Its funny, these days they are actually cheaper than Dell, Falcon NW and WidowPC.
Yeah, that's just because Dell bought them. And now Alienware is dead to me.
But yeah, don't. In reality though, I'd get the dual 256mb... Of course what I REALLY would do is get all the parts wholesale of off newegg.com and build it myself, and use a 512mb card OR if I was feeling particularly spendy dual 512mbs cards.
Someone else mentioned EVE runs primarily on the CPU because of the code, and while I have no idea if that's true, I'd find out... Might want to spend a little more on the processor if that's the case since you said you were going to play EVE 90% of the time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience our piracy may have caused you, but, we are pirates and, sadly, this is our way." |

Can games (like EVE) utilize both video cards?
Do not buy alienware. Two years ago I bought a 2,000 dollars alienware laptop. 15 months later it totally fried. I was 3 months over the 12 month warranty and they would not even speak to me on the phone to see what was wrong with it unless I paid them money (40 bucks!).
The company was recently bought out by Dell and when I first called to ask about the warranty the lady had no idea what she was talking about and was obviously in a call center in India. NOt that there is anything wrong with India, but sometimes its nice to speak with someone who is directly connected to the company, not a call center on the other side of the planet.
Therefore, DO NOT BUY ALIENWARE. They are just DELL comps now, totally crap customer service.

Unless you have a large, nay GIANT monitor resolution, the difference between SLI and non SLI will be negligible. Therefore go with the single 8800. Besides, is there really any reason to spend that much on a video card? On a related note, don't bother with an 8800 Ultra, it's the EXACT same thing as a 8800GTX, they just OC it for the $100+ extra you will spend on it. ------ It's a basic truth of the human condition that everybody lies. The only variable is about what. |

Great boutique builders (recommended by HardOCP): Maingear, Velocity Micro, and AVA-Direct (mine's from them). Check their reseller ratings, they are top notch. -JH |
