Dear captains, dear CPP-staff, dear friends,
it is with a heavy heart that I step in front of you to write the board entry that I should have written nearly 3 years ago. The reasons for not posting earlier are as manifold as sad. Sometimes things happen in your private life that change everything forever instantly, and events that do not even allow you to make the arrangements you would otherwise have done.
Today I live another life at another place, things are good again, and I finally want to apologize for vanishing years ago, for not answering the literally hundreds of mails I received from many people, and for letting EVE-I down. Maybe some of you remember, but many probably have not been playing yet: EVE-I was my precious little treasure - it was my community site back in the first days of EVE. With the help of countless people, by investing thousands of hours of work, EVE-I became a meeting spot for many players with a daily visit count that I have never seen before on any of my sites.
A virtual spaceport pub, if you want so, for this fantastic game EVE Online. For a surprisingly huge part, discussions in the forum really mattered, they made a difference, with an audience as mature as you would love to see it everywhere. It was you, the people who wrote these news, board entries and comments, that have shown to me how great the WWW can be. How real virtuality can be. You truly are: a community.
From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you all for making EVE-I what it was. I want to thank Kreischweide and Latta and Dumbledore and many others who contributed either by coding, by providing content or their ideas. It was an honor having you join. I want to thank CCP, not only for this uncomparably awesome game (I had to make a character to be able to post, so I saw the current EVE, and look how beautiful she got!), but also for their support - I couldn't imagine how a developer could give their attention in a better and more professional way to a community site as CCP did to EVE-I. I pull my hat off to you.
EVE-I will not be back. You know how sometimes old actors mess up their comeback? Because they are way too old for a certain role? Because they do not have the time to invest anymore? Because they lost the passion in the years before? Because you generally can't rollback the time? EVE-I Balboa? Nevertheless, the files are all there, a little dusty, but nothing is lost. If you, Kieron, want them to pass them on, please contact me. It's all yours, naturally.
Farewell EVEonauts, it was a pleasure to fly with you for a much too short time. Yet, I wouldn't want to miss any of it. I apologize once more to everybody who got his feelings hard on EVE-I suddenly vanishing. If I could have prevented it, believe me, I would have.
Stay hungry. Stay foolish.

Sad to hear, but glad to hear the last words the lease. I wish you the best and hope that your life treats you good.
If possible I'd be happy to take a copy of the site to see how you made some parts of the database there as it - in my opinion was one of the best item databases ever made and so far I have not managed to even come close myself to the class it had.

I realize this is Dancer's call, but hopefully a deal could be worked like that with some site. I understand the "EVE-I Balboa" thing, but that doesn't mean we can't pop a dvd in and watch a favorite movie for the 100th time. Just host it as an archive, no updates, and let us sift thru it for memories. There's SO MUCH data and news there from the early days that I'd love to browse once again.

I still remember Eve-I as it was the first place to go before you log in. tbh it was quite as important as the eve-o site itself.
Good luck Dancer, whatever you're up to these days.

Good to see your safe Dancer and no apology needed, real life comes first.
I am still around and kicking though I have no idea on Latta. I'll send an email to your old address, otherwise evemail if you get in again.

EVE-I was without any doubt one of the best fan sites I ever experienced; all catagories. And, after the face lift, EVE-I turned into one of the best looking as well.
I remember following the server pop stats available on EVE-I during the summer/autumn of -03; how the pop declained for every month and how many predicted that the doom of EVE was closely approaching. They was wrong.
I still miss your site! ........ When ever in doubt; troll.

you see the server graph... Record: 12849 at 20:32, 02/06/2005 Brings back good memories.
EvE-I was like having an online EVE manual and SHC forums all rolled into one (very)easy to use website. ItĘs a site that hasn't been bettered, and is still missed by those of us who were around back then to use it.

Edited by: Snake Jankins on 25/06/2007 10:32:26 Well, yes sometimes things happen in rl that hit you like a hammer and change a lot and depending on what it is and what you feel, can just make you stop with something like EVE-stuff from one day to another. ( I understand that abit, I lost my father recently.)
Originally by: Dancer1 things are good again
Good to hear that. I loved your site for the time we had it. It was a gift. So thanks for that. Can only say it was nice to hear from you and EVE-I again after all those years (nostalgia) and I wish you all the best of course.
*edit* and well, also best wishes for the one, who maybe takes over. ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |
