I know back in the day ASCN participated in a number of events setup about our "relations" with the Angel Cartel and started helping them out and getting some little rewards here and there for it. I don't know if we ever got actual standings out of it, but I imagine that was where it was headed. I also imagine this kind of thing was going on in other regions with other major alliances.

ASCN tried to get on good terms with the Angel Cartel. In some events ASCN helped the cartel against its enemies, responding in force and losing quite a few ships in doing so (tough fights).
Angel cartel response was arrogant, condescending, demeaning. The promised "great reward" amounted to some BPCs of ships that ASCN farmed daily and in greater numbers from the complexes in the regions. The "reward" was some 10 % of the ships lost in helping the Cartel. ASCN talked to Angel Cartel about it and was ridiculed.
ASCN gave the Cartel the finger from then on.

And your incredibly condescending point is... what exactly? I knew all that already, I listened to Steel rat talk about it on TS multiple times. I never said the reward was a king's ransom (as I recall at one point we were also offered a bunch of Angel Cartel ammo, or something along those lines).
I was simply speculating about what kind of things these standings might have come from. The fact that a single story arc interaction didn't have awesome rewards has little to do with that, and in any case, +4.5 standings aren't exactly a license to print isk either. :P
