Evening all.
Just posting to request anyone with a BT homehub, or broadband option 3 from their site, if they can advise me as to any pitfalls or problems I may encounter.
I've played eve on a modem for ages, but now with the Tiscali arse-up I'm forced to change, and BT look reasonable, but I read that the HomeHub is a router, and instantly I got the ph33r, as many do in Eve, over routers.
I just wanted a heads up as to if it works alright before I signed up.
Cheers for any advice.

You shouldn't encounter any problems really, the setup will be basically straightforward and painless and the router is configurable in terms of access and security.
If you really don't like it you could just get a different Modem.

Ahh, you have the little phone thingy too, well in that case you'll be wanting to keep the Homehub but I still wouldn't worry, it should work fine and if you find that it's blocking ports you need or something it's easy to work with.
The calls over net thingy is a service very much like Skype, your account and line have to be..umm.. "something" enabled but i'm 100% sure that yours will be if it's a package. As to it's Usage.. I havn't a clue, sorry.

No problems, many thanks to both of you. Current connection status is dire indeed.
Many thanks again, time to go crawling back to BT :)

I work for BT and support the Home Hub, you shouldn't have any problem with it with eve, but be prepared for a crap speed and generally a rubbish service.....I mean.....It's great, it never goes wrong :

so true :), the connection is fine but the BT homehub is a godaweful router, had 3 die on me and they weren't very good to start with. get a seperate router made by someone like netgear. having said that i had no trouble with the homehub and eve and it was easy to set up (word of warning use the windows wireless software, don't even bother installing the BT rubbish :D, windows already has all the software needed and it runs faster/better)

I second that, they don't care about your knowledge, they only will employ you if you can talk nicely to a customer. Luckily I've recently finished my Computing and Networking degree so I'm not a complete noob.
The training they gave was next to useless. On training I just sat listening to calls and shaking my head at the stupidity of the other support guys.
/me needs a new job.
Also BT voyager wireless config sucks balls use Windows Zero config instead.

+1 on the terrible BT service
i just moved away from BT because of the lack of support.. for 8 weeks my connection was CONSTANTLY dropping.. mostly during prime time hours and after several phone calls and having the support people ARGUE with me i decided enough was enough and just canceled and switched
i had BT broadband for about 3 years and in the last year or so the service seemed to get much worse and i was close to switching several times but this incident just pushed me over the edge

Edited by: Glassback on 01/07/2007 08:15:11 I'm using one now and it's fine.
Also customer service has been very good. I know all you are supposed to do is flame on these forums, but all the issues I've had have been resolved with no issues.

Oh, and IBTM.
If Eve was just a game, it would have a pause button.

Had the Homehub for ages now and no problems. The minimum speed i get is about 7.1 Meg.
It handles Eve very well, and as for support, I have noothing but praise for the people i have ever needed to talk to ragards this service.

We have a Homehub in my house. Pretty good speed, but it hangs typically twice a day and needs to be switched off > on. Not a 'big' problem, but if you're in an important engagement, I imagine it would chaff a bit. Our version's about 12 months old, so maybe a new one is more stable.

Ohh boy this brings back a bad memory.
OK I did the same thing. The day it switched over my old Belkin router would not work with the new BT line, customer support was useless, the home hub management interface was too dummed down for my liking but I eventually got the hang of it and found out where all the important things I needed to switch off were, and finally another computer in our house has been without wireless internet ever since as I cannot seem to get it talking with the router, even with a new wireless usb fob.
If you encounter none of these issues then you have done better than I. ------

Eh? I've never heard that before. I've been playing through a router since I first started in 2004. There's no reason why Eve should have any more problems with routers than any other internet application. It's possible that some crappy routers have issues but most won't. Those that do can probably be configured appropriately or better yet returned to the place they were bought from for a refund. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

I got 9.5Mb from a competitor (Be) but I never had any problems with my Nildram (over BT network) service. In fact in all the years I've used BT for various services I've never had any reason to complain. They seem competent, friendly and on the couple of faults I had they paid compensation and fixed them quickly.

The BT home hub is a terrible router, I have replaced quite a few, when customers get done being jerked around by BT. I also have several dead home hubs at home as well. Go out and buy a decent router.
