Originally by: Druadan One of my friends has no use of his hands, so he cannot manipulate a mouse - he interacts with his computer via voice commands. Because of this, he cannot drag the screen about to look for a stargate or other celestial object to double-click in space next to, and that means that he literally cannot come on fleet ops with us because he will just get left behind on the gangwarps. Making the approach button clickable, and/or adding an ''align to'' option to the right-click menu that appears when you right-click on an align-to broadcast from the FC, would add a new level of playability for my buddy.
Yes, I am said Buddy and to be perfectly honest, a command, of any sorts, like this would make fleet operations much, much more enjoyable. Hopefully, CCP, in their infinite and awe-inspiring wisdom, will see to this someday, so that, hopefully, more players like me will be able to actually smile when their FC says, "Align to gate."

try to make that double clicking on a system with lots of ships/lag/desynchs. I dont think that it would give that much trouble removing the "switch" that makes far away objects de-activate the aproach button.
Make the aproach button work on far away objects or make a new button for allign to .... [sarcasm]with a new skill book that makes the align to more acurate or not :) [/sarcasm]

We are NOT asking for FC AFK mode, we are not asking for buttons to do everything for us, just this one simple change that will make fleet ops, and pretty much any concerted gang movement alot easier. Nothing so powerful as a FC command that makes all ships align, nothing like that, just as simple as enabling distant objects to be approchable. The ability is there, they just need to set the approach range to infinite (or really farkin large) and there you have it. -=^=-

It is not always that simple.
2 things to consider right off:
Finding said align point in space (not always easy, especially when the target is near/behind the sun) is not always simple.
LAG (need i say more?)

At the moment the attention your fleet pilots pay, and them knowing wtf they're doing and where they are actually flying and what their route is determines how well a fleet works.
I dont see ANY reason to remove that. It takes 2 clicks to align somewhere right now, if you warp somewhere by mistake, well tough ****, its a mistake, learn and get better at it.
If this is introduced, what stops the next guy whining about getting a button so the whole fleet locks the primary the FC calls, maybe with a broadcast? It just goes down that way to less activity needed by pilots, which is simply not necessary, nor "more fun or enjoyable".

Exactly! Its not always easy and said stargates etc can be hard to find! It means you need to pay attention and configure your Overview correct, hax remove it and make it a nobrainer!??!

It's not really difficult, but it's a real pain. Kind of like getting the same mission 6 times in a row or getting stuck at the station exit because you pressed warp too early. ------ --Don't get saucy with me Bernaise!-- |

Rightmouse/add stargate to overview, single click the gate on overview, then look around for the selected/highlighted box.
That even works with bookmarks as well for those with safespots, if you have your system bookmarks in a folder you can have the folder appear as a window which you can now have instant access too, and and above, single clicking an entry will show/highlight it on screen so you can pre-align.

To those saying it will reduce lag due to less clicking...
do you honestly think you'll click the aligne button only once? if anything it will be multiple times to make sure it take effect.

Would be nice to have a jump gang feature aswell so all ships within 20k of the gate taxi in and jump automatically. Sig removed as it lacks EVE-related content. Mail [email protected] if you have questions. -Hango

Would be nice if people would get a clue and stop acting like would be some sort of massive change, or remove skill from playing, or is one step towards Gang Jump, Gang Lock, or Gang Open Fire.
This is nothing to do with FC's gang commands and does not bring us anywhere near the FC controlling every aspect of the gang's movement directly. This is about an Align To command on an individual's overview, or right-click menu for a celestial object. This does not remove any element of skill to the game. If you count finding a gate icon in space as one of your greatest EVE pvp skills then I suggest you go out and actually learn some pvp skills.
This is a small change that removes an amount of tedium from the game, and opens up some playability for those in circumstances where manipulating the camera is a near impossibility.

Out of idle curiosity...
Has it even been said why Approach _doesn't_ work outside a certain distance away and deactivates for the 'warp to'?
Considering I can fit ships to fire at things further away than I can actually 'Approach' them (more than 150km) this always struck me as odd? Wondered if there was a reason given.

Yea verily! This is something that would, logically, be a part of a ship's standard navigational interface. Considering how often it's used, the current approach is just downright clumsy, especially if there's a large object such as, say, a planet directly in the way.
