Edited by: Sindayn Itai on 28/06/2007 20:45:52 Is it now viable to use guns or any offensive structures on a small or medium PoS?
Concerned especially for small PoS, as they could easily be crippled now by a BS gang.
I understand about if someone wants a small dead it will be. I'm thinking more along the lines of pre-patch where a small could be setup to deture a BS gang.
Any thoughts?

Edited by: Meau on 28/06/2007 22:52:25 I take it you are talking about BS and smaller sized attackers only.
With current battery scan resolutions you can easily warp in, shoot a few minutes and warp out again before getting hit or even being fully targeted. Furthermore most large POS batteries will more or less only hit stationary targets(like dreads in siege).
So guns are more of an annoyance than an obstacle for a BS gang.
A small pos can be brought into reinforced by a gang of about 5 BS in less than an hour.
Best thing you can do is to make the pos an unattractive target if you are a small time owner. A few Webbers and guns are never wrong though, id say. F.e. a few autocannons to force the attacker to attack from range(will lower the dps in most cases) if he doesnt want to warp in and out all the time(also lowers effective dps) and maybe a few large artilleries to force BS to move (hits on stationary targets are quite nice).
Apart from that harden it if possible and always have some strontium in the tower.

Stick a load of hardeners and ECM on it. Frustrates people :)

large gun + stationary battleship = possible instant pop =p signature removed - please email us to find out why - Jacques([email protected])

It was true before hp boost when large artillery did up to around 20k damage on wreking hit. After hp boost however 20 .. 24 k of damage is not enough anymore to pop battleship. Well perhaps if it has no damage control and fits nanos or expanders it's still possible.

Who says you need to attack in a BS? I've attacked a POS in an Ibis: Low Budget POS Assault
The short answer is "yes", the POS will be vulnerable to attack. Thanks to Revelations II, enemies can now send in a swarm of frigates to clear out the defensive structures outside the POS shield and then bring in larger guns to beat down the shields without risk of POS counter-attack. This allows the BSs to specialize their fittings to do damage, rather than tank the POS's defenses.
At that point, it's just a matter of patience in taking down the POS shield. Most people aren't using POS shield hardenders because of their large resource usage, but that would be the easiest way to prolong shield life.

Edited by: Nimitz Alexander on 08/07/2007 05:50:36 at the moment with this change the most annoying thing a pos owner can do is spam tons of small/ medium guns that BS do bad damage too, and all have to be killed after the towers gone. Took us about 3x as long to clean up guns today as it did to kill off the tower
at least they werent still shooting/ scramming us after it was gone this time
