Tried to submit report through the default form but looks like included files are too big (1.39 mb) and it got rejected. --;;
Anyway: there's a nasty graphics bug which appeared along with version 3.10 of drivers for ATI Radeon cards. It affects generation of cached textures, that includes character portraits, planet texturers and ship/drone icons. The content of generated, saved textures appears to be random, usually a tiled part of expected image rather than what it's supposed to be. (or random spots of noise on plain background in case of planet surfaces)
sample: generated character portrait, 256, 128 and 64 pixel big version
Essentially, the problem appears when you run the game client for the second, third etc time since last reboot. Right after system start everything works fine until you quit the game client and start it again.
(the game is also prone to cause complete system reboots on subsequent restarts when Esc is pressed... with antialiasing disabled, so it doesnt' seem to be related to old problem)

Edited by: Siolan on 17/01/2004 06:38:35 Yuck! Still not sure if I've updated to 3.10 yet (may be using 3.9), but that's no good. Kind of depressing that EVE and Radeon have some intense rivalry in their pasts to make their products dislike each other so much

"Kind of depressing that EVE and Radeon have some intense rivalry in their pasts to make their products dislike each other so much "
Yeah, don't get me started... for a game that's supposed to be endorsed by ATI and show off Radeon abilities, that's getting pretty ridiculous.
* character portraits and ship icons are broken since at least two official builds. reported and bumped couple of times.
* planets look like sh.t, and some of them for strange reason have their surfaces rendered as pure white image. Problem existing since i can remember, again reported and bumped couple of times.
* and now the textures get broken for good (though seems to be problem on ATI side with 'tis one)

j0, chances are this isnt an Eve problem, but a problem with the Cat drivers. What you should do is e-mail ATI about the graphics corruption and they will probably do a quick check to see if its their end or the software, if its their end chances are they will quickly release new software.
Taken from the May 29th 2003 Devchat at EveGate . <Muaddid> Q: When will sentry gun and station and similar construction pods be introduced on the market? <Hellmar> we have various player owned entities already implemented. Sentry guns, power/shield generators, field repair mini-stations, mobile refineries. We are still working out the last tidbits of how they can be over taken, what is the penalty of having a sentry gun kill a n00b etc. and we have been a bit busy with plugging the holes that people have found.I would say that you'd start to see these items on the market in about 2-3 weeks, very expensive to begin with |

My 9800 and the new drivers work very well with eve. However, I do CTD (like everyone else), but now I wonder if mine are ATI related. -Domaru

"j0, chances are this isnt an Eve problem, but a problem with the Cat drivers."
Yup, most likely; problem is, no way to tell if it's actually error in driver or they implemented something that's actually supposed to be there and has such side effects... so thought i'd report it here. Besides, i'd figure it's quite a difference when someone from CCP mails them "hey guys looks like you broke our game" rather than some random user. ^^;

ATI - The way it's not meant to be played.
Your 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes some nublar, wrecking for 1155.0 damage. |

you could try the new omega drivers for ATI crads, i have them and they solved all my probs, among them a system reboot bug. they are based on the CATALYST 3.10 drivers so its not like you will miss out on any of the new functions.
