...what can I say - when I started playing the game called Eve, I was impressed by the relative (relative) maturity of the players, as compared to the maturity of other MMO players.
These days, however, all I seem to see is "neener neener nyoo" posts on the forums. Shame on you all. Hands up all of you who are in the first player corp you ever joined....Hands up all of you who have never ended up killing people you used to gang with.....its really just a game people.....I just get bewildered by the throbbing antagonism that seems to be so rife on these forums. (fora?).
Anyway, as you were, maybe it prevents you all going out and becoming serial killers - if so - well, that's a good thing. Just try not to take this whole thing too seriously - life is much too short.

I was stunned and shocked when I went to flip on the light switch, and I had been walking around with socks on over carpet during an electrical storm. My finger hurt for 2 days!!
And BoBs lack of humor when trying to be funny naming stations. Who the heck dreampt up that name in 9-9. " The 99 words for things GOons cant do " or something like that? Shockingly unfunny.

For the record: 1) Never shot at someone i used to fly with (baring thieves and the like) 2) Am in second ever player corp but still keep in touch with old one and will forever be fond of them... left on good terms because I didn't like living in the south and missed the north when they moved out of it (best move for the corp wasn't best move for me ect...).
But how does this show my maturity?
A mature individual can still have situation where they have to whats best for them to keep the game fun even if it means leaving old friends, its a game and if its more fun for a player to do X why shouldn't they?
Should they screw their new friend for their old friends?
Can you really say that if a player you'd used to fly with was on the other side of a fleet fight you would possible screw your side by refusing to shoot at them if your FC called them primary?
Have your never talked to red and realized they were a fun guy and that you'd prob really like to fly with them and then still had fun beating the **** out of them?
Its just happenstance who your m8's are and if they leave or you leave why shouldn't you shoot each other if global politics dictate you must (this isn't to say i'd ever just go out hunting my x-corpmates that'd just be a **** move)... I imagine most of my old corp would sit down and talk about the fight and setups with me if that where to happen no hard feelings and what not.
Oh and really its a game... I'd shoot my own mother if she was part of an alliance red to mine and we'd laugh about it later cause its all for fun and no real harm is done. ------- Even my barge has kills... |

there can never be enough targets. Friends or ex-corp mates are those that you can count on for a good fight, you dont smack them you say GF afterwards (and you call your mate primary :P).
Not shooting your ex corpmates friends nephew because you like them doesnt really float my boat ---

...and that's precisely my point....you realise that the person you are shooting at is a perfectly decent human being, who, under different circumstances you would be flying alongside....what alarms me is the entrenched values I see sometimes on CAOD - where a tag is enough to condemn someone or make their opinion invalid.
I just think that sometimes people take their alliance ticker too seriously - and start calling up all sorts of xenophobic rubbish to justify their stance.
Anyway - I've posted much too much tonight - so these will be my last two words on the subject - rancid underpants

What is the deal with Eve players thinking they are better than other MMO players? They somehow think they're smarter, more mature and more successful. It's obnoxious. You're playing a game. S**t-talk is part of gaming. If you can't handle an in game rivalry with s**t-talk then get off the internet because you're an oversensitive crybaby.

well there was a time when enemies actually had a discussion on the forums and posts of more then 1 line in reply were in common. In this time some ppl roleplayed actual "pilots" with certain special habits like jade, j0sephine, Xirtam and weirda and even Molle as the evil dictator. Nowadays you only get "fofofo" spam and silly oneliners and the boards contain no real information anymore.
A few exceptions made (actually BE and Shin Ra are top notch) uve no real characters left anymore. The discussions of nez perez, digi and the likes, albeit sometimes filled with bitter hatred, but nevertheless well educated and witty get drowned in altspam, idiotposts and simple spam. Combined with an attitude of "we dont care about the game, the lore, the atmosphere. We are only in for giggles and a dramabombs to stroke our epeens". Even the holiest of all rules "never damage the company whos game u play" is broken regularly and smearcampaigns and threadnoughts dictate the "new eve".
The maturity has severly decreased -in general- tho i can say certain parties had their hands in it more then others. For those who dont care it will prolly be water in the mills, but i miss the "more serious" eve. In which reputation, ehonor and playing good or bad (nevertheless playing a character) had a meaning above "hahahah fofofofo new ship hahahhaha".
But as ive seen in the FLA thread and in hardins threads. There is still atleast a modest core of ppl who play and see the game in the same way and enjoy the same values. Characters like Ginger Magician, Stavros, Zap, Ragnar, Jade and even Xirtam can never be replaced by some youngsters enjoying "lawless internet" and acting like jackasses. Atleast in my opinion about this wonderfull game. Hence ure right Coad changed, not for the better in my view of things.
P.S. im not saying in the days of old there wasnt spam, or that there wasnt argueing. But the Coad had more temper, more emotions and more atmosphere.

Shocked and stunned this happened since most of the digic and nez essays were about making portions of the community look inept and stupid and little just because they weren't in the old boys club. Absolutely stunning that caod should change with the times, shocking even!

Quiet wrong, there was never an "old boys club" to start with. If you read closer youll also find that i wrote "and the likes" which includes quiet a group of other posters too. The majority of them not sharing any political ties or views, hence its silly to argue they all followed the same stream of thought or tried to get a singular message across. Just read the recent GS thread. Half of the replies dont span more then 2 lines. Hell, half of them arent even ontopic (hence snipped) or aimed at the content of the post they quote but just smackphrases. Thats not a discussion thats dropping some trash. As for my other points. both Digi and Nez (among many other posters) had a sense of their character and somekind of "ehonor". You wouldnt find them lying or japping and if they got called out and had to admit defeat they apologized or stayed quiet for a few days. Even Lunas Feelgood when he started his alt campaign got caught and took a low profile. Nowadays ppl act like jackasses and dont give a damn because its all "hahaha internet". Which ruined the original more rp oriented atmosphere. An Atmosphere where it meant something to build empires and where "serious" meetings were held and agreements were sealed where honor was on the line. Nowadays ? "hahaha serious internet lulz".
With regards to the attitude, as show in the GS thread, back in the days ppl would actually feel sorry if a corptheft occured. Regardless of the affiliation. Sometimes enemies would even offer some deal or let someone off the hook. Search and read posts about the HDY corptheft or KIA thefts. Nowadays ? "owned n00b, lulz fofofo". Same applies to corps and alliances. Missconduct was actually punished because the name of the whole group was on the line. Nowadays ? "they are iskfarmers, so what?" "he scammed you? lol owned" "he is a corpthief, and we invited him you noob!".
Attitude which has nothing to do with COAD posts but clearly shines through even on the forums.

I've changed corp alot of times but that doesn't mean I've done what you describe. The OP and you make it sound like just because you shoot old friends you are backstabbing them. I've killed and have been killed by old corpmates and it's been a laugh because afterwards you can chat with the pilot because there is a mutual respect since you have flown with the pilot before.
The OP shouldn't write "are you in your first corp..." instead he should write "have you backstabbed you friends".

Dont confuse the forum comunity with the actual game comunity. Unlike many other online games EVE has a very large number of mature players. I would say the average age of the EVE player is much higher than most other MMRPGs. The forums will always attract alot of idiots and ****heads the type no one would listen to in real life so they post here instead. Its a shame that nearly every serious thread gets spoilt by people with brains the size of pond life invisible to the human eye. Fact is the vast majority of mature EVE players avoid the message baords alltogether

So ure advocating that its normal for a bigger playerbase to decrease in quality ? Hence in process ruining the unique atmosphere of a spaceship mmporg (the r is actually for roleplaying)? Sorry i got the impression that as of late alot of ppl singed up who simply have no interest in meeting ppl and playing the game with all facets but would rather stick in their own community and bend the game towards their polarisation. We had threadnoughts to nerf titans, we have threadnoughts on every bigger or smaller achievement and we have open letters whenever someone feels there might be an illdoing. Not just inside the community but also to newspapers and news sites. Check why SHC is so popular and why i.e. the criminal forum is popular or some other external forums compared to COAD. In general ppl are told to behave and those who just troll will usally be met with the banstick, regardless of their corp or alliance. An approach i wholeheartly applaude. In all those forums obvious alts, especially those who dont roleplay in the slightest get terminated after a very short period of time. This is no discussion about moderation tho, the evemods do an awesome job considering the crap they get bathed in every day. Just open the forums at any morning during a regular week. 5+ locked threads, dozends of deleted posts and snipped posts and tons of warnings and bans behind the scences. Just in 1 section of the forum. Just because ppl cant be mature and think the ability to connect to the internet also gives permission to act completely out of line and ********.
In the past the community (the village as you called it) acted upon that and elements were sanctioned from their own kind aswell (internal forumbans, members kicked etc) these regulations seem to have gone overboard and now its just a ffa of idiocy and 1-liner replies of far too obvious alts. Band of devs in Band of devs corp ? The name alone deserves a ban in my personal opinion.

I find myself agreeing with you. The ppl are still out there but they are not as vocal as the lesser kind and their posts get drowned like you said. I stopped posting here for the very same reason and the thread on the frontpage of this section show exactly why it is usually a good choice. I personally think its sad if the "political discussion" area of the a rich game like eve which offers so much drama and politics degenerates to such levels. A statement which has nothing to do with "sides", "alliances" or a group one favours.

I'm a 2003 player and been in my fair share of corps. Some I've shot at, some I've not. Depends on the type of corp. STK for example think higher of me when I don't pew them even when red and just say hello. Euphoria Released on the other hand would be insulted if I didn't go hell for leather after them if I saw them in local.
Moving corps doesn't dictate whether you're a backstabber/traitor etc, it's your actions that decide that. As for the old-school thing, I agree with that Goon who said that the old school have mostly left and it's a new eve order on these forums now. I can't say I like this new order much but then I didn't like the old one either.
I just think that people who feel the need to post utter crap all the time don't deserve any respect. Respect for me comes from those who bring it in game, not here.

You should have been here for Ragnar the Magic Hat, Annue, The "bagdad bob" Reclaimer, Duke Digglar( OC guy), and a few other Drama Queens who would write stuff just to get a rise out of people. The level of lying was epic. I think in the last year the tard brigade has invade the forums to some extent and crying has become a new artform.

...what can I say - when I started playing the game called Eve, I was impressed by the relative (relative) maturity of the players, as compared to the maturity of other MMO players.
COAD isn't frequented by much rationality but then again Thomas Aquinas doesn't play Eve either

well there was a time when enemies actually had a discussion on the forums and posts of more then 1 line in reply were in common.
