So, I've been reading over some old posts, and thinking. I've been playin long enough to know that someone's sec status means jack diddily. Other then -5.0 and lower. Why? Sec status was added to the game for a reason. Why is it not a valid?
I guess alts and multiple accounts are the main reasons.
Why do you get possitive status for killing npc's in 0.0, but no penalty for killing players though?
It's just a game, but a lot of it doesn't seem very logical. And don't say it's fiction. The best science fiction is based on fact and logic.

What like above 5 sec status concord will come to your aid in low sec? Currently high sec status only shows your not a pirate, but also gives you a buffer to lose it before going to -5.

High sec status does NOT mean you are not a pirate. Right now anyone that lives in 0.0 stands around 5.0 (if they rat at all). I just think it would make more sense to have your security status give an indication of your actual in game conduct.

The problem is that computers are objective and "in game conduct" is subjective. If I live in 0.0 (I do) and go ratting, I don't think it should impact my sec rating. I don't think ratting should impact security at all, tbh. And shooting somebody in 0.0... is that "bad" or "good." if I test somebody's tank for them, am I a bad person? if I Shoot somebody who comes into our home system or our constellation, am I bad? If we're a pirate organization, I'm "good" for defending my organization as a loyal person but I'm "bad' for helping pirates. Then there's the whole "are pirates bad' thing. I'm a carebear and I still heart my pirate friends because without pies blowing people to kingdom come, people wouldn't need to buy the ships I build. And Pirates make the best system defenders to boot.
Soooo... doesn't fit fiction but really, a sec status as it is now doesn't fit at all. ------ Pain is weakness leaving the body.

I lobby to remove security status from players entirely.
All it does is keep people out of high security systems. Oh wait, it forces them to purchase second accounts. Guess it won't be removed any time soon =P ---

Very good points, and yeah I thought of some of them. It's kind of a complex problem, with no perfect solution. It could be better then it is though.
I totally agree ratting shouldn't change your sec status much if at all. As for testing and stuff with friends, add a "duel" or "mutual consent" button. In empire the rules are pretty cut and dry, the sec loss just needs to be stiffer for most actions. Just loosing a suicide ship ain't enough.
In 0.0 all the rules change of course. Maybe sovereignty over systems or constellations should play in.

doesn't even force a second account, m8.
Each account allows for 3 characters. My account has a "main," a market zombie, and a hauling zombie. If my corp is war-decced, I just don't run missions. that's the only change it makes. ------ Pain is weakness leaving the body.

Hows this for a semi-solution:
Ratting no longer will raise your security status. You lose security status by attacking concord or players. You gain security status by killing players with negative security status who is not in your corp/alliance (otherwise there would be abuse by pirates to gain it back by popping each other frigates constantly).

Well, although the idea of putting murderers up against each other (to the death) in order to regain positive image in the eye of the public, is appealing, I don't think it would be a good method of recovering security status unless you recieved the +..inverse is the word no? Like someone at -1.0 gets killed, they give the "good person" +1.0 sec bonus.
Looks like it's time to get an alt down to -10 sec status to raise up my friends sec status!
No I still think removing security status would make things much more fun overall. Lots more stuff would be exploding. Especially in 0.5+. Not to mention we'd probably get a ton more good fights all over the game as people wouldn't fear doing more pew pew vs pilots etc. I think it would be more fun. =\ ---
