There appears to be a very popular mission spot in a particular system I visit. This mission seems to give around 4-8 frigates to destroy for each person doing the mission. I've run into situations where 3 other people are doing this mission, and there are over 20 mission NPCs spawned all over the place. Combined with all of the cargo cans floating around, this area has become a hellhole of lag.
Oh, and this is near a normal spawn point, so there are regular NPC spawns here along with PCs hunting them.
Mission: Ambush the pirate raiders
Objective: kill 7 guristas invaders, 1 guristas saboteur in <system name>
I will not list the system name, as it's in lower security space and lots of people tend to go here.

Here is what I just did to fix the lag... I cancelled my subscription. I have lost two Ravens in the last two weeks fully decked out with tech II stuff. It took me a long time to build up to them and I get blown up first in a LVL 3 mission and then two weeks later in a LVL 4 mission because I am not able to do anything. Once I finally warp in, I am already blown up. This program sucks. So the best way to solve the lag is to quit. I will take my $20 a month US, and play a different game. Taurus 6345 signing out... for good!
