university connection, shaped to 2mbit each way at peak times, but during low usage I've seen speeds as fast a 4.5mbit down and 6.8mbit up. (I seed anime torrents)

Cball, I DO have 100Mbit both ways :) Uninett in Norway has those crazy speeds, and it costs me no real amount of money at my dorm :D

standard 512kb/256kb for me,
maybe the populous is at the point where we can see "512kb/256kb" as a standard connection.
May even have the effect of attracting more people, who knows.

Good old Cox Cable standrd resitential service. I think It's about 1.1-1.5 down and 384K up or there about.

56 mother fricken K. How I desire DSL. I waited for 3 years for DSL to come to my town and im not in the god damn radius of it!
I say those of us who are dammed wth 56k should rise up in arms against our governments and make them give us DSL or Broadband!! I live in Canada so it shouldnt be hard! now I have to figure out how to get to Ottawa...

Your school has your NETWORK CARD set to 100Mb/s full duplex.
No school could afford to give each student 100MB/s to the internet, ASK ANY NETWORK ENGINEER!
I am an engineer, and know the facts. Ask your schools IT staff about the difference between your PC's nic speed, and the speed SHARED by all the students to the internet...(lanspeed<>interentspeed)
I don't doubt the school gives plenty of bandwidth, just pointing out that there is a big difference in what people think they are getting and what is really there.

My school has a gigabit connection from our dorms to their central. From there it goes from the school at 155Mbit to the ISP central. Due to a well set up network by the isp which is used by most of the big universities here the caching and stuff saves quite some bandwidth. Depending on where I download from I usually have 4megabyte per second, so youre right its not 100mbit for me alone, but that is what is my connection, some days I get most of the line, some days I get as low as 2Mbyte per second. Inside the ISP network I get around 8Mbyte per second.
I could say my connection speed= varies
But we all call it 100mbit as that is our max attainable speed out and in.
