If it is simple proxy for Eve based on your private machine, you'll have access to all game related data of your users. Including Eve passwords and login names.

just phoned tiscali and it seems that it's all BT's fault. When i suggested that possibly it was actually their fault because every other frickin isp that hasn't got anything to do with tisacli seems to be doing just fine, the woman got a little agittated and put her manager on. Seems that they really couldn't care less and i simply have to only use eve at non-peak times.
MAC code is on the way. Looks like i'm moving

Not able to sign on at all, it's "Checking status" all the time with or without "freedom" open, i ticked the box as suggested, and also tried to sign on any number times regardless of status.
After a while it's "status unknown" and i have tried many times with out without freedon open.
I never get past "authenticating" before it locks or kicks me off.
Cheers.

Although blaming BT sounds like a cop-out it is very possible.
If you aren't an LLU customer then your connection is over BT cable, through a BT DSLAM at your exchange, over the BT backhaul to Tiscali.
Even if you are an LLU customer several of the LLU operators are still using BT's backhaul because it means they don't have to lay cables and they know that BT's backhaul is very, very good.
As for her calling a manager it was probably self-defense. Faced with an arrogant know-it-all customer that doesn't have the maturity to remain calm and polite probably left her little recourse.
FIWI I'd be more inclined to blame Tiscali than BT but I only have enough information to know that it's possible - not enough to dispute it. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Fact is that he rents his service from Tiscali direct, which means they are responsible for dealing with BT Wholesale on the link even through BT kit (you cannot call BT Wholesale direct for example). In this case, regardless of whether the blame lies at BT's end or Tiscali's end, they should be the ones to sort it. Accepting there is a problem and then doing nothing about it is worthy of giving them the finger imo...
Back on topic, I'm surprised at so many people signing up to a VPN that they have no knowledge who is controlling it or has access to it, as it would constitute a major security risk in my view...

You're lucky by the sounds of things, it's been a nightmare for many others.
I still have 10 days left on my trial, i love the game so far, but it's impossible to play before 12 Midnight.
Now i9 can't get past "Acquiring bulk data".

Realy weird...
Was having trouble with this earlier, saying that it was checking the status for hours, despite every other game (which in reality means Warcraft 3, and WoW) working as well as was to be expected... I assumed I'd*****ed up the wireless settings ( changed authentication methods on the router ) and assumed it was somehow effecting the EVE connection.
Anyway, I decided to give this a go and installed the VPN software first, then the Your-freedom software stuff after. Just as it finished got the dreaded BSOD. God knows what happened but after restarting, EVE seems to be working normally.
Moral of the story...?

Problem is like this: before patch eve was running properly in both PCs and with both accounts, after patch I am stuck on server status unknow and not even eveonline webpage is not opening. I pay monthly fee for eve, monthly fee to internet provider, so why should I pay aditionall $$$$$ to what you are saying to donwload to make eve to run? CCP should fix that. Now I ave access to eve from workplace which have a different internet provider.

CCP always say 'It's nothing to do with us, it's your ISP' and while technically correct there is something they can do. They might investigate using the same technique as MSN and have the primary port as 26000 and a backup port of 80.
Dunno how viable that would be.

k well, at first i was jus getting stuck on Aqcuring Bulk Data bewteen 6pm n midnight, but jus now i tried to relog cus my ship got stuck. Then i couldnt get past character selection and it keep cutting me saying that the connection was lost. Tiscali ahve said to me that enginers r trying to fix the prob but they need the ISP and port number of EVE. CCP have got me doing a ping test to c where the problem is, from that it seems that it is Tiscali cus i get packet loss through them. But unusally, i got kicked at 4pm =(

Should I be contacting my ISP (Comcast, USA)? I've been getting "Status: Unknown" since about an hour before maintenance on July 5th....
I am going insane. I have never been so ticked off at a game in my life... seeing that I am ready to just cancel now and never worry about getting this ticked again.
CCP, anyone, please help.
I've tried the Freedom suggestion and the HTTP Tunnel, niether worked. :(

Well, I went ahead and called up Comcast anyway. Told them just about everything I have learned here and how this is seemingly only affecting Tiscali ISP users and others in Europe.
I am the only one I have seen so far having Comcast and in the USA to have this problem, or are there others?
Anyway, the first lady I talked to didn't even want me to give her the server's IP address to trace it, then I lost connection to her. Called back, went through the whole story again with a new rep. and asked him to trace the IP of the Server after he told me that "if I can browse web pages that I should be able to connect" -- I told him my first two hops are coming back as timing out - so he askd for the IP Address and traced it and said "Oh wow that's slow, 144ms" and started reading off the addresses and got to "London" and said "London oh no wonder it's slow" (LOL) - anyway, he said he cannot determine the problem that he has to now forward this off to the Administration to get it looked at in the network...
Soooo... here's hoping it is in Comcasts's realm of fixing... if not, PLEASE CCP - fix this and AT LEAST inform us publicly that your people are looking into these problems. PLEASE! I love EVE, it's so darn fun, I am hating the thought of not being able to play.

Ok this is strange. I just remembered our 2nd PC got a new graphics card a little while back. So I installed EVE on it and what do ya know, "Status: OK" 20,777 players!
I was able to start training my skill on the 2nd PC. So.. now why would this only be affecting MY PC - even after I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, formatted my PC and reinstalled it again?

Going through what is different between PCs - the one it works on has ZoneAlarm, my PC has Nortons Internet Security 2007.
I went ahead and uninstalled NIS and tried to connect and connected perfectly! So this is a Nortons problem?
Even if I just disable nortons, I still cannot connect. However, if I uninstall it comepletely (with the norton removal tool) - I can connect. So Nortons is blocking it for some reason.
This doesn't make sense, for I have been playing EVE with Nortons 2007 since June 25th, last month. Then all of a sudden, it's blocking it? Something in the last patch flagging it bad?
I cannot even see a Log for it blocking anything that would have to do with eve.
I am stumped. - Removing nortons now, I guess I'll use zonealarm for now.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful info in this thread, hopefully my details here on Nortons 2007 may be of use to others who are affected like this like me but are not one of the affected ISPs

Ok this thread is starting to get filled with some rather silly ideas.... There are many reasons as to why you may not be able to connect to eve. Go figure them out. This thread is almost entirely populated with those who have problems with Tiscali's service.
No offense to anyone else, but I dont think anyone here wants to hear about how you supposedly fixed it by doing this or that, when in actuality, you dont run thru this isp's systems, or you do and yr not paying attention to the time of day or you had a completely different problem to everyone else here in the first place.
Nothing any of us tiscali uses can do is ever gonna help us. Except getting tiscali to recognise the problem and fix it or leave tiscali. This isnt some random problem, it 4pm til 12am every single day. Like clockwork! Now get a clue and go post your other problems elsewhere.
And if you think this reaction is a little hostile, them I'm sorry but you just stumbled apon a thread full of some very ****ed off people!
