Remove all mining from all current ships. Make an entire new series of ships, dedicated miners only. It can be fully analogious to the present ships. They can still mount combat drones for smaller NPCs but no turret weapons.
Just an idea.
Keep on flaming, lamers.

You would think this would make sense. But frigate should be able to mount mining lasers so that new players can mine if they want to make money. "I'm comin' for ya, and Hell's comin' with me!" |

I like.
make the newbie ship a "miner" ship (ie, leave it as it is) and then make certain ships classed as miners (like the probe, incursus etc)
the easiest way to do this is to make "mining" mounts - and then make a range of new ships that have heaps of mining mounts :) -----

I agree, miners should have a specific ship as others have cruisers/battle ships for fighting.
IMO the ideal ship would be one with armour 1/2 the strength between a cruiser & a BS but with the cargo space of a Bestower. The high slots should be maxed at 4 to stop strip mining, but the low slots should be around 5-6 to allow expanders & warpcore stabs.

Good idea, except that it was mentioned several times in the past few months without any response from the devs. ______

It might be nice to have some Miningships in addition, but why should mining removed from current ships? I think it is quite important to be able to go mining with a BS. Just imagine solo mining in 0.0 with a mining ship that has no defense except some drones.
Mining ships might be quite usefull if they can mount more Mining lasers Than an indy right now (4 sounds good) and if they have cargo hold at ~1000 without expanders BUT if you give them 5k and lots of low slots, why should anybody still use industrial ships then?

gotta agree with skillz . the idea that a prime killer like a apoc is turned into a mining ***** is unbeleavable . proper mining ships using industrial skill as its base with maybe its own skill .is the way too go .

Like I keep saying, it's not a mining battleship, it's an Asteroid Destruction Battleship!

Edited by: Jelerak on 19/01/2004 20:14:20 I agree with Skillz.
I'd like to see a 'utility ship' class, to include such mining ships and possibly some other non-combat functions.
Of course ships like the Bantam and Probe are already employed this way, but it would be nice to see more development along these lines.

Ship classes and specialisations have been mentioned so many times before - I hope the tech 2 versions are that.

bahhh i want my 8 lasers on apoc dont mess with my settings.. beside without ores no pvp etc... so ya all strip them stupid roids, its a pain but needed, why make it more pain ? lol but a speciel miner ship would still be coom but it should just be an option not a demand. no one should deside what ship a person mines in... 4 ship each race would be stupid. for the normal miner.. the dcm miner however hmmmm now lets see a ship for the DCM. should be fast have 5 dcm drills. ****load of cargo place. and a massiv defensiv flock of drones... like 20+. now peops could whine about that BUT imagine this ships item will only work in an asteroid field or somehting.. idea ?!??! yes indeedy

it would help if they improved the mining ship's bonus on less CPU cost and powergrid cost and all other ship's it will cost ALOT more.. that is what i would do rather than hard code it

Mining ships could have less turrets but they should mine faster, get more ore per cycle, use less cpu as in be really spceific miner ships. They can be used by the ones who trained their mining skills high so they are what the best fighting ships are for fighters, worth playing for. If its easy to get then mining stays like it is now something everyone can do without any real specialists. -------------------------------------------------------------

well it does make sense
you dont give a Samurai a shovel and let him work at a farm ... thats throwing away potential ...
yes ... i like the idea of having special mining-class ships with some kind of Mining bonusses like: 3% mining yield per level and 5% less mining-laser cap-use per level ---------------

Well amongst the elite frigates there are DCM frigates, that get (based on the info on eve-db) an 90% cap reduction on DCM miner cap usage.
When the elite frigates actually come out, it might just be a general mining vessel, not just for DCM.
I doubt they will change the current ships much. Too many people would complain. Better to just specialize the new ships, which are better than the current ships anyway.

So I guess you've NEVER done ANYTHING alone in this game?
My sister used to own a pet goldfish.
That's no more irrelevant to my point than your comment was. Sure, you can mine afk in 1.0 solo, you can mine in 0.5 solo, I do it. You should NOT be able to go to the most dangerous parts of space, alone. If you can do that, why do I have to log on to the server and deal with all you lot? Let me play the damn game with nothing but NPCs, they're less idiotic.
In short ... anything that makes it harder for people to survive alone in the wild, is a good idea. The point is not preventing people doing ANYTHING alone, as you well no. It's preventing them doing EVERYTHING alone.
