I shouldn't have to install multiple clients, modify files, move crap around by hand, recite archaic incantations, wave magic wands, sacrifice goats, or any combination of the above in order to log onto a test server. CCP's code should do the systematic and repetitive work for me when I first attempt to log onto a test server and then keep track of this stuff thereafter. Maybe there would be more and better test data if it wasn't a pain in the ass.
It's not that I'm a noob and can't do this stuff. It's that I'm a snob and refuse to put up with doing this stuff. ----

If you log on to the test server, you're a volunteer bug hunter. A volunteer bug hunter should be able to figure out "copy over TQ install into new directory, and add a switch to the command line". If you consider these 2 steps too tricky, you really shouldn't b trying to help out at bug hunting. --------

OMG. Please stay where you are. The WAMMBULANCE is on its way. For real, don't whine about the test server. CCP isn't going to make another 650MB installer because your too lazy to copy a single folder over every once in a while.

No CCP should be happy that customers take their time that they pay for to test their products... So they should make this process as simple and fast as possible so people can jump in and test something when they got the time not tinker for hours before they get in. Don't ever think that you should be thankful to anyone because you get to test stuff for them.

LOL. Arse about face error.
Just be thankful people are willing to test stuff for free (*) for CCP, you, erm, helpful person.
(*) Apart from those that use the test server to work out future profits and losses and use it as a form of "insider trading" to go and apply to TQ before patch day.

Just to be absolutely sure what we're talking about here when you say "tinker for hours". You copy your TQ client's build directory (right click, copy, right click, paste, wait). You add the switch "/end /LUA:off" to your launcher. You let the auto-patcher patch the new client to the test build.
That takes you hours?
None of this is mucking around with code, or settings, or hand-parsing binary. Its just standard Windows user stuff. If you plan on bug hunting, honestly this is not anything special. A few scant years ago, this was standard for starting ANY program. --------

Yes CCP, how dare you not make a client that can run multiple versions of something. This is far more important than fixing current bugs, and adding new features to enhance gameplay.
Afterall, doy uthink its EASY to right click, copy folder, and paste somewhere else?

I decided not to install Vista. ---

You pay for access to Tranq. Sisi is like...a free added extra.
Imagine you go in to McDonald's and order a cheeseburger. The guy behind the till says "for this week, all cheeseburger's come with a free new McDesert, for trial purposes!". You eat your cheeseburger, then eat your new McDesert. You don't like it.
Do you then demand your money back? Do McDonald's owe you anything? --------

Well, OK... no refund for a free product, but that wouldn't seem to apply here.
Same example: You go back to the counter and say, "This goo in the so-called 'apple pie' is not apple-based, and it tastes awful!" The cashier won't insult you and have you thrown out for exceeding your rights as a McDonalds customer.

Maybe that is the case now (my 1st Mac used floppies), but it did not used to be like that. My Mac always had to interrogate me repetedly on just about every choice I made. At least a Mac will check to see if you have enough disk space available before blindly trying a file copy. Apple must have a patent on that or something it is probably the most braindead feature of any version of Windoze.

To be honest, I don't think that you'd give good test data if you were on sisi with an additude like that. A good bug hunter lives for this sort of work, and is not a 'snob'.

The problem with the cache could have been easely avoided in multiple way. Note: read known issues / game development forum and you see that sometimes the override switch doesnt work properly for people (can guess that they might be doing something wrong but then currently it became complicated for anyone not troughly studied in computer mechanics do people really have to be to play a game & test new builds?)
How could it have been prevented?
Quote: [b]Customisable pathways trough clientfile[b/]
pathways.ini mainpath=c:\program files\ccp\eve\ logpath=c:\documents and settings\<user>\my documents\ccp\eve\logs\ prefpath=c:\documents and settings\<user>\application data\local settings\ccp\eve\
--comment & disclaimer-- This file can be manually edited if you want to use different pathways then the ones specified by the application. However if you choose to do so these changes may cause your installation to stop working properly and we are unable to provide support for this. If you choose to still proceed make sure to make a backup copy of this file before proceeding.
Or if ccp really had to hardcode some of this duo to vista compliance or internal code accepted behaviour it could also have created deeper pathways with the server names and perhaps even with the name(s) of the character(s) although the last option might be dangerous because the path might exceed 255 characters (limit in windows, although not sure if that still is these days). Either way the results would have been <path>\ccp\eve\tranquility, <path>\ccp\eve\sisi and <path>\ccp\eve\multiplicity.
Would have been so easy to forgo many problems people can have. With the ini file there could even have an question box asking if you want to specify a path or want to let it select one automaticly. Auto = standard compliant path Manual = 2 options search by browseing for the location or click a button that retrieves the directory where you installed eve in (EG just use the path that it had been useing all the time allready).
Ah well

I'm confused. Try logging in to the test server without an active subscription.
If your subscription entitles you to log in there, then yes it's part of the subscription fee. This talk about "rights" just confuses things. Your subscription authorizes you to log in there if you choose, and to access the forum to discuss it if you choose.
Maybe "rights" are applicable, maybe not. So let's say you don't have the "right" to anything CCP offers - what does that prove? You're "entitled" to use it... "authorized" to use it... and so on.
