Should I get:
a 320 MB NVIDIA Geforce 8600 GTS
or
Dual 256 MB NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GTS?
Can games (like EVE) utilize both video cards? -------

Alienware = unreliable (Dell) and a ripoff.
You can get better for like 1000 dollars cheaper from companies like CyberPowerPC.

Ok, so the question at hand is, which is better:
one 320 MB Geforce 8600
or
Dual 256 MB Geforce 8800s?
Anyone ran EVE with dual video cards?

In regards to EVE, it doesnt matter... 90% of eve is processed off the CPU due to crappy code.

Wait, you sure you don't mean a 320MB 8800 and dual 256MB 8600s? I don't think there's a 320MB 8600.

No, you're right, I had my numbers mixed up.
See, im worried not enough games out there are able to utilize dual video cards.
Plus I'll be playing EVE on this thing 90% of the time

Won't the 8800 probably be faster than the dual 8600s anyways?
I would think that would be a better choice.

Well as far as i know the 8600 is about 20% slower... so two would still be faster than an 8800 -------------------------------------------- Stay away from my signature all of ya!!! IM WARNING YOU!!

My first bit of advice is dont get an alienware. Back when they first came out ailenware was the best you could get. But over the course of the years it has since become easier and more affordable to build your own. You can get a far better machien if you build it yourself for far less then an alienware. Also the alienwares make a lot of noise and costomer support is a joke.
But if you must get an alienware go with the single 8800. http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce8.html, better fill rate, higher memory interface, just personal opion there though. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Central Defiance says "check out our movie" DEFY |

Unless you have a fetish for spending a lot of money on arguably cool-lookin' cases - don't buy Alienware. This is one of those solid advices you can get on the Internets.

Then you just gotta add some 15-20% to the total price, depending on which shop or if you know someone. It will probably still be cheaper than an Alienware/Dell rig though.

The 8800GTS 320mb is the better option.
The even better option is the 8800GTS 640mb, especially if you want to run in 1600x1200+ or with decent levels of FSAA.
The winningest option is to build it yourself ;)

Yeah, Im more interested in saving myself the time and headache by buying a factory built pc. Plus a warranty against manufacturer defects is a big plus.
What Id REALLY like is a liquid cooled system. Anyone know of a good seller?

Components still have warranties :)
All my Hard disks are covered by 5 year warranties, all Intel CPUs have 3 year warranties, etc etc.
Still, the core question was 8800GTS 320 vs SLI 8600GTS.
SLI is at best, 80% or so faster than a single card of the same type as the SLI'd cards. In some apps, SLI doesnt scale very well at all and is as little as 5% faster than a single card.
SLI shines best with high end cards in maxxed resolutions (1920x1200 or 2560x1600) and high levels of effects (16x FSAA, 16x AF). However, SLI'd midrange cards are not capeable of this.
At best you are looking at about 180% of the performance of a single 8600GTS with 8600GTS SLI.
An 8800GTS 320MB will be around 250%-300% of the speed of a single 8600GTS - alot faster!
