Anyone else notice the nasty little habit that *bleeping* database has of crashing on the weekends?
I'm starting to think it's either someone on the outside doing some kind of huge database crawl for their website, or a malicious attack by some script kiddie out there that has too much time on their hands...
Please CCP... fix this... If I wake up in my clone, there will be hell to pay...

This is becoming a too common occurance. The only way that they will pay more attention to these kinds of issues is if paying customers quit. I like the game but I am paying for this service and this is very poor service. They should consider giving reimbursements to their customers. Then they would feel it in their pocketbooks and would devote more resources to resolving these kinds of issues. Are you paying attention CCP?

You know, I hated 99% of the crap I dealth with when playing WoW, but I have to say this.
Blizzard refunded or pro-rated EVERY SINGLE day that the server was down in the 4 months that it took me to level to 60, farm a purple suit / epic / 1k gold, and sell.
Every. Single. Day.
CCP, a lot of people would be a lot less ****ed if they got just one free day in recompense for putting up with your shaky connections. Don't like giving out free days? Fix the problem. Problem's with the ISP? Look, I don't know how UK / Icelandic law works. In the US, that would be a LAWSUIT. Breach of contract. Failure to render services. Sit down at the bargaining table and figure it the heck out.

Instead of complaining here's a real easy fix.
1.) When the server comes back on, log in.
2.) Transfer all your ISK and belongings to Dotard.
3.) Cancel account.
Done! No more worrys.

Edited by: Asperoth on 24/06/2007 02:31:40 I share the frustration. Have played many a MMO. None were even close to being down as often as Eve. For a game that shuts itself down EVERY single day for one hour for maintenance, it still manages to be a lot less stable for those other 23 hours a day than just about every other game out there.
At some point though, even the most rabid amongst us who absolutely love this game and keep coming back server crash after all too regular server crash, are going to move on if this doesn't get resolved.
------------------------------------------------ I have gone to look for myself. If I get back before I return, please ask me to wait. |

Yes but no other MMO was ******** enough to say no we are only having one server and we are going to cram you all on it no matter what. If they simply split up 1/2 the population it would be fine.

heh, and its not like the segmentation isnt already in eve.. dedicate a servers to groups of regions, and then during down time have it re-evaluate where the major load-heavy regions are and redistribute them among the servers.
I dont mind the downtime as much as the random lag-spikes, crashes, and unsecheduals down-times like this that ALWAYS!!! seem to catch me when i need to swap skills.
the new content that ccp adds in is nice and all, but QoS has never really been improved.

There's no excuse for it. I'm sorry but there just isn't
This is supposedly the most sophisticated and powerful supercomputer in the gaming industry, and they appear to be taking the **** and getting away with it on the backs of those of us who give CCP leeway for their excellent work with a great game.
I pay good money to get this product and in all honesty when I bought my 30 day GTC I might as well have only paid for 28 days... and who knows, maybe even less than that if things continue the way they are.
I seriously suggest to CCP that they start compensating their customers for downtime, or suffer an exodus of players.

Do you simply not understand how computers work or something? Yes okay they have processing clusters for a Region sure. But there can only be 1 central Database for the entire thing to run off of and if that goes kaput ( like its doing right now) then the entire thing is toast.
When you setup a new server you have completely separate main Database Clusters so this issue wont happen because apparently they are running the most advanced tech in the work on this ( I dont believe them for a second).
I just want to play my game and a tried and tested method is making new servers and this is what they wont do.

Know what's nifty? Skills keep training. So, in essence, you're still playing in the conventional sense that in a normal Mmo, you'd be skill-upping.
Relax. ------------------- My opinions (ie, all of my posting here) are not my corporations. Nor should it be taken as such. |
