You try coding a webpage for use on mobile devices. Then get back to me with "what's wrong with that".
Developing with Web Standards pretty much takes care of that. Just as long as the browser on your handheld device realizes it's a handheld device (otherwise it's not a web standard browser). I haven't seen the iPhone yet so I can't really compliment on how it's implimented.
I agree with you. However, Mobile Standards are currently in development. Having read through the stuff they're suggesting, I wouldn't hold my breath on CCP taking the time to conform. ---------------

There shouldn't be any problems with well coded sites. The iphone doesnt run a mobile browser but a fully functional browser just like IE or Safari. The iPhone doesn't run on a silly mobile OS either but instead on something that can be compared to the OS on a personal computer. I won't buy an iPhone but to call it crap is to be completely ignorant. An iPhone gives you an iPod video, an almost flawless web browser that beats anything on the market, all the functions of a handheld PC and an email client that beats its competition by miles. The price is great for a gadget like that while the only real problem is the cost to sign up for AT&T,s service.
I work with one of Sweden,s finest electronics stores Pause and keep up to date with new electronics and there isn't any phone out there that comes close to Apples iPhone. It's also at the top of the handheld pc market aswell and to call it crap without knowing almost anything about it is just ignorant.
I am not a apple fanboy. I don't own a mac but I work with them and I have tested the iPhone thourougly. I rarley post but this topic just had to much silly comments. ------------------- A four year old Minmatar hunting pirates and collecting bounties. ------------------- |

silly perhaps but the OP attitude didnt help with his "whine whine fix it for me iphone whine whine"
further more all this resentment falls from the fact that most people hate fads and frankly the iphone is currently a fad (as was the ipod when it came out... and the rio... and the sony MD etc). we'll have to wait and see if that gimmick becomes an evolution.
but whatever, not relevant to GD and should've been in OOP (more reason for apple bashing and OP flaming).
so yea... silly comments on a silly topic is my view.

I think Glenn Beck's iPhone commercial sums up that thing the best.

Safari is the browser it runs, and that browser is about as compatible with real-world web pages as mozilla from about 4 years ago was. That is to say, the 2% of the internet that actually follows the HTML 1.1 standard and don't use extensions, flash, or java will work just fine. The other 98% will look horrible or simply fail to render.

The iPhone is a slick little device with the motion sensor from a console game controller and a very cleverly coded GUI. It bundles many of the best features of every other cell phone out there, except 3G network support, but it doesn't add anything revolutionary. In short, it's the World-of-Warcraft of cell phones. Great UI, amazing polish, nothing new.
Add to that the fact that it costs two to three times as much as a reasonable cell phone. Further, because it uses a very large, fully exposed, touch screen, it will be very easy to damage. To each his own, but I'd rather get 80% of the functionality in a nice clamshell that fits in my pocket and will survive being tossed around or dropped a few times, for less than half the price.
But hey, I don't own an iBrick, so maybe I'm wrong... give me $600 and I'll write a review of one. *grin*

and no. didnt wait on line.-boo hoo!

I could spend all day pointing out what is wrong with your post, but I'll sum it up for you:
intelligance =/= intelligence
Try again please.
Also, don't play the "English is a second language" card. If you really are smart, you would care enough to at least put that trash through a spell check.
I hope your iPhone can tie shoes, because I suspect you have problems doing it.

You should really consider taking your own advice. Perhaps you should read the first post of yours that I quoted again. I didn't start anything, I was just returning the favor.

80%? The only thing an iphone has going for it over any other phone is the big touch screen. You can just stick a huge memory stick in any other phone and you've got something that does exactly the same job, for 10% of the price. That, and you're likely to get a better browser, better camera, better external app. compatibility, better network coverage, a cheaper (better) contract, 3g functionality + browsing speeds and a battery that isn't likely to die after a year.
Why are people buying these things again?
(and to make this slightly on topic..)
The iphone doesnt support java or flash or any real extensions, so dont ever expect real support for it from any website.

Edited by: Max Kentarii on 03/07/2007 13:13:06 The OP has one valid point even though he transmitted his opinion in a bad way. The HTML of the EVE-Online site isn't quite up-2-date with today's standards.
But to ask CCP to optimize for a mobile device... you're better off using the API and create your own down-scaled character sheet.

Edited by: Akrinos LuCont on 03/07/2007 17:09:28 ty for the positive feedback guys...
in-eve.net site actually works fine- as i update my skills regularly-at leat i can browse their site with no problem!
ty
p.s. my asking for a better backend on this site wasnt intended for my pda alone- i was talking in general for all kinds of media usage.
some people actually understood this-others didnt and got moronic
CCP is currently working on an pda friendly ap. so im look foward to that they are usually slow but when they release something- its always worth the wait.
