Hello,
I have a CMI8738/C3DX PCI audio card because my onboard sound has a lot of echoing in Ventrilo. Anyway, there's a lot of audio noise and popping in EVE. I don't get this problem in any other program that uses audio, including MMOGs.
Drivers are updated, Windows XP is updated, directX is 9.0c.

I'm having this same issue, except I have an Audigy 2 card. I'm using good headphones, so I can hear these pops very clearly. They seem to happen when sounds stop/start playing, one noticeable and easy to reproduce one is when the tractor beam sound loops.
This really detracts from the atmosphere of Eve. :-(

Same issue here but using an Audigy 1. Was fine before revelations II deployment. Almost sounds like an old 78 on a wind up gramaphone.
(before anyone asks, I'm not that old)

Yep, it was fine before hand.
To add more info, I was just doing a lvl3 mission involving blood raiders, and whatever sound is played when their missiles hit my ship has a TON of that popping noise. It seems to occur at the end of the sound file playing.

Same prob here, I got a SB live 5.1 Digital. With me it even causes crashes, like BSODs, reboots etc, from time to time.
Only way to fix this atm is turinging of sound all together.

Using SB Audigy 2 ZS and half the time my sound doesnt even play. I might as well turn audio off for what good it is.
Of course the music works fine 
When oh when will it get fixed. The world wonders
If I had an Alt I would probably post with it... |
