i think it would be cool if when a ship is being attacked when it still has sheilds, you can see the sheilds get hit like when you use a booster. i think it would add more realism to the game. and also that armor would show a little damage besides just a flame when you are at 40% hull.

Yes! It never made much sense to see the shots hit the hull and not see an shields. Same with missed shots as well. Every shot at a ship visually hits it, even if it misses.

If you are going to go that far, then also make the "remaining shields" display change (flash) to the color of the damage type that was used to hit the shields.
But, the UI is pretty bloated as it is, so....

I believe they don't want to do that for the same reason they don't do ship paint jobs. Every time a ship with damage jumps in, the client would have to load up the damage which would cause lag.

I don't think ppl are asking for exact interpretation of the physics, just a some stock shield art for each weapon type and each accuracy type. So the client would just need to know that glancing damage was taken for example and the art would be displyed. kind of like the Gun animation. And they should also add the ability to turn it off. |

sadlly the lore of EvE states the shields are not a bubble they are in fact warped around everything skin tight
unless starwars where shields are made to block lasers armor is eve is electornicaly resistant and shield are made to stop things like rocks form hitting the ship
however this does not rule out different effects :)

It won't work, you'll need server-side calculations to tell the client which side of the shield is being struck, and using just simple NSEWUP as directions, you're just adding more lag to a (finally) smooth running game.

Not really, they could trigger stock animation just by the vector the ship firing is in. It would cause about as much lag as gun animation i bet. |

I agree -- It would add to the realism of the game. I also think that since there is the option to turn a module off during flight that the energy it uses should be shot back into your cap. that ability would be very useful in a pinch.

Yep I agree it would make the game more realistic having the shots or missiles or what ever is being thrown at said shield, make said shield glow in what ever colour the devs decided to make it glow / flash what ever, But you have to remember just a few things about computers , Not every one has the latest hardware or best cpu / graphics card with 4 gig of ram. I know of some people who play on laptops as that is all they have to play eve on. Or even comps with older cpu's and graphics cards that just would not be able to display the new flashes of the shield. Another thing I would like to point out is plese dont just flipantly say " well go out and buy another computer " it is not that easy for some to be able to do that as comp prices in the UK are in general double what they are in the States thus making building or buying a decent rig that will last a few years just to much to pay out for. Some people have families to feed and fuel to put in the car to get to work to pay for said food and bills. Family first luxuries later. But I am all for having flashy stuff on the screen to make it look better just give us the opportunity to turn it off like we can with turret effects. Hijackzorzzzz

Yep an if your positioned right they bounce bk to the ship that fired them for a wrecking shot... that way in fleet battles laz0rs/bullets ect ect would be whizzing past you and actually had a chance to hit you, and add even more realistic features..

No, WWIIOL does this already; all bullets/shells are tracked for 1 km passed its firer, which means in a good fire fight, where bullets are flying all over, the server is tracking each individual round's KE, vector and origin. Because of this, the graphics engine in WWIIOL is severely dated (re: 1995ish).
