I have recently returned to level 4 missions, and can't believe how easy they have become. Colleagues of mine, fellow mission runners, say it is due to the whining of countless pilots who, instead of getting better skills to enable them to do harder missions barrage CCP to make the missions easier.
Over time these same pilots will have better skills and the missions will no longer be a challenge, will CCP then nerf level 5 missions for them?
Will these pilots stay, as pilots like myself who feel our loyalty has been ignored, once these pilots are no longer challenged by lvl4 missions, as due to their own actions lvl 4 missions are too easy and the cost of a carrier to solo level 5 missions is to prohibitive.
Bring back the challenge that was originally intended for Level 4 missions.. you nerfed the cargo capacity, you nerfed the rats. I know your not that soft. you've made level 1 -> 3 missions all but redundant.. a tread mill even new pilots skip through as quickly as possible.

level 4 are hard enough.
Dont judge them from your faction fitted few bil BS or few tens of mil SP. Lvl 4 should be possible to do even with 5mil SP. Not all, but major part of them. Since well, maybe someone doesnt know, but some 5 mil Sp players already dont have enough to cover expenses only from lvl 3 missions. So lvl 4 are perfectly fine versus small bits of profit they give. They are harder then npcing, give less isk and morevoer they dont drop good stuff. 1.8mil end lord with basic miner? lol ---

easy level 4s are now level 4s the old hard ones are now easy level 5 the hard level 5s will eventually be level 6.
CCP is just expanding the game as it gets older while still allowing new players to get at em within a reasonable time

I can do some easy ones in a faction fitted navy vexor, I wouldn't do the same if I wasn't specialized for cruisers. I would get ruined fast in another cruiser, with other tanking elements, or T1 guns & drones, or just by being slower...
Maybe the hardest ones have been nerfed because everyone can't have a faction fitted BS, be skilled in their main weaponry and in drones and in tanking, and everywhere. You want challenge?
Try lvl 5. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! The Vexor Navy Issue is much more fun than the Myrmidon !

Nah, be happy you have lvl5 now.
Besides, one of the dev blogs stated that they were considering about lowering the gap between lvl3s and lvl4s and that would've meant even easier lvl4s. Gladly the debate over it made them keep it as it was.
Have you tried it with a "new pilot" as you say? It still requires decent support skills to get efficient enough battleship to complete lvl4s.
I'd like to see more variation in missions, you can always get the challenge PvPing. I see some missions getting boring as you start to know what's going to happen.

Edited by: Donathan Slade on 28/06/2007 16:46:32 I do have to agree, L2 missions are boring and its the same mission every 2-3 missions. Its so boring its pointless.
its like, I want to run missions and get up there. but its sooo borring running the same 4 missions over and over.. and changing agents is pointless because I am using the Q18 agent for the corp I'm running missions for.
edit: I mean, I could run L3, but at Q-14, its pointless too.

For a start I don't run a faction fitted BS.. I do run a fairly top spec BS with a few faction bits that I've acquired from loot.
as n0thing pointed out I have 10's of mil SP.. and thats the point I'm trying to make, when you have 10's of mil SP you'll have the same issue...
I've only heard of 1 lvl5 missions solo-able in a BS.. and I have been testing them out myself. The step to lvl 5 missions is not proportionate to the step's lvl 1 -> 4 5 month old players are doing lvl 4 missions! but the step to lvl 5 missions is considerably larger
I don't see why I have to be penalized for having more skill points.. and If I had a faction fitted uber leet faction BS then it should be a bonus to me for the hard work put into getting it.

I can run some in a Assault Frigate! I'm sure most could if they tried.. thats how easy they have become. CCP could, and should have made lvl 3 missions harder for those who found lvl 4's to hard and lvl's 3 to easy.. not the other way around

I haven't yet run a level 5 mission as I've not yet been able to pull together a gang for it, but I'd be interested in hearing from someone who has on exactly how difficult they'd place it as being.
You may say that the step from level 4 to level 5 is a very large one relative to the others, but then how large of a step is it for a gang?
If a 5-month-old character can run a level 4 mission, can three or four 7-month-old characters run a level 5 mission? If such is the case it wouldn't seem like the difficulty is disproportionate so long as you can find friends to help.
And I suspect that's the point: to get you to start working with others. If you're saying that level 5s are too hard because you can't solo them, then you're probably missing that point. At some point it violates what sense of realism there is in the game for a well fitted battleship to be taking down a fleet including capitals all by it's lonesome.

In actuality I see your point, and to some degree agree.. however, why was it ok for CCP to nerf lvl 4 mission? for the very same reason as you say why couldn't the 5 month old chars team up with friends to do them? the fact still remains that the step from lvl4 to lvl5 is disproportionate. you can try lvl5's on the test server (and I recommend everyone does)
