Ok i'm a noob but this didn't seem right brfore i petition to CCP somebody please tell me if this is possible:
I'm in a safe spot after taking down a pirate who's aggro had dissapeared by the time i found him. i stupidly engaged him at the gate but followed him to a planet to finish him and did. What happened next caused me to raise my brow and my anger a little. So I saw I got aggro with Concord for my foolishness, i warp out to a safe spot to wait it out and heal my shields when out of nowhere 2 players warp RIGHT TO ME! I think WTF? they scramble me and i get spaced. How is this possible? Are there skills that will allow this with a scanner? Someone please tell me that I wasn't the vitim of foul play. |

Most likely they used probes on you to home into your location. So yes, there are skills to use devices that can sniff out people on safespots.

Scan Probes found you while you sat in one spot repairing and waiting out timers.
Not an exploit if I am reading your post correctly.

Scan probes, with top skilled player and top skill character, and bloody fast and accurate nowadays.
You just got probed out.
Newer just lay still while repairing after combat, and do keep your directional scanner 360 at large ranger with settings that show scanner probes on... warp to new loc when you see few close-by.

A max skilled covops can take as little as 23 seconds to scan you down in the middle of space. Sitting in the same safespot for anything more than 1 minute is pretty much suicide.
You've got to keep moving and making new spots all the time. AND DONT LOG UNTILL YOUR AGRO TIMER IS GONE! sry caps I know but it's important :)

ok so it was probes, good i'll be sure to look out for that next time. Thanks for the Info as the player wouldn't tell me how he found me after I convo'ed him. Makes me wonder why, if it's already a well known thing and obviously a skill tree. Oh well at least he let me get my wreckage back.
Thanks all! |

Just so you know, safe spots are not infalable and can only offer you a few minutes of breath time, depending on whos doing the scanning. Ideally you want to be moving to a new location every couple of minutes until your timer runs out and then make a break for the star gate or station.

Probes cannot (for now) find you when cloaked.... so safe spotting and cloaking is fine for waiting out timers.... of course you can't run the repairs while cloaked....

Just an alternative for you: If you don't want to bother warping from SS to SS all the time at the very, very least keep moving!! Point yourself towards a second safespot (always, always have at least two) and fly towards it. You can run your reppers and whatnot as you wish. It makes you more difficult to catch. When they appear on your overview immediately warp to your other safespot, and as long as you've aligned you should enter warp before they fully exit warp themselves. After that you'll know they've got a prober and will have to continue from SS to SS until you can get out of the system.
They can, in theory, still nail you so it is safer to continuously warp from SS to SS. However, I personally don't like doing this since if they don't have a prober then it's a waste of time. It also could end up giving them locations on all of your safespots, making them even less safe as next time they won't even need to use the prober.
If you are moving towards your next SS in space, then you'll see them with plenty of time to hit warp. In order for them to catch you they'll have to expose their CovOps ship in order to bump you out of alignment, or manage to position the CovOps such that they warp in directly into your path and knock you off-course before you can enter warp yourselves. Neither one is all that easy, and they'll have to rely on fast-locking you in order to really catch you. This ain't an easy task since they'll appear on the overview several seconds before they can even start to lock you. --- Wherever you go, there you are.

One thing that *might* make it impossible to scan you down is to fly a very fast ship. SS, point in a random direction and crank up the MWD.
It'll be hard to grab you if you're able to always be 400+km away from the spot they scanned you down to by the time they get there...
But a cloak is far simpler and easier.

yup, fast ships are fun, i was in a bit of a scuffle in my interceptor and just went to a safe spot, hit the mwd, and laid back...was pretty awesome, every now and then id get the scanner showing something at the ss that i warped originall to, except it was 100-400 km away now

One thing you can do is watch out for probes. If you bring up the directional scanner, set it for max range and 360 degree scan, then toggle off the "Overview Settings" in the upper left hand corner, it shows everything within about 20 AU or so of your current position, including probes.
That's more of an advanced-level technique though, the best way as a young player is to just keep moving - does you little good to know if there's a probe in the water if you're just going to sit still.

Edited by: Lusciniae on 03/07/2007 15:25:19 Ok, so basically the only way to remain safe is to constantly move around, and reset your SS each time you go to a sys that you've been chased in. The word for the day is: MOVEYOUREVERLOVINGF***INGA**C***SU**ERBEFOREWEGETSPACED!! That about covers it right? Thanks for everyone's help. Imperatori Crux
