After you launch your drones is there a way of making them attack a specific target or do they just launch and then attack the closest hostile in the area ?
Also is it possible to map these functions to keyboard. Currently i launch the drone by right clicking on the drones interface panel "drones in bay" and selecting launch, then they just and do their own thing, but I am losing a lot drones as they agro a target that I am not shooting at :(

You'll notice in your overview, in the drone section, 3 categories... drones in your bay, drones outside your bay, and drones in deep space (I don't remember the exact category names but they're close enough).
If, at the start of a fight (after you've gotten agro from nearby NPCs), you right click on the category bar for the drones in your drone bay (as opposed to right clicking on each drone individually) you can launch all your drones at the same time.
Once launched, you can right click on the 2nd category name and direct all your drones to attack your currently selected target. In other words... lock on to something then release the hounds!
There is, unfortunately, no way to assign drone commands to the keyboard... we drone users are forced into carpal tunnel syndrome due to our need to always right click and select from the menu in order to guide our drones.
You can right click on individual drones and control them that way, too. You can also highlight several drones out of all the ones you have and issue commands to them. You can also assign your drones to groups, in which case you can direct them by group, too.
Hope this helps, WredStorm ----- Think out of the box, consider passive shield tanking your Myrmidon, you'll be pleasantly surprised! |

so if i give the command engage target (comes up as an option from the second box "drones in local space", all the drones will then attack the current target I am firing at ?

Youd think so, and that is their full intent, however, goldfishes are far superior when it comes to shorttermmemory. They will charge for the hostile of your chosing, until they spot another hostile. Or a structure. Or a gas cloud. Preferably one somewhere else. It might be in the grid, if its not the drone will fly around a minute looking for where it might have been, if it was in the grid, while the other four go on a space whale expedition. You can of course remind them, and they will venture forth in ther quest of... uhm... uhm... oh look, its a gas cloud!

The current target you have locked. You can let your guns fire @ lets say a BS target and lock a frig and send your drones @ the frig. _________________________________________________ Breetime

Thanks for the tips guys. Think I need to send my drones off for re-education :)
I have only just started training drones but already I can see they are awesome fun.

As mentioned above, sometimes your drones will "forget" who you told them to attack and pick a new dance partner. This seems to happen more often when they are told to go a long way to attack something. The solution is to keep telling them to engage your chosen target... eventually they'll get there. :)
Oh, be aware... when their designated target goes "kabloowie" make sure you're ready to assign them to a new target... otherwise they'll scatter to the winds as they each go and pick a new target (you'd think they'd at least have the brains of a bird and stick together in a flock, following one "leader", but noooo, they like to spread out if not given orders to the contrary).

you hope so... sometimes it takes another try or two since drones are a bit buggy at times. but eventually they get it and do what you want them to.
oh btw... they wont attack what your firing at necessarilly, they'll attack the target you have selected. small point, but figured it was worth pointing out.

one more question....
how to you repair your drones when they have taken a lot of damage to the armour after the fight has finished ?

As for repairing drones, there are two methods:
1) In space, using a remote repair module and sitting there repairing each drone over time (Lock target and engage)
2) Dock and use the Repair Shop. Select your ship, click Repair Item, and Repair all. that repairs the ship, all modules, and any drones you have aboard. (and it's done instantly, but takes money)
Or there's one of my philosophies..... I make drones by the thousand unit lots. I'll try to keep a drone alive in combat just like the next gal, but if it pops, I've got many more in the bay, and a few dozen in the hanger at all times. (although it is cheaper to repair than replace.....usually)
Mine da rocks, make more ships. Pop da rats, make more rigs. Sell da gear, make more money.

and option 1.1) Use a repair drone to repair the damaged drone (only for armour damage tho)
As for drone control: If you don't want to lose them, shoot the npc before you release them, if you have two or more guns:
right click on the drones you want to launch (usually a group you made, like light drones), hoover your mouse over 'launch', fire gun with F1, click launch, fire gun with F2
And your drones will go for that target (unless you're slow)
Using drones is something you can pick up pretty fast, the return to drone bay command and launch and attack commands are pretty much all you need (and a gun/target painter for aggro).
All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me.. Drone guide.. |

Another tip.
If your drones start taking damage recall them to the drone bay and redeploy them.Hey presto!Their shields are back to 100%.
