My Comp-> os: XP Home Proces.: Amd Athlon XP 1700 1.47 GHz Ram: 512 MB vid card: nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8x driver: 43.03 snd card: SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio
right away the first problem i noticed (when the eve disclaimer came up) are these wierd graphics in the eve background (the 3d part) which seem to 'shoot out' from the center out, i'll try 2 get a screenie. another problem, which i have expierenced with other games (cs, bf1942, tribes 2, neocron, and eve). The game would freeze entirely for a good 10 to 15 seconds, yet any audio that started before the freeze (music, sound effects, etc.) would continue to play and finish up, but no new ones would start. But in neocron, would i would disable openGL and put it into Direct3D, the problem would disappear. and also, after afew times it freezes, it would stay frozen and eventually my comp would reboot then when my comp would come bak up i get one of those standard windows "uh oh something happened!!" errors and it said that the geforce4 ti 4200 was 2 blame
any help you guys can give to help me get ride of these problems would be great, thanks

alrite, i was sure that i got afew screen shots of the first graphics problem i mentioned, but they dont show up on the screenshots (ya know that short frame freeze kinda effect ya get after pressing the prnt scrn button? i was sure i got it because i could see the glitch/graphics problem during that pause but it would not show up when i would paste the screen shot into paint)

Hi Phaux
You might want to try using the newer drivers from Nvidia 53.03.
I have seen the freezing and sound repeating problem before, it is usually an interupt problem. You should try and keep the PCI slot next to the AGP card free (they share the same resources)
Also try and disable the onboard audio and test with that and see if it clears things up. If it does you might want to consider a PCI soundcard instead.
Just try one step at a time and see which one is actually causing the problem
Hope this helps

Edited by: phaux on 23/01/2004 21:57:05 ok, the freezing problem is fixed, for some reason switching the drivers (for the hundreth time) fixed it, im now running the 45.XX driver. but my main issue now are these wierd graphics problems. they seem to shoot out of what ever object is in the center of my focus (the eve spinning logo, or the things floating in the background during char selection, or my ship during game play) and these things which shoot out of what ever im focused on seem to keep the textures, or at least some sort of color scheme, of what they are shooting out of. as in the colors of my ship during the game, or a blue color when they shoot from the spinning eve logo, or a blue color from the background during char selection.
any help you guys could give me would be great, thanks

Edited by: phaux on 24/01/2004 02:35:35 i managed to get a screenie of one
You can see one go from behind the ibis to the bottom right corner. They apear only for a moment but they apear constantly. they come in different shapes and sizes, that one is a particularly thin one. and they always orientate(sp?) around the center focus and retain their color.
*edit* got another pic of the glitch at the eve login

I have the same video card and problems. Spent two days doing research/ trial and error till it finally worked.
most likely fixes were A: installing the latest nvidia driver and B: reinstalling directX (actually I don't know if I had 9.0a or 9.0b already). This has solved a lot of problems hardly crash at all (no more crashing as I target enemies!) and haven't seen the odd line graphics error since either.
Thanks for the tip about not using the pci slot next the the video card. I'll have to try that out. Hopefully things will remain somewhat stable now.

Phaux have you tried moving your graphics card to another slot as was suggested. I know I'm going to try that now.. Freelancer's Guild is recruiting, please convo or mail me in-game. |

Seems to be some confusion over my suggestion about moving cards.
Most modern systems will have an AGP slot for graphics cards, you can't move that..... My suggestion was to keep the first PCI slot free (the one nearest the AGP slot)

I had my one of my networkcards in the pci slot next to the agp slot but i switched the network card with the 56k modem so now its vid card, 56k, ethernet, ethernet. so the pci slot next to the agp is pretty free (how much resources does a 59k modem that has never been used use?)

Well to start with it will use the same interupt as the graphics card. much better to just take it out completely if its never used. This will allow the graphics card to have exclusive use of that interupt.
You will be able to see what shares what when your machine boots up, during post you will see a listing of the devices in your PC, if you hit "break" at that point you will have time to peruse the listing.

I had this for a while with other games. The fan on my Ti4400 had died and the card was overheating. Check your fan. Another good way to test if it's heat is to run your comp with the side off and blow in a household fan. Keeps it ultra-cool

i have the same problem with the graffic werid problem
i have tried reinstalling my g-force4 TI 4200 and got the latest drivers installed and reinstalling both eve and patch... (downloaded from different places)
i tried to reset bios/cmos and cleaning the fan on both video card and CPU cooler.... with no effect... the fan is spinning on both video and CPU... its so hot that i cant touch it thou... (video card)
but i tried to replace the videocard to gforce2 mx 400 and it was the same....
it would seem that there is no solution left to try for me... i really dont know what to do.. i filled out a pettition 6 times using "other"! so that i would get a reply from CCP but never did...

This is really doing my heah in. I've been trying to fix this for days and I'm sure its something to do with direct x 9b but I have tried reinstalling it twice and its still isnt working. The reason I think its direct x 9 is that it only happens on my games that require it.

i got the Ti4200 as well, i dont have any graphical anomalies (anymore at least), all the newest drivers&updates for everything.
my prob used to be that whenever i ran Eve & Skype (P2P voice-chat) the comp would freeze at random; sitting in station, warping, just flying, anytime. sometimes after 2 minutes, sometimes 2 hours.
i stopped using Skype (after trying different version, now no Skype versions work at all!) and the problem went away, until the last patch. now it happens all over again, but now it happens even without any kind of voice-chat going...
havent tried reinstalling DirectX though, 'cause none of my other games freeze my 'puter... wondering if i should format&reinstall everything, but thats kinda admitting defeat

okay somebody must have a solution for this... i was told that it could be that the g-force4 ti 4200 could overheat because of the new patch and that would damage the videocard like we have seen.. so everybody please switch to another videocard and see if that helps....
i can¦t say for sure if thats the reason and the solution we all need.. buts its worth a try
