Can anyone give me an insight into how often they come along? I am assuming they are given every so many (?) agent missions but is there an exact number? Also, if I do lvl3 and lvl4 missions simultaneously how does this factor in with the equation? Do I get Important lvl3 and lvl4 missions once the relative number of agent missions have been done with respect to both levels?

Every 16 lv4 standard you get a storyline one, every 16 lv3 you get a lv3 storyline, etc. missions you complete with a gang (and split the LPs/reward/etc) don't add up to the 16 count.

On a side note, anyone knows how to tell storyline mission levels?

usually by the rewards offered. Many are coded by the lvl of the implant you will get ^^

You could keep track of how many missions you run and after the 16th mission you will get a storline of the appropriate level.
You could wait a few minutes after finishing a mission to get the evemail with the storyline offer.
You can also tell sometimes by the reward given or the mission name itself. (Such as the Shipyard mission being only level 4.)

Doh, is that true? Of course it would be unfair if every mission completed in a gang would everyone add another successful completed mission on his way to an important missi. But doesn't it even give you a partial count increase? When you always make missions in gangs, none of the participants would ever get an important mission again? Is that true?

They count if you're the mission owner, not if you're a helper.

There are a number of ways you can tell... First, you receive an eve-mail from the storyline agent, second, the agent you interactive with for the mission does not have a level or quality value, rather they are referred to as 'storyline', and third, the missions are described as "Storyline - Encounter" or "Storyline - Courier" in your journal .

Yep I know all that, problem was IÆve been doing some faction grinding. So since I was getting all available missions I of course lost track of numbers... so I had no idea if IÆm getting a storyline from lvl 2 or lvl 3. But got it more or less answered above, as in reward value...

Oops, sorry, reading ftw! I thought you'd asked "On a side note, anyone knows how to tell storyline missions?", rather than what you'd actually written. I'll stop telling people how to suck eggs now

on my courier mission-grinder alt i kept a log of missions per agent. among 4 lvl 2 agents from 2 different NPC corps, all in same system, whenever the sum of total missions run adds up to 16, i get a storyline. i am pretty sure it groups them by agent faction and level, and possibly solar system. i will do a few missions outside of my regular system and see if it has an effect...
on a side note, it appears that doing enough missions for R&D agents also can get you a storyline mission.
also, the storyline agents seem to be located near the agents where you did the 16 missions, possibly by constellation. i would imagine the contributions for the 16 missions are also by constellation.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
Storyline comes in after 14 !!! Mission's. It doesent matter for what corp, what LV or what agent, not even the region or the constallation. Only thing that matters that they have been done for the same main faction without any interruption of another main faction.
Storyline missions get passed out once you get the 15th mission ( without accepting it ) and lead you to the nearest Storyline agent of your current location.
So to say if you happen to do LV 4 for caldari navy and then move to your LV 1 Lai dai agent to do the daily research trash ( counts as mission ) you might end up with a LV 1 storyline agent in sobaseki.
Also when you share your mission's they still get counted to the overall sum as long as youre the mission owner.
Hope that helps,
@Arrs Grazznic: np, i knew you miss read me :p
@Alora Venoda: well... dunno, as per my knowleadge (which might me bulloks) you need 16 mission in a row for a given faction of a given level. You can mix mission types and even locations. The only thing is that the 16th mission will determine the storyline agents location by proximity... and also SLs are not influenced by mission types... as in even if you do 16 kills you might get a courierre and vice-versa...
by the way, anyone know what happens if you do 32 missions? do you get 2 SLs? or you have to turn in one storyline to get the seccond? (i know it doesn't make to much sense as ppl will rush to the SL but am curiouse :p )
The system does not matter -- you get a storyline mission for every completed 16 missions at the same level for the same faction. If you reject a mission, the count does not alter. It also used to be that if you failed a mission the count would not be changed, but I have not tested that since the last patch.
Originally by: Alora Venoda on a side note, it appears that doing enough missions for R&D agents also can get you a storyline mission.
Yes, R&D missions count as regular missions wrt storline missions.
No. You get a storline mission for every 16 missions you complete at the same level for the same faction. Like Alora Venoda above, I keep a record of completed missions on a per level basis and a storyline mission is offered without fail after the 16 completed missions.
Originally by: Althea Nar'agh by the way, anyone know what happens if you do 32 missions? do you get 2 SLs? or you have to turn in one storyline to get the seccond?
Yes, you will have a second storyline offered, but this one will be from a differet agent. In fact, you can have many SL missions lined up. You can stack up as many storline missions per faction (bit not by level) as there are Storyline agents for that faction.
