around 20 people, do you instantly type in local "ALRIGHT NEWBS AND STATION HUGGERS, I AM HERE TO KILL YOU! WHO WANTS TO DIE FIRST?"
Better yet, if you're camping a gate, do you jump into the ajoining system and tell everyone, "Klepto is now camping the other side of this gate, newbs!"
No, because you're smarter than that.
Quote: - I like to provoke debate on forums
You call it debate, I call it e-peen stroking.
Quote: - I am not modest about my ganking abilitys
Certainly you aren't. To quote you, "I still enjoy popping a shuttle (with a carrier is even better) ."
Quote: - I am honest
I'll give you that, you don't lie about logging to save your implants.
Quote: - I don't go out of my way to further the legend that is 'tiller / klepto'
Yeah, and I suppose you slipt and fell, and accidentally put two to three threads a week in C&P regarding the uberness of Klepto.
Quote: You say Klepto are just some 'forum pirates'.. sure we're here in force.
Read it again, what I said was Klepto has a lot of members, and likes to camp gates. I suggested I don't need to hear about that from you 3 times a week on the forums.
Quote: Of course your jealous and feel left out, hence mentioning us.. I understand though, I would be too.
I mention you because of your ridiculousness, Ginger, ehhh, I mean Tiller.
Quote: Piracy is alot more common now days as more people get bored with the other content in the game. Either that or the population is so much larger ...which ever, I still love it!
Me too. I just see a lot of BAD or Braggart pirates these days.
Quote: I wish you would remember the above when you go on anti Klepto / Tiller crusades as usual. Maybe, just maybe I know what I'm doing (3 yrs in game) and you are in fact, technically speaking, THE NOOB
I never called anyone a "NOOB." In fact, I refrain from trying to claim superiority because I started playing the game 6 months before someone else. What I am saying is in the year I've been a pirate, the calibur of pirates has gone down, significantly.

It is unfortunate that this happens a lot of the time. There are still people out there who remain smack-free though. There's nothing wrong with some banter but there's a clear defenition between that and smack. A lot of people still need to realise that this internet spaceship game is just that, a game and as such does not need to be taken seriously to the extent of poisoning local with your bitter frustration and often incapability of taking you on.

First of all, I never claimed that either myself, or my corp never engaged in smack talk. I do think its rather childish, BUT, the example I used was someone jumping into a system, and instantly starting to smack.
In fact, if you bothered to actually read my post, I said even that action (jumping into local and smacking) could have a place, but when pirates who are hunting jump in and announce their presence to a myriad of targets just because they can't restrain themselves from calling everyone a newb, you have bad piracy.

They haven't made anyone do anything. But with recent game mechanic changes (HP Boost across the board for example) it encourages people to adapt to a new play style, i.e. blobbing up.
Battles last way too long in 1v1 situations due to new game mechanics, so people have time to call in their friends for support, 3-6 jumps away. Rather than risk having this happen, people have started to fly around in larger gangs.

I have no problem with people smack talking in local. As a rule, I don't. I won't tell you good fight or anything either though. That doesn't mean I won't chat in local, or with a victem or whatever. I've seen some good smack, and i've seen some terrible smack. If your smacking just because you think its cool, stay home, log off tbh. But if there is some purpose to it, to bait someone into a fight or to distract them or something, sure, can see its value.

I think Tiller's form of smack talk is different from the smack talk of these so called "mouthy" pirates. The pirates that announce their arrival to the system is to compensate their short comings (either physical or mental..you choose). If you ever notice the ones in a fight that talk a lot get there asses kicked 9 time s out of 10. Its the quiet ones you have to watch out for.
Tiller does it not out of fear of anyone really just to spice it up and to be friggin anoying.

I thieve ore for a living lately. I also haunt a 1.0 and 'thieve' ore there too..except I announce my intentions in local when I enter. It does a couple of useful things.
1) Teaches the new folks to watch local. I don't steal ore from them if they are frantically trying to stuff it into an iteron and get it to the station. 2) If someone thinks they are anti-pie enough to kill me, lets them get ready. I'm not a very foolhardy pirate, but a three month old in a cruiser is usually lunch. This teaches the new folks that shooting at the ore thieves over a couple hundred thousand isk worth of ore isn't worth it. You will lose your ship. (And thankfully at this point, they usually only have a cruiser) 3) If after all that, they are blithely mining into a can, they deserve to have their stuff stolen.
Its a public education service I provide..and yes that is how I justify it to myself ;) Makes me sleep well at night instead of staying up, sweating grasping a bottle of rotgut, drinking heavily to assuage my conscience.

I have never, ever smacked you, despite your repeated attempts to get me to engage in that activity with you.
Now having said all that, even if YOU were right, it wouldn't change my original post at all, smacking someone you know is perfectly acceptable. Its when pirates (so called) jump into a system filled with targets, and announce their presence by declaring "ALRIGHT NEWBS I'M HERE TO KILL YOU! WHO IS FIRST."

That's a lie, and believe it or not, this thread has nothing to do with you. A recent incident in Evati is what spured the post, along with the whole Klepto thing, and the guy who posted the vid of him dishonoring a ransom.

hypocrisy ftl
First of all, I never claimed that either myself, or my corp never engaged in smack talk. I do think its rather childish, BUT, the example I used was someone jumping into a system, and instantly starting to smack.
In fact, if you bothered to actually read my post, I said even that action (jumping into local and smacking) could have a place, but when pirates who are hunting jump in and announce their presence to a myriad of targets just because they can't restrain themselves from calling everyone a newb, you have bad piracy.
Lastly, I'll say to you:
Lack of reading comprehension ftl
-Karlemgne
I have jumped into a system and you instanly started to smack talk to me your all lies
Lmao, that sir, is an outright lie. Though you are fond of sending me eve-mails everytime I see you're in system whose content is, and this is a direct quote "f'off" or "**** off" or f'off you ******* blobbers." :)
Btw this guy ran away from an ishkur on ishkur fight.
-Karlemgne
I did run with the iskur fight but thats because we where on the gate and on the other side had five other members of you corp in. Its call being smart because when you would of started to die you would of had them all flock in to save you.
And most of the time when I talk in local that means i'm drunk and dont know whats going on. But 95% of the time I never talk in local unless a few beers are in me. Talking in local is bad when pirating.
And yes you have announced that you are in local and that you where there to kill me but I like fair fights when its not 5 vs 1 you have done everything you said you hate in your post! Nothing more from me on this because I hate going back and forth over something I dont care for lets just play eve and kill each other and maybe blow something up in the process

The Op starts by questioning why the new breed of pirates like to smack more than fight...and the thread turns into a smack fest
There are plenty of skilled pirates out there that know how to operate (tiller is not a good example )
The attention seeking forum w..(rhymes with oars) are not representative of the majority. When a "pirate" starts to say things like "ALRIGHT, WHICH ONE OF YOU NEWBS WANTS TO DIE FIRST?", you know he has not set his sights very high, and is probably a newb himself.
Personally I prefer to kill experienced players, as they tend to drop far better loot
As for the smacking in local thing...not good...the idea is to make the victim smack YOU in local, by blowing his ship up, and then have a laugh about it

Thanks man :-)
I'd also suggest that with your short 1yr in game and 'high' -7 security status you don't have a clue what your talking about
Your also in a alliance who are not pirates (read anti pirates), a corp called 'blah blah industries' and to top it off your CEO aint even a outlaw.
I rest my case.

Originally by: Karlemgne Edited by: Karlemgne on 20/06/2007 15:00:06 I know that many of the pirates in the eve-verse are smart, articulate people. I've flown with quite a few of them, however we seem to be as of late, attracting the crude, not so bright pilots to our ranks.
Recently, I won't name names here, I've encoutered a number of pirates who like to smack talk upon entering local. What-the-hell, who does that? I mean I suppose if you are going to specifically fight another corp, and you know you're set to negative, so your opponent will see in local as soon as you jump in, you can smack--though smack talk is childish. Having said that, these pirates DO NOT just smack somebody they're at war with, no... they jump into a system filled with carebears and announce in local, "ALRIGHT, WHICH ONE OF YOU NEWBS WANTS TO DIE FIRST?"
At which point, they get drawn into a smacking match with half of the carebear filled local. You know, I always hate it when someone I kill announces my presence in local, or tells their friends in the next system I'm camping a gate, but this nameless pirate does that themselves. Very strange, and I have a really difficult time understanding why someone needs to talk smack SOOO bad, that they are willing to give themselves up immediately whenever they enter local.
Then you have the attention grabbing forum warriors like Klepto. Fine, these guys have a lot of players in their corp, and spend their days sitting on a gate. How come I have to hear them brag about themselves twice a week on the forums?
And what's with the guy who posted a video of himself dishonoring a ransom?
I've only been playing this game a year, and have been a pirate the whole time, but I've never, ever seen the calibur of pirate reach as low as it is today.
-Karlemgne
Well...Pirating has always had smack in it...Smack is normal I have personally settled down on it because I got tired of the temp bans on forums etc..etc and basicly got tired of it and try too generally play the game now after like 4 ish years. But its a general cycle most pirates start off with tons of smack talking just because they want too get there name out there etc..etc...
Also pirates brag because we can and until you step up and take a challenge we keep on doing it ...we know you a carebear and cant help it its ok. But thats the whole ideaology behind it.
And honor is 2nd hand and touch and go with pirates all depends on what we want too do and if we want too kill you or whatever..there are never any promises with pirates.

The saddest thing i see with a pirate the other day was one camping a 0.4 system in a Nyx, i fail to see the point in this accept that the pirate is clicking the i win button with very little come back. I accept that if an alliance gets together he may risk losing it but the chances of this are remote. Still satisfying if that ever happened. I dunno maybe i am just falling behind the times but it just seems wrong to me.

Why would you want to smack in local when you first enter if you are actually hunting? I try to make myself seem as carebear friendly as possible before I nail them.

Most of the old school pirates have moved onto bigger and better things like 0.0 fleet battles etc. I've been living in 0.0 for awhile now and there's no way in hell I would ever go back to low-sec. Rewards and penalties just aren't worth it.

-Karlemgne
I don't think 1yr is enough to comment on the 'calibur' of the people playing one small part of the game.
You are right in that in the last 3+ years things have changed and solo play has largely been stamped out (thanks CCP for HP changes, you are great) forcing people to blob up...
The forced blobs then tend to be lower skilled and younger players who still perform well in groups but would be squashed solo....
Thats bullsh*t. I've started the game pirating and flying in a tristan playing as tackler for my corp. Very often did i read in local " Ahah noob what are you going to do with that thing?" amongst other less pleasant words only to see the brave "local" warriors getting poped by the gang that was after me.
Yes i used to help to blobs but seeing some peoples videos and reading stuff here and there on the foruns made me train to a ship that i tough that suited my fighting style, the Vagabond, and i always tried to do a bit of solo pvp in many ships, Thorax, Enyos, Ishkurs and later, Stabbers and Vagabonds, while with the first ones the success ratio was low, and the fun factor was high, with the Vaga both factors were high, with one Vaga i could bring down around 45 ships, solo and with a wing mate. ( Propolis and Roule my hunting partners, you guys ROCK! and also great respect to Legi0n and xXtiggerXx gangs you guys are the best)
Now one thing i have to say, most people gank since 1 year ago, can't speak for beyond that, but from there to this day i've seen INFOD, ME4N and others always ganking, one or other members really stand out, Dabster,Mr.Yoda, Laneth, Eve Warrior, the ones i remember doing solo stuff and they still do.
Solo stuff is not finished, i'm a n00b compared to a 3 years old player but i can say i have achieved with success doing solo PvP with alot of different ships.
Solo PvP isn't dead, people just went the easy road, mass lots of people, newbies in bc's and poorly fitted bs, the older guys in CS and Recons and there you have a wining receipt, as better as 1 person may be or may try to be you can't stand against a blob.
I really wish more people to leave the blob method and go back to solo stuff, belt hunting, roaming, there is a few people still and ask them if they don't find targets and have a blast. _______________________

If a pirate come sin lcoal pulling that crap;
1) Message him, saying you are a pirate and want to work with him. Be convincing. Promise wealth and women; or men if they act like a fairy.
2) Gang warp to a safe spot.
3) Kill the bastard.
4) Pod him.
5) Go about your day; business is business

Smack is half the fun :)
The only reason I smack in local is to **** people off, and this thread is proof of how ****ed people get at it (deny it all you want, if you posted in this thread that you dislike smack talk, it ****es you off). When people get angry, they make mistakes. When people make mistakes, I get easy kills. When I get easy kills people get even more ****ed off.
