Edited by: E Vile on 26/06/2007 11:51:07 This logoff escaping is downright pathetic. Nothing more cheesy and carebear then the magic logoff to dissapear. EVE claims to be a hardcore pvp but this is the most pathetic move I have seen in a MMO's pvp.
Even City of Heroes has a logoff timer. SWG also. Very simple to impliment.
Also people escaping to a low sec station. Like any station would let a ship dock with people shooting at it. Unrealistic, and a very cheesy escape with people undock/redock heal, repeat. I can see if it is owned by that players corp, but get real.
Please take these Hello Kitty options out of game. "The key to immortality is to first live a life worth remembering."

Well the alternative is like 99% of other MMO's when you have 30 seconds or so in the world before you disapear, which brings an equal amount of whining about being killed from a disco episode...
As a dev I dont see how you can please everyone on this one, however as a player at least you know that somewhere in the world there is somoene who knows you pwned them and they ran like a leetle girl and basically exploited to escape.... thats gotta carry a certain amount of satisfaction in itself. ++-------------------------------------++ IM A UBER PRO PWNER TRAPPED IN THE BODY OF A NOOB |

I do live with it. I just don't understand how a otherwise good pvp overlooks something like this, and I will not just accept and live with it without at least making it clear it's very lame option. Lesser games have logoff timers. I would expect EVE to be held in higher standards then something this as I said before "Hello-Kitty". Quite simply if you get killed during 30 sec log off timer, you deserved to be killed. Seriously i think it actually should be more like 1 minute at least but if you were inside a station or pos you would log out just as you do now. Easy fix to really annoying problem.

Oh, go play Counter Strike or something.
While I do agree that logoff tactics are lame, that it shouldnt be a way to save your ship when you¦re being shot up, the station part is nothing to complain about. Me, I wouldnt mind seeing more potential being added to NPC stations, like paying a tribute to the Station Commander to have them protect your ship from aggressor when in range, or have the station launch drones to shoot at pirates coming too close.
Defenitly not hello kitty. EVE is a game for all players, not just pirates who wants to get quick ganks and a fast thrill. Just because YOU chose to be a pirate, does not mean everyone have to stay put to be ganked. There is always a chance for your target to flee. Get over it. Accept it. This is EVE.

Me and a mate caught a Raven the other day. Attacked it and he logged thinking he would dissapear, oh how we laughed.
Had a full 15 mins to kill him. Would have gotten the pod too but none of use had probes .

When not at an station and not close enough to an stargate people cant escape if you web/jam them (jam first before web because otherwise you might actually give them the little boost they needed to insta warp).
When people logoff they stay 1 minute and 30 seconds ingame as far as i know (if they did it under the gate cloak they have 30 seconds or more where they will be uncloaked considering the time it takes for their system to load it it may even be almost the full time).
If people are shot before they logged off they get an aggression timer which means they are tied into the game for 15 minutes which means plenty of time to kill their ship and pod).
What to do if they are playing to dock / undock game: If it is a station that will require more then 5km of travel before you start moveing out of range this may be hard, otherwise have a few ships ready specially designed to bump someone out of docking range (it can be done thanks to no ability to instantly redock).
When they are sitting ontop of the gate well unless they shoot (back) at you you dont do much against them jumping off, maybe if lucky you can try bumping them off the gate. Also speedy ships might be able to slip trough an camp but these days it is pretty much about catching them on the outgoing side rather then the incomming side duo to WTZ.
Basicly there are plenty of oppertunities, just dont expect to catch 100% of the targets (unless you have a smartbomb mothership perhaps ). There are actually logoff timers, if someone was shot at you have 15 minutes to probe them out (and it is hard for them to defend a ship when they are logged off, you possible even can get the pod). Anyway plenty of oppertunities anyway if you play it right.

Edited by: Icarus Starkiller on 26/06/2007 12:23:04 A few members of REPO scrambled the other day to chase down a freighter, got to it 1 jump from its destination and it... logged.
We hung around for a while, it logged in and out *instantly*. This reset it's landing point to wherever it came out of warp after the first logout (at a gate). Twenty minutes later it logged back in and within 40 seconds we had a covert ops sitting on top of it. Unfortunately the pilot logged out even before the ship came out of its inital warp (intending to reset it's landing point again) and the covert pilot was unable to target it at all
"target invulnerable"
It disappeared after 17 seconds and didn't log in again for another 4 hours.
It is amazing that an alliance of 2000+ members has to resort to such lame tactics to escape a single corporation of 50 members. -
Life is pain...anyone who says differently is selling something. |

Camped a gate last night. War Target known to be in a stabbed frigate jumped in.
I prayed (vocally, on ts) for him to CTRL-Q.
It's actually EASIER to probe and catch a CTRL-Q and his pod after he's logged off from his WCS fitted fast frigate than if he runs for it.
He did not log off bless him. And we did manage to get him and his pod at his destination warp, but only just, and only because he did a silly.
CTRL-Q = easy kills. Keep it CCP. Keep it.

Didn't Tiller use this tactic to save his pod not that long ago? Its not just carebears that use this, I think when the game is stable then a longer timer would be fine, but until then too many report lag spikes/blackscreen unable to do anything after you jump or undock.
I was sat outside Rens watching the Privateer wars (please bring them back) and Cown I think it was undocked and lost a ship, I was wondering why he just sat there. He told his buddy he had blackscreen'd when he undocked and saw nothing of the battle. The day you can be 100% sure of no lag/blackscreen then yep increase the timer, till then I for one could never be sure some one logged or lagged.

In Eve it isn't. If someone logs off while scrambled their ship doesn't go anywhere and you get a super easy kill handed to you on a silver platter. And if they're aggressed in any way (if you just hit them with any gun, missile, EWar module, nos, whatever... ) but you don't have them scrambled when they log off, you still have a lot of time to probe them out and kill them. ------------------

I've never understood the argument about ctd. People die all the time in combat from crashes, freezes, lockups etc. The ships are not reimbursed as the problem is at the clients end, and not the server.
So the only thing this Ctrl+q does, is to protect those guys that log while under gate cloak.
If some guy manages to out maneuver me, then warp to safe and log, that is fine. But if you chase a guy 5 jumps catch up with him follow him through gate and re-approach, only to see him blink out of local before he decloaks....then that is not fine
We already have e-warping when genuine lag sets in on gate jump, so why not make it that logging while in gate cloak leaves your ship in space for 15mins

Agreed.
Although at the same time, I feel it's somewhat frustrating to have your covops on standby for a logoff (because 30s isn't long) instead of ... well actually scouting or something. I mean, even the time to warp from the other gate might be too long.
*sigh*.
I dream of an EVE, that has ships 'shutting down' in space, taking a 'useful' amount of time, perhaps by offlining your modules one at a time, although perhaps with a 'as much cap as you have' warp before hand. (so if they didn't see you log, then they're unlikely to see you on system scan to randomly probe you).
Of course, because it takes time to take your modules offline, one at a time, if you log back in quickly (e.g. CTD) there's no real issue. 1
Pn login, have your ship take a while to power up, maybe necessitating online each module individually. Again, deliberately so logging in and out in the 'middle of nowhere' is doable, but has certain 'problems' with doing it. You're in danger if someone hostile saw you do it, and you're in danger if you're logging in in hostile space, because none of your mods are online.
Personally, I think EVEs much the better when logging in and out is done at POSes and stations, and only in space in emergencies/crashes.
