I've noticed that all dialogue between hosts occurs with the involved individuals directly facing eachother. It can be difficult to watch - viewers miss expressions, reactions, etc. Traditionally TV host dialogue has the speaker facing the camera directly, with the listener facing the speaker.
It's just my preference. Please take a look up at the camera. Of course, with interviewees, this doesn't apply.

hehe, i was wondering how this 11m studio didnt have camera-projected scripts. looking at the camera ftw, guys =)
aside from that - it was okay, and ill probably watch the first 2/3 of next weeks with my remaining credits, but i dont think ill subscribe. it was a bit too rambling.

Also try to soften the light a bit. Everyone had really shiny skin.
A bit of makeup on Spiral wouldn't hurt either. He looks kinda tired .

First og all i want to say that eve tv looks good, but there are one thing that might make it look better. I noticed that the presenters in the studio wasn't sitting correctly due to the height of their chairs. The height made them look like they was slouching. If the chair height could be adjusted so the hands was more straight it would look much better and professional. Just a small adjustment to make a world of difference I like going south. Feels like going downhill. |

Suggestion: Get teleprompters, that looking up and down looks a bit weird ;x
I know you are not professional news presenters, but in my opinion always looking to the audience is a big plus.

The whole thing sounded way too robotic and scripted compared to the alliance tournament. Plus the fact that there was a lot of script reading.
The whole thing seemed too stuck up and like I was watching sky news or something.
More relaxed and community-esque is the way to go. Basically check Verone's post and use that for improvements Xyl.
Currently, I won't be paying.

I think if they brought back the couch maybe or just chilled out more, they read it like the news we see on the TV so we expect them to present it like the news we see on the TV, maybe if they sat back and just had bullet points as news to follow, e.g. on there pieces of paper they had "scrapheapchallenge - empire attacks" and then they elaborated on that it would be and sound a lot less scripted, or even just have 2 hosts and a few ćexpertsĆ on a couple of couches (1 for hosts 1 for experts/guests) and discuss the weekly news with a bottle of quafe and a the dinosaur who I miss dearly to keep them in order.

thanks for all the suggestions. We hope to always have a player guest that talks about the news headlines as well. Next week Ifni and Farjung are on to do those type of things and also discuss the ins and outs of what the players who want to come out to Iceland in Aug for the Tourney. Feedback really helps, thanks again guys and gals

Edited by: Saladin on 23/06/2007 19:22:11 I have to echo what was said about the scripted setting. Too much looking at the paper and not enough eye contact. Spiral in particular had all the animation of a dead fish as he robotically read off the paper in his hand. I have no doubt that if he watched himself he would agree there is room for improvement there. The tele-prompter sounds like a good idea, but I don't know what (if any) technical hurdles come with that.
It would be nice to have a market segment on the news, perhaps with comments/interviews with EvE market moguls or those embarking on great new ventures. With the one FT article released on EvE's economy, I think EvETV would do well to build upon that potential. I know a lot of market forum regulars would love an interview with Dan Speed, so that would be a good place to start. ----

I should think of it more like a podcast-like tv-cast, not a news broadcast.

What about a guy holding up flipcharts with the main points besides the camera? You will neither loose eye contact nor forget what you should be talking about. I think that way your news report would also sound more naturally since you can't write every single word on the flipcharts to read it off from them.

The sound volume/quality was alot better during the parts of the programme outside the studio. I watched the 1000k feed perhaps the difference is only heard in the best quality.
So better positioning of the microphones for the next episode.

Its probably been mentioned but I think that this show is all about engaging us customers who play the game... and whats more engaging that helpfull tips and discussions about playing the game?
i.e. what about each week for 5 minutes, theres a segment about vagabond Tactics, how to gatecamp, how to avoid a gatecamp etc, how to, or a case example we did earlier etc
I think this would be good... :)
(Get Teleprompters too)
Please Help me, YOU could be next!

Edited by: The Host on 25/06/2007 18:31:01 well, surely there are some expenses involved in producing it? Doesnt seem to me like they're looking to turn a profit, just cover the costs. The 500k stream when I moused over said it would costs 69p to watch. 69p! If you demand something for nothing all the time, initiatives like this won't happen unless there is a sugar-daddy. This way it stands on its own two feet and is supported by those who want to watch. 69p. If you dont want to contribute that, dont watch it. Im a new player, and Im hoping this'll help fill in some blanks and give me an insight into the game and what to expect. Im looking forward to next weeks ep. A 'newbies corner' feature would help too, to lessen the learning curve (without being too irrelevant for long standing players)

If you can't afford a teleprompter, just have a guy standing with cards next to the camera, and he can just drop them as he hears the last few words on it.
Proper News programme style with teleprompter ftw.
All round, I quite liked the show, I especially liked the alliance profile, that was very professionally put together, well done to all involved.
I would like to see a little more on the financial side of eve, the economy in general, well known corp's financial affairs reported on, share prices, market booms, etc etc. This would really round out the show for me, and I would definately watch it.
All round though, a thumbs up from me. -----------------------

(This became quite a long post and I realise I might repeat myself a few times, sorry in advance)
I'd MUCH rather have ads then pay over a euro for every episode, however i'm quite sure there are people that feel just the opposite and hate advertising in all it's forms, why not have an option to pay for advertisement free (and maby higher quality?) stream and one lower quality which is free and has advertisement in it.
Also i'd have to say that this "news type" of show is not the way to go. It seemed like they were reading their papers more then having eye contact, this is obviously lack of experience but keeping it less pre-scripted is a way to avoid this i think.
Personally I like to have an option to save things I like (if for example there's a show I really enjoyed) and watch it later or just being able to pause, rewind and watch something again (if you missed what something said, for example), but with the current system this is impossible unless you want to do something illegal or have to pay every single time you watch it...
I definately enjoyed watching the tournament WAY more then the current evetv, that's for sure, evetv just seems stiff and waaay to scripted at the moment and needs to be more relaxed and not trying to be a very professional show (no offense but the people involved just don't have the experience, and if you were to get people that have the experience the cost would most likely dramatically increase and that's not good either)
In short, the biggest flaw is probably that it's waay to pre-scripted and generally just too stiff.. Also it needs more options then just paying to watch. I was looking forward to evetv when i heard it was coming back but I must say that it was not even close to as enjoyable the tournament was to watch (even if the quality of the stream now was WAY better, i was quite impressed by the quality actually!)
Basically, less pre-scripting, more laid back, try not to force the show into looking like it's very professional, that's not the way to go. I realise that filling 30 minutes with good material is most likely quite hard...
Please, don't force people to pay or they can't watch it at all, how about you release it on torrent in lower quality with ads or something like that a few hours/days after the airing of the show so people not wanting too pay aren't entirely left out... |
