The current methods of preventing a target from warping away are ok. I can live with what we have. I was just thinking about NOS tweaks and ideas, and it brought warp core scrams to mind.
Personally I'd like to see some sort of scram built into every ship, or at least every combat ship. It wouldn't have to be perfect. Maybe it has a % chance to fail, or a shorter range, or somthin. Lets face it though, pvp combat does not happen without one. Some of the ships out there are completely un-pvp worthy because of it.
I'd also like to see some longer range warp jammers. I think they'd have to be impossible to fit on a ship with a MWD. Make them fail sometimes if need be. Throw some randomness into the mix. Or give them a resolution stat to compare to the targets sig radius. Or track poorly at close range. Something, anything. I'd like to see ranged pvp combat at least possible outside of sniper BS's popping haulers at gates.
What about a larger difference in warp core strength and jammers strenth? Could go along with the sig radius/jammer res idea. Larger ships get warp cores that are harder to warp jam, but can also fit stronger jammers that don't work as well on smaller targets.
I'd also like a "you are warp scrammed" idoit light on the HUD somewhere.
That's all I can think of atm. I'd like any and all ideas anyone cares to post. I just wanna get people thinkin about it.

I suggested a 75/90km scrambler, got flamed... Pretty hard to break gallente l33t ganking lobby.

I think the OP has a couple of interesting ideas, especially with the chance of random failures of the warp scrammers.

Might be nice to have a hislot long range scram that scrams for 20 seconds, and then takes 40 seconds to recover, something for caldari+snipers

They were originally going to do it racially and chance based (Like ECM), but it turned out SO horrible and impossible to find unconsentual PVP that they scrapped it all together.
Chance based scrams are a completely different thing from ECM. Eventually all the petitions would be about gankbears whining their scrams never work and targetbears whining scrams never fail on them. All you'd ever find in local is people whining the guy got lucky too, and that's it. The less chance based the better. Scrams, webs, hardeners, etc. were also made "classless" intentionally, so a frigate CAN lock down a BS.
Ranged PVP is possible, but you'll want somebody else to get closer in a tackler/dictor/recon to balance your own safety due to your range. -----

Range is soo big advantage that it must have drawback, and it is no scrambling. ---

Are you serious? Long range weapons have a lot of disadvantages: more fitting needs, more cap needs, lower tracking, lower dps...

And makes you u immune to any other ship that isnt very fast or is not sniper. Also on sniping range u got awesome tracking, + long range ammo require less cap. Get some facts before posting ---

Long range WEAPONS do use more cap then close range. While ammo with range penalties does use more cap then ammo ammo with range bonuses, it also does a lot more damage. Standard, non range modified ammo uses the least cap.
At range you don't get better tracking. Your weapons tracking rate doesn't need to be as high. Long range weapons have **** poor tracking, making them only useable at long range, or on nearly immoble targets.
Balances are already built in. The reason no one uses long range in pvp is because the target will always warp away.
You should check your facts before posting.

Edited by: Benn Helmsman on 11/08/2007 02:23:58 T2 long range ammo need the same cap as standart -50% range ammo (like spike/antimatter). So if you use them, you need more cap.

Proof one Proof 2 Bigger cap amount of t2 ammo is one of drawbacks of theyr bonuses, same with tracking penalty. And balance is here ? So if everyone will start fighting at 180km game will be balanced in your opinion ? It won't, newbie players won't be able to pvp, hell pvp w/o bs with t2 guns won't be possible ergo gap between ships will be even bigger so ppl will just be forced to use battleships, there won't rly be point in flying something else if u can snipe and scram. ---

Aren't there lots of roaming sniper fleets already ? With that change , they wouldn't even need inties to tackle targets...
If you want long range scrams , use a gallente recon.

Little skill intensive for lots of people. It's also 100%, so balanced I suppose. I was proposing a long range scram that is mostly falloff range (10km opt 90 km falloff?). Maybe throw in some tracking so it's not useful up close. Point is, it wouldn't be 100%, but would still give a chance for long range pvp. Battleships still have a long ass lock time.
Personally I think every combat ship should have a 20km scram built in. If you don't have a scram in pvp, you've already lost.

Put a 20km scrambler on every ship, and every encounter ends up with a toasted ship. Even the pirates amongst us are going to want to be able to disengage from a fight early now and then.
I'm all for scramblers having a chance to fail, or of the scrambled ship having a chance for the computers to momentarily "get a clear signal" or something and be able to run for it. Obviously, with 5 scramblers on a target, that guy isn't likely to go anywhere anytime soon. Don't "break" scramblers, but it shouldn't be an absolute lockdown either. _______________________________

Acutally, whilst I don't want to see the current 1 & 2 pt scramblers go, there's a certain amount to be said for something less reliable, but longer range.
Something like a 60km 'warp disruptor' that had a 33% of doing 1 point for 10s. (numbers picked arbitrarily).
Fit a few of them (and use up valuable mids) and you can maybe tackle something for a 'few' volleys, but you'll not actually pin anything down.
Either that, or a 'projected' interdictor bubble. (Missile form perhaps?) which dosen't last very long at all, sort of 10s maybe, but during that time you have an area affect 'no warp' effect.

Edited by: Sehinei on 14/08/2007 01:45:56 i always thought you should have warp disropter missiles (ie when the missile hits you cant warp for 5 seconds) and defenders as your counter messer insted of points and stabs but people called me crasy
