I've haven't read everything in this thread, but here are a few more reasons for the drop: Loot and agents rewards.
I get ship bps for free, and even some frigates for free. I could sell them for 1 isk each and even make a profit. But I try to sell at the same price as the lowest price 2-3 jumps from me, just not to fsck up the market more. What we need is cost for living. Like now it's only rental fees that makes us have to work a bit. But what if a daily cost for food has to be paid for? Docking fees? Everything that makes the loot-scavengers think twice before selling.
Or how about fining those who sell things too cheap?

The manufacturers market has been all but destroyed by Castor, actually.
Agents now hand out blueprints, ammo, equipment and even some ships. AND they no longer ask the mission runner to supply them with ANYTHING.
Pre-castor I used to turn 300k / night manufacturing small and medium ammo, now I turn about 300k / fortnight. |

Well, some missions require a bit from the market, and the R&D does always need something from the market.
I'd like more npc needs. Like a local gang war makes the police need more ammo, 125mm's railguns etc. Not just in agent missions. But on the market in general.

Quote: Mr Ward,
I suggest you rethink basing prices on a rolling 3-week average. I buy 100% of my minerals & I turn over my inventory much faster than that. a week to 1.5 weeks tops. Perhaps you've already made considerations for this regarding megacyte, as it's rolling 3 week avg would be around 14-15k, & it's currently available at under 12k.
The other thing that may or may not be a source of concern is how you get the data to determine the avg prices of minerals. Using mexallon for an example: One can sell it over the trade channel @ 14 per if one has a large volume & is willing to spam the channell long enough, however one can turn around & buy large quantities of mexallon through buy orders at the 11-12 price range, utilizing buy orders.
tralala
Yes i reviewed right after my post tbh, and roll on aweek but use live mean figures all the time.
I list purchases on the s/sheet in qty for each value paid....
its a busy looking sheet but it works for me ;) and with it being live on the manufacture/profit sheet , then if i have to buy something over base price then this will show immediately on the profit sheet...
hmm - dont think i explained that very well but heh.

Drop your price some more and buy over all his items, so you can refine them till he's out. Continue this 1 or 2 months and sell the minerals back to him or in his solar system so you make profit.
After a few months you might even earned yourself a tech2 cruiser bp from the profit. :P __________________________

Yep, this works wonders.
Keep MATCHING his price until he dips below cost value, then buy his ENTIRE stock and put it on sale at YOUR price. When he makes more and starts undercutting you again, repeat the process.
Eventually they get the idea, and they MATCH your price. At which point, leave it alone - you're sharing the market :)

Just did a bit research, and I found out that it's a great market for the trader now... One example:
Shield Recharger 1. Not the most popular module. But heck, it can turn a profit! They are sold in lonetrek for less than 2000 isk pr unit. And I checked the recycle price for them. At a perfect recycle, you get approx 4300 isk worth in minerals from it... now that's a bargain :)

I'm also against the gobalisation of the market, different items fetch different prices in different regions, gal ships for example fetch more in gal space then elsewhere. This is a good thing rather than a bad

I think a few have already pointed it out, but it's worth reiterating: undercutting the local sellers is an established method to dominate the local market. Happens everywhere. My local pharmacy sold everything at a loss until his competitors were either out of business or ready to cut a deal with him. They made him an offer to get out, he took it. He came out richer, they went back to business as usual. Of course, they couldn't do what many are suggesting here, which is to simply buy his undervalued items and resell them at your prices.
And re: global market. I think this isn't too far off from what the internet did to local businesses around the world. Suddenly, people can see prices everywhere, and local markets have to either adapt or die. The difference here is that there's no established UPS or FedEx to get the item to you if the best price is 74 jumps away. Location is just as important as price. Some people are willing to brave 0.0 space and 24 jumps to save 2000isk. Most are not. |

hehe
Some people get it, some people do not.
The market IS just another form of PvP and some are better at it than others.
I used to search the markets for items that would yield lots of minerals vs their price. Every so often I got lucky and pulled up something like over a thousand basic mining drones and refined them for profit.
Some people simply do not understand that you shouldnt be selling things on the market if you are selling below combined mineral cost. Why? If you sold the minerals outright, you would get more profit.
