I have to mention my second most memorable, because it leads into my first.
A bit over two years ago, I had limited PVP experience, though I liked it, and had no PVP experience in battleships. My dominix (my money making ship) was fitted with 350mm railguns and (because I ran out of grid) a MEDIUM ELECTRON BLASTER. We were at war with another alliance. You can see where this is going by now, don't you?
Well, I undocked to find an enemy raven outside my station. Not thinking twice, I shot at him. In warped a classic gankageddon (remember that?). Uh oh, I thought, time to escape! In panic, I warped to a gate (picked a random bookmark, and it happened to be an insta), instead of a safe spot. Of course, I couldn't jump. I was met by both ships shortly thereafter, along with a third ship. No escape this time, for I was scrambled. I unleashed my drones and resolved to go down fighting. I put everything on one of the three targets, chosen randomly in a blind respiration.
I did't stand a chance against a raven and a geddon. I was ripped in short order. However, I explode at the exact same moment as my randomly chosen target: their tackler, a buzzard. His covert ops cloaking device II (long before invention) was destroyed. I later learned that the covops had been a significant nuisance over the past few days.
Final blow: 'Limited Electron Blaster I'. What a lucky noob I was. No glorious victory, but I drew blood.
=====
Fast forward two and a half months later. Since losing my dominix, I'd been playing with destroyers to supporting small gangs. My battleship loss made me lose confidence. I thought of myself as being useful only for taking down tacklers. However, I'd just fitted a brutix with medium NOS and was going to try flying that in gangs. I was still poor, only recently recovering from losing my money maker.
I noticed from the map that there was a 1 pilot in a remote system of our territory. I decided to investigate alone with my brutix, not knowing what I'd find. My suspicions were correct, as I discovered a neutral intruder. I had been practicing probing recently, so I had a good grasp of the directional scanner. I very quickly located the intruder in a belt. Nothing alarming - he was in a wolf.
I warped in and landed 10km away. Lock, MWD, approach, NOS, web, scramble, drones, pew pew pew. I took him completely by surprise and ripped his ship apart. He tried to get away but didn't stand a chance. My heart was thumping and my hands shaking as I scrambled his pod. I recall him asking for mercy, but I sent him back to a clone vat.
Okay, so what's so memorable about that?
Well - he dropped faction loot. Only moments earlier he'd killed a faction spawn and I had by coincidence found him as he celebrated his good fortune. I felt a little bad for a second, before celebrating my good fortune.
I was excited and very proud. This was my first victorious solo kill. I fell in love with my brutix and gained a lot of confidence. I never hesitated to go out on my own after enemies in it, and in one case I saved a hauler who was being chased by an assault frig (didn't get a kill though). It changed the way I looked at PVP and I never doubted myself again. That's what makes it my most memorable kill.
