I went to a party last night and was drinking heavily, fun fun fun. At that party I met a group of guys, we got talking and turns out they play other MMOs aswell.
The games listed: -
- EVE (Me and my fiance)
- Guild Wars
- World Warcraft
- Legend of Mir
- Project 69 (Freeware laggy piece of crap)
- Counter Strike
We got talking and well I found a trend. We all loved our MMO but thought the others were crap. A guy had the cheek to say ôHow the hell can any one like EVE its just premiership manager with spaceships.ö. At that point I slapped him. Well I didnÆt slap him but I thought about doing it lol.
Any one else had any situations, and I HOPE your defend EVEàwith you lifeà

I got a couple a colleagues at work that play WoW, everytime someone mentions how great WoW is i tell them it's a game for pussies and then explain to them why consensual pvp only is boring and why it makes eve more exciting even if u don't like ship to ship pvp all that much.
I usually show them one of the eve trailers which mostly shuts them up mhahahahahaa 
Oh and yes, i tried WoW, and i found out after a day or 2 that it was not for me, after running back to my corpse for the Xth time without losing any equipment or anything and having zero interaction with others deinstalled it and never looked back.
This however does not mean that i'm not looking at the developments on other mmog's but sofar there hasn't been much to get my interest flowing.
CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!!

The only MMOG a lot of my friends know about is WoW, and they hate it with a passion (partly because it has stolen friends away from them with weekend raids etc). Can't disagree there, but their conclusion is that all mmogs are the same. Ergo, they hate Eve. I can see the "WoW look" flare up in their eyes whenever I mention Eve, and I'm having a hard time explaining the difference between the games in terms they can or want to understand.
To me it's mostly a lost cause making them understand, but still I do my best to defend Eve when they make nasty comments about online gaming. It's ofc no help that my protectiveness of Eve is interpreted as the fanboyism they despise...

Its perfectly natural that different people like different things in games. I dont really "defend" Eve, I just try to tell people why I think its so great. What I want them to do is listen to it, and then make up their own mind if its the game for them or not.
I know it sounds very rational and boring, but... :)

Well, once before wow arrived, noone undstood what a mmo was, now they do, but all think im playing with 10-13 year olds, since wow got so many kids playing. Honestly, most locals would expect the average EVE gamer to be 15 years old.
Its hard to make non-gamers understand sometime too, that, grown normal ppl can play computer games. And the most common "grown" game here, is wow. EVE is looked at as "old hat".

MMO = Initialization of 'Mass Multiplayer Online'
FPS = Initialization of 'First Person Shooter'

Im a fan boi, and since i started playign eve games like WOW and PSO seem generic. With eve theres always somthign new that you have to be trainign for or doing in order to get. With games like PSO and WOW are that they have very little to do.
"OK Im going to wak these monster for a while and get EXP and level up to do it better " lol so you hit monsters so you can level up to hit monsters better. Even then its stupid cos you get level 90 players challenging level 5s to duels...wtf thats boring cos none of the level 5s will say yes, and people of the same level wont duel cos they don't wanna die.
At least with eve theres a selection of things that you can be doing/specialised in and new players have just as much chance of poping an older char if they use wit and cunning. I popped a 1 year old char with a trial account with help from concord...
"Stole from his can, distracted him for 15 mins then at 15Mins 1 sec let him hit me....he popped and I got all the loot" and made a NICE sum of money about 20M or so for a trial thats allot....(of course I couldn't do anything with it but i was experimenting lol). It was not against the rules becuase its using game mechanics. So if a person started the game and understood the game mechanics they could do something similar and get ahead.
What other games have something as simple and fair like that.

Maybe not in the same game or area but they have hundreds of people logged in on different servers similar to WOW and other MMORPGS.

well it can be REALLY hard to defend what the F*** is going in with eve from time to time, but we try our best, and anything we can't defend... we blame on the farmers or shout NOOB or in other ways try to blame it on the other guys just whining about nothing... or is that the forum?! emm quite late here:P

Ok i accept that, I don't play CS I don't like it much, played it a couple of times but after a while i find it lame with the hackers....I'm just stating what was said at the party you forum *****s wanna flame it be my guest im asking if any one else get friends bashing eve or other online games just because they don't play it. I was also saying to defend EVE...
EDIT: since when has "w-h-o-r-e" been a swear word...?

Its pretty easy to explain the difference between EVE and other MMOs actually:
MMO "xyz" = cute little wading pond with padded safety rails.
EVE= The Ocean...no life guards.

My apartment-mate was a big WoW fan, and she also was convinced that EVE wasn't as cool as WoW for whatever reason...my counter was simple. Every time she played it I asked how her grinding was going, and if she ever said anything unpleasant about that statement I just reminded her that all of WoW is just a massive grind.

I can only defend EvE, GW, and CS.
EvE is my favorite pve game, I play it as if a tycoon. Plus im addicted. ATM.
GW is probably the best social online RPG because finding a team to pvp and pve with was SO EASY. You just stand in a hub and flag yourself as LFG, or see the other group leaders and invite yourself to their group. Plus its an awesome game will pretty awesome balanced play even though there are quite literally billions upon billions of different strategies and counters for each. GW does MMOG style pvp better than any MMOG does. 
CS, it is one of my first loves. In the beginning there was quake DM games. Then on the second day Gooseman made CS. Gooseman looked at his creation, and it was good.
CS is just a brilliantly fun game. The pvp is teamwork, stragety, character advancement, permadeath, and corpse looting all wrapped up into quick rounds. It was an instant success that became a classic, and I honestly think it is here to stay.
